Moira doesn't know much about kobolds or actually doesn't care much. She does have a little obsession with dragons. Turning to Danfi and Alto she says in a rather serious manner: "If you are in bed as quick to act as with strategising, I pity the women you mingle with. It is a dragon. Do you really think we can sneak into his territory with that guy here in his shiny armor?" She points to Torvin without turning her head.
Switching her gaze to Hodil, she inquires: "How did the attacks look like? The marks on the houses seem to indicate a dragon, but kobolds riding on the back of such a majestically evil creature...something is fishy here. Either it is a ruse by the kobolds to intimidate your town or the dragon is highly manipulative. At least it is the first time that I hear of a dragon letting such petty monsters ride on its back."
Sitting back Kellin lets the others speak for a bit, taking in their suggestions and considering them. He is kneeling on one of the chairs, so that he can drink the wine that was brought for him as the conversation continues.
"What sorts of things have they requested up to this point?" He adds his own question as he waits for responses on the questions asked by the others.
Hodil turns to Torvin and responds with, "The last attack was maybe five days ago, they wanted weapons that time and we had not had time to gather many up, they did not take it well."
Turning to Kellin he says, "Mostly money, gold or jewelry...weapons sometimes, they aren't picky about what kind. I often wonder if they just request the weapons to assure that we are unarmed."
Hodil nods to Moira, "I thought the same thing at first, but we managed to get some info from a sage nearby and found out that kobolds revere dragons as their gods."
He reaches into his jacket pocket and takes out a small book, you can see the title "Curiosities of Dragons" on the cover along with the author name Master Philo Exeter and begins reading a passage of the book out loud, "Kobolds are also known for serving dragons and praising them as gods. A kobold tribe will present a dragon with tributes and sacrifices and whatever they think it might like; they might even see it as a great honor to be devoured by the creature. If a kobold tribe is not accepted by a dragon they might start working for it in secret. Once a tribe settles in to serve a dragon, their entire existence is to serve their god in every way."
"How big do you estimate the dragon is?" Kellin asks as he takes another sip of wine. "As big as a horse, as big as an elephant, bigger than an elephant?"
Moira glances at Kellin as though she has not understood his question and turning to Hodil replies in a friendly demeanor to his previous statement: "Well, Hodil, where can I find Master Philo Exeter? I would very much like to meet him. And might you have another copy of that book at hand that you would be willing to part with?"
"As for the kobolds, I am very surprised that they would treat their deity in that way, but nevermind. As far I understand the situation, we can either kill a big bunch of kobolds and let the townsfolk wait for the dragon to acquire new hoards of minions or... we slay the dragon, whatever size it might be, and end those shenanigans once and for all. Without their boss the kobolds might even be defeated by the town itself over time."
Moira looks up in the direction of the wooden roofbeams and concludes in a dramatic fashion: "We ought to slay the beast. We are meant to be heros afterall."
"At least I am.", she adds after her gaze returns to the round at the table.
"So, if it comes down about once a week, and the last time it came down was 5 days ago, we have maybe two days to do something about it. We can either set a trap down here and wait for the dragon to come down to the town, or, we go up there and face it in its cave. But, perhaps, we should get more information on the environment up there. Is there anyone in town who is familiar with the mountain?"
After getting an answer to this question, Danfi will head outside and look back up towards the dragon cave, specifically looking at the vegetation from the base of the mountain up to the cave. He will then return back inside to rejoin the discussion.
Torvin has a few more questions: "Has it just been the Kobolds that have paid the town a visit or has the Dragon made an appearance also? Has anyone seen the Dragon? If so what color was it?"
After being judged so harshly for his agreement, Alto simply stays quiet, and listens to what the others decide. They seem to have so much more experience at this than him, and were so much more confident with their questions!
Hodil tries to keep up with the barrage of questions coming his way. Looking at Kellin, he says, "It is slightly bigger than a large horse without the wings out of course."
Turning to Moira, he pulls the book back out of his pocket and hands it to her, "Be my guest, it's more about kobolds than dragons, but it gave us some details. Master Philo is most likely headed south down the Long Road towards Waterdeep as he is not one to stay in one place for too long."
Turning to Danfi he says, "Hmmm, the Finley lad used to run around the mountains all the time until he had an encounter with wolves, he might be able to provide some knowledge about it. He's our blacksmith's boy. Lee is the son, Isaiah is the father."
He turns to Torvin next, "It's normally just the kobolds with the dragon sitting up there on the ledge, but if we don't provide what they think is enough, they will attack us, and sometimes the dragon attacks as well. It has landed and flown overhead, breathing fire on us and the buildings both. As for the color, it is a red dragon."
Moira's eyes have this weird expression: a mixture of terror and excitement.
Calming herself, she thanks Hodil with a nod, takes the book and packs it away.
"I concur with...", she turns to Danfi and asks: "What is your name again?"
"But there is a third option: We find a suitable spot midway and ambush them there. Then we will be able to protect the town if need be and can fight on our own turf."
Looking back at Danfi, she adds with a smile: "Of course, we should get to know each other first as well before trusting each other with our lives."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kellin nods as the answers are made to the various questions. He considers what has been said about the dragon and tries to think of what he knows about such beasts.
Nature check: 21 (If the information given gives him advantage for some reason: 7)
Pretty much seeing if he can determine how old the dragon is likely to be, and what they can expect from it.
"If they are not out during daytime, we could dig some traps and prepare the ground for battle. What kind of resources can you offer us, Hodil? Are there strong fellows who would help us to build the traps? And what kind of other equipment can we have at our disposal?", Moira asks.
Alto’s head was spinning. Who knew people could ask so many questions about one thing? Looking from one person to another, he tried to keep up with the speaker in the group. To himself he thought, Adventurers sure plan a lot more than I thought. Good thing they’re all so experienced in this, or we’d be in trouble!

(OOC: Unspecified mercenary work for the town of longsaddle)

Torvin asks: "How long has it been since the last attack?"
He looks at Moira and says: "Aye, it's true I am not much for sneaking around but, 'shiny armor does have it's advantages at times."
Moira nods in approval and takes a sip of ale.

Danfi: There is not much vegetation on the mountain that you can see, just a scattering of grass and weeds here and there.
(OOC: Sorry, meant to add that in earlier.)

Pretty much seeing if he can determine how old the dragon is likely to be, and what they can expect from it.
Torvin will ask 1 more quick question: "Can you please tell me what time of day these attacks usually happen?"
Hodil nods to Torvin, "They always come after dusk, apparently the kobolds don't care much for the sunlight."
"If they are not out during daytime, we could dig some traps and prepare the ground for battle. What kind of resources can you offer us, Hodil? Are there strong fellows who would help us to build the traps? And what kind of other equipment can we have at our disposal?", Moira asks.
"I think we need more information on the terrain we are dealing with. Where is the blacksmith's place?"
(OOC) What time of day is it?
