Danfi agrees with Moira that the third option was the best strategy to use. With the offers to keep a watch, Danfi adds "I can take the first watch, but, I'll need to get up somewhat early tomorrow to scout out the mountain. But, I'm not planning on leaving first thing in the morning. I want the sun to be up a little higher to make sure the kobolds are hiding in their cave."
Assuming nothing happens that night:
The next morning, after eating breakfast, Danfi will head out to the mountain, going in the direction of the path at first. With his bow in hand, he'll try to walk 10-15 off the trail, but, if the landscape doesn't allow that he will walk on the trail. He'll try to find a spot where it might be possible to ambush the kobolds coming down the trail, and, hopefully, a spot that is not visible from the dragon's cave. In moving up the mountain side, Danfi will try to remain as stealthy as possible, and keep an eye out for any traps the kobolds may have set up for anyone heading up the mountain. stealth17perception8
On the way back to town, Danfi will also check out the route up the side of the mountain, trying to remain stealthy and keeping an eye out for traps. stealth24perception9

Looking at Kellin, Moira says: "Well, then there is two of us." She opens her hand and out of an extradimensional pocket comes out an owl. "That's Ify. If the night is dark and the moon hides behind clouds, I would like Ify to scout for fire places, camps, cave entrances and groups of kobolds in general. If the moon is out and shiny, I would have her join your familiar and post her in hiding on a tree either one thirds or two thirds of the way up the winding northern path."
Before going to sleep Moira will want to hear some stories of the deeds of her new comrades. She will not join the watch and get a good night's sleep. She tells Ify to hide in the second location, not the one where Sabastian is, and come back and wake her up if she sees 4 or more kobolds wandering towards the town.
The town settles in and the night grows dark as the townsfolk turn in to get some sleep.
Around midnight your familiars see a gout of flame from the top of the mountain as the dragon comes to sit on high, looking down on the town. Not long after, you begin to see several torches coming down from mountain on the path that winds up around the north side.
"Seems like we don't have several days..." Kellin says a bit sleepily as his familiar wakes him up. He quickly moves to get the others up and ready for what is to come.
"Kill the dragon!", Moira whispers repeatedly in her sleep when Ify wakes her up. She wakes up everyone who is still asleep. Moira estimates how long it would take for the enemy to arrive in town. She puts the map of the region on the table and checks for narrow passageways in the vicinity where the mountain path crosses with the main road. She suggests to turn part of the path into difficult terrain, dump some barrels of flammable substance on the ground and light it to exterminate the bulk of the kobolds.
"From there we will probably have to improvise. Any other ideas or suggestions?", she concludes.
"I don't think we have time to set up an elaborate ambush. Maybe Torvin should accompany the mayor while the rest of us sneak out of town and try to get behind them. Torvil, you should have the mayor tell them he'll need a couple hours to get the ransom together.
Alto considers for a second then asks, “Couldn’t we just attack the kobolds one by one from a distance? That way when they get to us they’ll all be hurt or dead right?”
"I am going to send Sabastian out to see if he can get a count of the kobolds coming this way." Kellin says, doing just that. "I think it depends on how many of them there are, as to how we face them." He considers it a moment. "If there are a few, we can easily take them out, but how will that affect the dragon and the rest of them in the mountain? I wish we had a count of their total numbers..."
As Sabastian flies out and over the kobolds, he sees a total of 12 kobolds coming down the mountain at a quick pace. Some of them have spears and shields, some are wielding staves and holding torches and some of them also have staves with odd points to them and backpacks on their backs. They move in a quick and precise march that you wouldn't expect from creatures like this. You estimate they will be at the town in less than ten minutes.
"That sucks. We would be done with my plan in about two hours.", Moira says tensing up.
"In theory you are right, Alto, but in reality it is a different story. We cannot take on a dozen kobolds without some kind of advantage. I agree that we should play for time, circle around and ambush from the flanks or on their way back to their lair. Either way, the townfolks will have to risk their lives if the negotiations go south", Moira thinks aloud.
"Let's find a way to go around and position ourselves in the disguise of the night. Also, getting rid of those strangely equipped kobolds fist makes sense to me.", Moira puts the map back in her backpack, picks up her gear and is ready to depart.
She tells Ify to stay not further from her than 100 feet, find hiding in trees and nooks of houses and tell her as soon as she sees the kobolds.
(OOC: Looking at the map with each hex being 20 miles or a half days travel at normal pace, everything under three hours until the kobolds' arrival, seems to me unrealistic. But if it's 10 minutes, it's 10 minutes.)

"Can anyone create a bright enough that it might blind them? Perhaps only two of us should try to sneak out and pick them off with distance attacks, while the other three wait at the entrance to the village with the mayor to give him some protection? I can't imagine that Torvin will be all that stealthy in his armor. If we can create confusion in their ranks, we might be able to reduce their number to a low enough number to take them on. I'm going to see what I can do."
With that Danfi heads out of towards the edge of the village on a side away from where the goblins are coming from. He will stealthily try to sneak around village, and, get behind the goblins with his bow in hand. stealth18
“I don’t know about blinding them, but I could cast light as far from the village as I can get to distract them into following it. That way we can ambush them since they won’t be in the village.” Alto looks around for approval. If no one argues he’ll run away from the village as far as he can get in the time remaining and cast light on a boulder before hiding nearby with the others in an ambush.
"Can anyone of you ignite oil from afar?", Moira asks. She tells the comrade who can to come with her. Of Torvin she asks: "If I am not mistaken, your armour might give our hiding away. Does it make sense for you to fortify the defenses directly at the town entrance with the help of the townsfolk? We will surely reunite soon once the fighting begins."
She joins Alto and immediately urges for a detour to get one barrel of oil and one of the promised fellows to help carry it from Hodil, if possible. She suggests to move out of sight of the mountain peak and use cover to avoid being spotted by the dragon, if possible.
She wants to move with Alto, the comrade who can ignite from afar and the fellow townsman to the nearest at most 10 feet wide spot on the path where they will definitely not be spotted by the kobolds, so quite behind Danfi. Moira wants to mold earth and make the road an uneven, difficult to pass terrain, pour the oil from the barrel over it, let the fellow townsman hide the barrel way back and go into hiding on the right flank of the changed part of the road.
Before she goes off preparing all that, she whispers to Alto: "Please cast light between the trap and the town, but far away from the trap so that it is not illuminated. I would not want to be discovered. Hopefully, the light in the distance distracts the kobolds enough to let them walk into the fiery pit."
To the person who will ignite the oil Moira suggests to do that once the majority of the kobolds are at said part of the road.
She tells Ify to hide 75 feet ahead of her position in a tree and let her know when the kobolds arrive.
Alto raises his hand at the mention of igniting oil, throwing a small fire bolt from hand to hand. “It’s not hard to do at all!” As they prepare for the kobolds, Alto does as Moira asks, and when they’re ready, he casts light between the trap and the town. If the kobolds go into the trap, Alto will set the oil on fire with his cantrip.
"Let's give it a try, but I think we'll be fighting the dragon as well as soon as it sees that oil go up in flames." Kellin says, not liking the plan so much, but not seeing any other options.

(It's looking to be a moonlit night)
Torvin: Hodil is gone by this point, but Gentry is still around, "It varies, sometimes four or five, sometimes ten or more."
