"Why bother guessing? Let's just get there and we'll find out." Tangle scrapes a fleck of paint off of the handle of her beaten up crossbow as she talks. "I can tell Wonder is bored by all this uneventful walking. Aren't you, ya big dumb brute." She smiles at the bear despite her harsh words. Then she glances up at the sun and sighs heavily, followed with rolling her eyes and looking back at the wagon with resentment. "I WONDER if that wagon can move any slower." She raises her voice so they can hear her, "Hey. Men-folk. Can't you get that thing rolling any faster? My grandma Ruth could hobble faster than you're rolling that thing!" She turns back to Rosella with a conspiratorial grin, "I'm serious about that by the way. My aunt Ruth was a Belza-goth. When you've got six legs and you're ten feet tall you can move fast as hellfire." She winks at Rosella holding her lopsided grin, before rolling her eyes again and resuming her scan of the path ahead.

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer? Class.
Wonder just looks at Tangle blankly, while Rosella glares at her. "He's not dumb. And quite honestly he seems to enjoy the wilderness more than he likes it in towns. He doesn't like all the people. At least... I think that's why he doesn't like towns."
As you're travelling down the road, the sun begins to rise towards its zenith, the morning chill turning warm as you turn a bend in the road.
Rosella, directly ahead you notice two strange lumps just before the horizon and as you all get closer you realize they're bodies. As you get closer still, you all realize its two horses, dead in the middle of the road with arrows jutting out of their flanks, their bodies blocking the road ahead. The woods are drawn in close, you all notice, with steep embankments going down on either side of the raised road and dense thickets immediately after.
Rosella holds her hand up to stop everyone, drawing her bow. "Two horses down in the middle of the road. It seems odd, I'm going to go take a look," she says, asking Wonder to move back to the cart and stay there. She begins to move to the horses, scanning the road and the trees to see if there was anything or anyone hiding.
Seeing what Rosella sees, Grum steps down from the cart. "Just two horses? Be careful, it looks like an ambush - Gundren mentioned the potential for bandits. Eyes on the trees, everyone." Grum readies his bow and scans the trees on the right for archers.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Rosella approaches the two horses you all catch some movement in the treeline, a sudden shifting of green and brown that draws your attention. Rosella, you're able to make out three goblins just before four of them rush out of the tree line. Screeching and yacking menacingly.
Three of the four goblins manage to surprise all of you, while one only one manages to surprise Rosella.
Goblin A: moves up and engages with Tangle. Swinging its scimitar at her. Attack: 14 Damage: 8 Goblin B: stays where it's at and takes aim at Peran with its shortbow: Attack: 15 Damage: 4 Goblin C: stays where it's at and takes aim at Diadoto: Attack: 20 Damage: 8 Goblin D: rushes up from behind Rosella and engages with her: Attack: 24 Damage: 6
We'll be doing this via theater of the mind. If a creature is some distance away from you, unless specified, assume they are 25 feet away from you. Engaged means they are engaged in combat with you.
To save up on time, I'll be rolling initiative for everyone. Initiative will be done via blocks: if the majority of characters get higher initiative then you lot will go first in any order you wish, then the monsters in the second block. So it'll either be Players -> Monsters -> Players, etc.; or Monsters -> Players -> Monsters, etc.
Because you weren't surprised by all the goblins, you all have a free action outside of initiative to make your attacks or whatever other actions you'd like to do.
(I can never get my head around the rules for stowing/drawing weapons, but can I use my free action before initiative to stow my bow and draw my shortswords?
EDIT: That's what Rosella just did, right? She doesn't have an ability that lets her do it as a reaction? )
OOC: I'll say that drawing a weapon by itself is a free action. It's also a free action to drop a weapon. But it's a bonus action to both drop and draw a weapon, and a full action to stow a weapon away and draw a weapon out.
Tangle stumbles back as the blade slices through her skin, spraying a dark red across the ground. She looks down at the goblin, with a fierce grin, "Finally, some fun!".
OOC: given the rule above about actions, let me adjust this a bit.
She drops her crossbow, and weaves dark magic around herself, a spectral frost surrounding her body.
(cast: Armor of Agathys) Not entirely sure how this forum works yet. :-D I'm new to this, but it seemed like i had to PAY to get the spell armor of agathys...which I found weird and crazy so i put down comprehend languages as my pick, until I figured it i buy the spell, or pay the monthly fee, or someone shares something with me.....confused.
Seeing the goblins so close, Grum stows his bow and draws his shortswords. He hears Tangle's excitement about getting a piece of the action, and smirks to himself in appreciation. "She's not wrong..." he mutters as he prepares to charge into the fray.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Diodato initiative: 8 OOC: just saw the note above about initiative full post in a moment.
Diodato leaps off the wagon as an arrow hits him solidly in the side. Blood runs down his body as he tries to get out of sight. “Take cover!” Ducking behind the wagon he aims his bow and returns fire at the goblin.
Peran feels a thud in his side. Confusion hits him for a moment as to what was happening, until he realizes the source, an arrow dangling from where it had been caught in his chainmail vest. Shocked into action, he deftly ducks his torso to the side to swing the shield forward off its sling, grasping it tightly with his left hand before it clatters onto the ground. He hears Tangle's excited cry and finds a moment to let out a disappointed curse in reply.

Goblin A: Swings again at Tangle, snarling as the temperature around it suddenly drops. Attack: 19 Damage: 3 Goblin B: Seeing the arrow find its mark, but too far to know if its doing damage or not, the goblin takes another shot at Peran: Attack: 20 Damage: 7 Goblin C: Just as it knocked another arrow, Diadoto's pierced it in the neck. The goblin falls to its knees choking and gurgling before falling on its face, dead. Goblin D: Seeing its companion just killed by Diadoto, it uses its bonus action to disengage from Rosella and uses its full action and movement to get into engagement with Diadoto

As the goblin comes charging at him, Diodato drops his shortbow and draws his shortsword. As the goblin comes around the side of the wagon, he swings a heavy overhanded strike down onto the creature, screaming in pain as he does so as the arrow moves in his side.
Rosella draws her other short sword and moves to the goblin attacking Tangle. If she gets close enough to attack she takes two swipes at the goblin with both her swords.

Tangle glares at the creature before her, a dark cloud seeming to close in on him (Free action: Hex). She side steps the Goblin's clumsy but powerful strike, using her momentum to sweep her own pitted blade towards the pitiful and soon to be dead creature, a fierce grin on her lips.
Attack: 19 Damage: 10

Oh, I didn't see the "hex weapon" in the checklist under my character. No wonder it looked so bad. Adds an extra +4 to attack and +4 to damage for my previous hit. So, Attack: 17. Damage: 10.
Oops, minor mistake on my attack.

(OOC: I'm a little confused, I thought you'd said that players won initiative and that we had a free action before initiative started? But once we'd all posted our free actions, the goblins took their turns. I don't think it makes a massive difference, but did I miss something?)
Grum sees the others engage the goblins, except for the one that was shooting Peran. With a wild grin, Grum charges that goblin (Goblin B) and attacks.
OOC: There was a slight miscommunication on my part. I had assumed everyone would take their actions and free actions in one post. If y'all want to wait until another "round" to do so, feel free. Or edit your posts and add in an extra free action!
