Scrambling down off the pile of crates, Professor S calls out clearly to his porters and the others belowdecks, “Quick! Into that corner and crouch down!” Indicating an open space (down to the left from the number #12), Snively suits actions to words, then spreads his hands over his head and invokes mystic words of power. A disk of force springs into being 3 feet over their heads, hopefully capable of shielding them from the worst of the crash effects.

Faekin puts his rapier back into its sheath. As fast as he can, now just worried about his own survival, runs into his room, opens his chest, in which mostly clothes are stored,
He grabs quickly the most important papers from the his working table, for example the inventory overview and his authorization Letter , takes his spear inkbottles out of the chest and gets inside as he neatly fits in the Chest
with his small 3 feat size. The clothes and some backup parchment paper he leaves in the box to serve as cushioning.
Shae would frantically look around for an idea. Inspired by Berrus tying himself to his ballista, she pulls out her rope and loops it through the prongs of the trident lodged in the deck close by. She'd tie one end around herself and offer the other to Zip. "Unless you got a better idea?"
Zip gasps as he's jolted back to consciousness. He hands scramble about his person, first grasping the stock of his crossbow, then clutching at a myriad of pouches on his person. The sounds of battle break through his shock and bring him back to reality.
The roc's screech sends a chill down the gnome as he sees the ballons shrivel and flail. Shae can barely crack through the new terror in his mind, but Zip manages to look to her offering the rope. Seemingly unphased, he gives a simple, "Nope!" Before grabbing the line and wrapping around his chest first, then around his arms and waist.

The various passengers all make their last preparations and barely finish before the loud cacophony of cracking wood, snapping branches, ripping canvas and breaking beams occupies all. The captain had tied herself to the helm, determined to make sure the ship would drift into the treetops to blunt the fall as much as possible. With the snapping vines and sharp splinters of both the ship and the forest all around, being on the main deck and out of cover becomes quite dangerous.
After several moments of the initial impact, the groaning sound inside the cargo hold intensifies, and as the top branches of the tree give way, the ship suddenly drops another fifteen feet, before coming to an abrupt halt. The disc above them protects the Professor and his porters, but they are all thrown prone as a result of the drop.
Professor S, please give me a STR saving throw to avoid being thrown about in the cargo hold.
The drop was also too much for the strained ship, and with a sharp crack, almost like an explosion, the cracks widen and the ship breaks apart, spilling crates and barrels of goods onto the forest floor dozens of feet below. The middle part of the ship rests lodged into the tree, but starts to lean precariously and the ballista on the main deck starts to slide.
Berrus, please give me an attack roll to try to hack through the rope that ties you to the ballista (the rope has DC 10 and 6 Hit Points) , or a Sleight of hand (Intelligence) roll to try and undo the knot.
Shae and Zip, you get to roll a STR saving throw with advantage as a result of being tied to the rope, as the trident holds for now.
The back third of the ship, in which the crew compartments are, falls a further five feet before a strong branch pierces the hull and brings the falling part to rest. The front third of the ship falls a further ten feet, before coming to a rest, held up by the ripped canvas of the balloon, and dangling about 70 feet above the forest floor.
Faekin, since you're in your chest give me a roll on a d6 to determine whether the box stays in the room or not. On a 1 or a 2 it stays in the room, on a 3 or a 4 it starts to slide out, and on a 5 or a 6, it has broken open and Faekin lies on the floor of his cabin, thrown about and a bit bruised, but otherwise unharmed.
Maxine, give me a STR saving throw with disadvantage, since you're only holding onto the table with your arms and legs, to avoid being throw about in the mess hall.

For the last 5 minutes Maxine passionately envied dragonbornes. Or, in fact, any other humanoid and not with good jaws and functional tail - she needed some now as never before! Hands and legs were not enough for the good grip when ship is breaking apart all around you.

The Professor is thrown prone and then flung against the far wall as the ship lurches. Alfred loses his footing too, and tumbles along with the professor, but both Bertrand and Cliff manage to hold on. For the professor and Alfred the crates, barrels and beams are thrown around too, smacking into them and bruising them, causing 5 damage to both. Alfred knocks his head on a wooden beam and an audible snapping sound can be heard, as he breaks his neck.
Give me an Athletics (Str or Dex) check for the Professor to hold onto something to prevent being flung about some more.
Maxine, in the mess hall, manages to hold herself against the bolted table leg and hears all the cutlery on the table and the drawers on the wall slide and eventually fall towards the stern end of the ship, one drawer smashing through the windows and hurtling to the forest floor seventy feet below, scattering into hundreds of pieces upon impact. Looking down, she sees the gaping hole in the window and the forest floor staring up at her, the smashed remains of the drawer as a distant focal point.
Give me an Atheltics (Str) check to determine whether you manage to climb out of the room.
Faekin can hear the muffled sounds of equipment being thrown around in his room, of glass pots breaking and windows shattering, beams creaking and wood splintering. As the ship comes to rest, he notices that the fall had dented the hinges, and Faekin is unable to simply open the chest.
Give me a Str check with disadvantage because of your crouched position, as you try to bust your way out of the chest.

So far she managed, but she could not cling tot he table forever and it did not look like someone could or would get her out of here. Maxine tried to use table legs as an improvised staircase (she was too young to die right now!)
Faekin attempts his casting, but as he rummages through his pockets, realises that his components where left outside of the box, and the two lodestones necessary for the casting are not on his person.
Maxine tries, but all of her strength had been used to hang onto the table leg, and she doesn't manage to pull herself further up, only managing to pull herself further up so that she could rest her arms a little while she attempted to rest her arms.

Shae's eyes widen at the chaos unfolding around her as she gave Zip a good pat on the back "Good... Good." She doesn't know whether to be thrilled, or terrified. Either way, adrenaline was pumping through her veins and she needed to be on her toes. She'd scan for the rest of her comrades.
Shae, held partially by the rope, manages to hold onto the railing. As she looks behind her and down across the tilted deck, she sees the heavy ballista sliding towards the other end of the deck, with Berrus still tied to it. She also sees Falx clinging to the edge of the deck, holding onto a splintered beam with one arm, his left dangling and standing off at an odd angle from below the elbow. Looking down atop the quarterdeck, she sees the captain, still tied to the helm, hanging in the ropes. From up here, Shae is unable to determine whether she is dead or simply unconscious.

After the first failed attempt, Maxine clung to the table lag with both arms very tight. If only she had more arms! Wait a minute... She let her right hand to rested enough so fingers could move, and carefully reaches for a very special pouch, holding no less special powder (it's not so easy to get ashes from burned human hand, you know). Maxine concentrated as she was taught - a spectral hand, as if extension of her own protruded to the rope around Maxine's waist. Maxine slowly carefully moved the fingers, imitating every move. The rope was freed for the length enough to reach a hook fifteen feet above and make some climbing knots.
Looking sadly at Alfred’s cooling corpse, Professor S calls out to his remaining porters once the crates have settled somewhat, “Grab what you can carry and help me up on deck to see how the others fare. Prioritize medical supplies, food and water, and the Gazetteer.” (this is the primary research book Snively has on Chult—it has the maps and the illustrations of the more notable geographical features along with descriptions of the local flora and fauna).
Banged up pretty well himself, Professor S struggles up to what is left of the deck with help from his laden porters. Seeing how high up they are, he looks around for available rope and any mechanisms that might have survived well enough to be useful as a hoist or crane.
