As you go in to investigate you notice that the arrows are fletched with feathers common among goblins and their ilk. You also notice several bags lying around the horses, all of them empty, along with an empty map case. You also see there are two human-sized "drag-tracks" on the road that lead deeper into the woods onto your right where Tangle found the foot tracks.
"Must have been more of them," Rosella says, "it looks like the rider's were dragged off. Took all their stuff too. Maybe we should go after them, see if they're alive."
Peran finishes dragging the horses to the side with some help of Grum, then nods to Rosella. "I agree. We were tasked to protect these goods, however. I say we go with Tangle's plan, the men will stay to protect the wagon while you girls go have a look-see. Stay safe, though, don't engage if you're not forced to. If you find the riders still alive, just come back and we'll devise a plan from there to get them out."
He climbs up onto the wagon, keeping his shield at the ready. The wound was still hurting, but he'd live, and he knew that any attempt to keep quiet would just end in catastrophic failure on his part. Best to have the scouts tackle this problem, if it even was one.
“And if they do find trouble you just sit back here and let them deal with it?” Diodato glances sideways at Peran. “I know we haven’t known each other long, but we know there is something up there.” He gestures to the path. “What we don’t know is how many and if they know we are coming. Sure you might be scared. This might be the first injury you’ve had outside a splinter and a scraped knee. But you are no good to anyone sitting back here on the wagon by yourself.”
"Yes, but sending two in is better, less chance of being noticed. It might be better for myself to go alone," Rosella looks to Tangle. "No offense, but you'd slow me down."
Peran rolls his eyes at the jab, then shrugs at Tangle. "Guess you'll sit this one out with little scared me. What in the heavens will we do without them?"
He barks a short laugh, then hops down off the wagon again, wincing a little at the wound still stinging his side. With a grimace he waves Rosella and Diodato forward, "Well, off with you then. Stay safe." With a shake of his head and an amused grin on his face he moves to the side of the road, hunkers down and starts cleaning his flail with a bit of water from his flask and some cloth taken from the Goblin bodies.
Tangle shrugs, "None taken, cause I'll be going with you. You can scout ahead a bit if you like, but I'll be little ways behind." She lets a smile play on her lips while she stares at Rosella. "As for the boys, if they want to tag along, I think they should all come. Leaving pretty boy behind by himself is probably not much better than leaving the cart by itself. Come on, let's all go tromping together. But if we're doing that, let's hide the wagon good first."
If Rosella shared what she noticed about the horses, Tangle will inspect the map case. Could these be Dwarven saddles? Does she recognize the map case, the saddles or any of the bags from Gundren at all? It's a slight chance, but worth the check. IF that's the case, she'll change her tune. "Forget the wagon. We need to find them. Let's hide the wagon a ways down the road and into the forest, and get going after them."
"How fresh are those horses, by the way? If they're still warm, we might want to hurry and try and catch up with them. They'll be moving slowly if they're dragging bodies. I wonder if we just leave the cart here. Even if we try and hide it, our oxen will only give it away?"
Peran looks up from where he is cleaning his flail, hearing Tangle also making ready to head out. "Really?"he mumbles to himself, then turns his gaze to Grum. "You want to hike up this trail too, or am I not the only one who cares about doing what we were tasked to do? If you do, surprise me and hide this wagon with two lowing oxen out here somewhere so that nobody will notice. Especially with two dead horses and a bunch of dead goblins lying at the side of the road already. I am most certain nobody will get interested in snooping around a bit."
His good mood had soured, the pain a constant nagging in his side, and the brazen indifference and stubbornness of his fellow travelers not helping the situation. Of course, his own stubbornness was left out of this equation.
Edit OOC: The wagon is drawn by oxen, not horses. Page 2 of the OOC private thread. Got me all confused there for a moment ;)
"I could leave Wonder here with the wagon and the Oxen," Rosella offers, "he could keep them safe. You guys take an hour to hide the cart, I'll scout ahead and come back. Then we can all follow the path."
Grum thinks for a moment, obviously challenged by Peran's words. "Peran, you make a valid point. Our task is indeed to deliver the goods on the cart, and perhaps that should be our only consideration. But someone fell foul of a goblin ambush because there were only two of them, where there are five of us. Someone clearly needs help, and we may be the only people able to act before it's too late. Besides, was Gundren not travelling with a single companion? What if these two horses are their horses, and the bodies dragged away were theirs? Where do you think Gundren would prefer our priorities to lie then? But yes, you are right that we shouldn't leave the cart out in the open unprotected. I was perhaps getting a little too battlethirsty to think clearly.
"However, if we are to send a couple of people to scout along this track, what do you think the likelihood is that we won't follow it up? We know there are goblins ambushing people here, we know 2 people have been - at best - captured by them. What might our scouts possibly find along the track that they would return and suggest we ignore it? And if we're probably going to follow up on it anyway, why split ourselves up and make both halves of our party more susceptible to the ambushes that we know these goblins are employing?"
Tangle rolls her eyes. "Come on already, go stash the wagon, hobble and free the oxen, leave the bear here to watch over things, then let's get going! Rosella, it shouldn't take an hour, let's just stick together out here, we can't really leave the boys by themselves. They're afraid without us to protect them. I can tell." Tangle winks her long black eye lashes at Rosella. She strings her crossbow onto her back, and picks up her backpack off the back of the wagon, letting it hang over one shoulder and rest against her wings.

The map case holds little significance to you and the saddles... Look like ordinary saddles.
Diodato grabs his gear and makes his way toward the path in the forest. He stands at the end of it waiting for the others to be ready to head out.
