Madik looks like she’s enjoying the company and banter immensely! She seems to be in her element in the tavern, with the food and drinks flowing.
She smiles around the group and excuses herself from the table, briefly, to approach the bar. As she moves through the crowd she speaks a prayer of guidance to herself, and seeks out Mendyl.
She amiably manages to create a wide space for herself at the centre of the bar, smiling and nodding at the patrons around her. Although short, she commands quite a presence in her heavy armour and cleric’s colours.
She waits kindly and patiently, for Mendyl to finish serving someone, then catches their eye, “Mendyl?... well met!” she booms, “Do you have rooms available for the night?... My party and I have a few errands to run but will be back this evening, late, and will need lodgings. Three rooms if you have them?”.
She takes time to deliberately readjust the cloth that’s draped over one shoulder and down her front, making sure to display the symbol of the Sovereign Host emblazoned there. “It’s just...” she leans in a little closer, “I was wondering whether we could pay you in the morning? A small favour for a Cleric. A healer. A veteran of The Last War?”. She offers him a kind smile and a small bow.
Working quickly - and loudly - Mendyl switches between a dissatisfied scowl and roaring laughter with frightening speed depending on who he's engaged with. As he eventually comes to you, his features settle into an impassive look. "Oh? A veteran of the Last War? You don't say?"
He sets down the mug he had been handling and shouts out "You hear that everyone!? We got a veteran of the Last War in here!" A few of the nearby patrons smirk and shake their heads, while Mendyl gives an exaggerated shrug. "Lass, you and everyone else in this god forsaken dump fought in the Last War. You get the same price as the rest of these mooks, 7 copper per room."
Madik looks Mendyl square in the eye, her face like thunder.... ...but she can’t keep it up very long and bursts into laughter along with some of the others at the bar. “Haaaaa! Haha!...” she’s almost crying with laughter... “...well you can’t blame a girl for trying now, can you?! Haha!...”. She cocks her head at the nearest bar patrons with a little shrug or a wink.
She snaps back to Mendyl with the air of someone who has just (not) negotiated the best deal, “Done!! Ahah, ha!“ She fishes out 3 silver and slides them across the bar “And keep the change!”. She waits for the keys and then rejoins the group.
When she’s back, she tells the group “I just got us a veeery good price on some rooms here, if we want to crash back here later. We can sort out sharing arrangements later! But is everyone up for checking out a couple of these leads first?”.
((OOC: 3sp deducted. Let me know what Madik owes for the food too))
((Strictly out of curiosity - we did not arrive just today, did we? Where did we live before?))
Ella cast a glance in the direction of the stairs leading to the rooms and nodded to Madik: "Thanks, rooms might be needed. We do not know when we are about to start. I think the Church is the closest here anyway and we can talk to the Mother, but then I am all for checking other jobs too." Madik was clearly Aunt Kalli's friend, though if not for the race, Ella would take them for the sisters - character traits were unmistakable. She did not mind - why would she? - but realization made her smile. "Shall we?"
[That's a person-to-person thing. Given your stories, most of you would have already been here for quite a while. Your initial living arrangements would be the same as the Inn, squalid, 7cp a night. Most residents just make weekly to biweekly payments, using the earnings from their salvages.
Then it seemed to be settled. Ellaly stood up, picked up her backpack and was the first one moving out of the Tavern, gracefully avoiding any collision with the more drunk clientele. "This way"she confidently turned and lead the party to the Chapel. Ella was not particularly religious and have not been in the Silver Flame Chapel before but several days is enough time to learn the layout of a bigger settlement than Salvation.
Madik gathers her things, and follows Ella out of the tavern. She falls into step alongside the elf, and steals glances at her as they walk along towards the chapel together, trying to work something out.
If she catches her looking back, she’ll give her a puzzled smile and say “You gave me a look inside, like you recognised me from somewhere. Do I know you?... ... It’s weird, when you looked at me I had a sudden feeling like I had met you! Or maybe that we were supposed to meet, or something. I can’t explain it. I don’t know what it means. But I’m glad to have you along...”.
Madik is happy to chat as they approach the Chapel. When they get there, if the door is closed she’ll knock loudly but gently with the butt of her warhammer. If it’s open, she’ll pause to whisper a brief prayer before leading everyone inside.
"Did not mean it to be ominous,"this time Ella smiled playfully, "and do not think it is you who can somehow recognize me. You just sounded exactly as Aunt Kalli. Well, I keep calling her "aunt" but do not even know her that well - last time we met I was just a little girl. But what I do remember and now know about her - you are very much alike. Forgive me if "auntie" will slip from my tongue sometimes."
As curious as Ella was, she did not rush in the church, but followed Madik - after all, what they say about Silver Flame could be true. She tried her best to fall to the background.
Madik smiles back and says “In my line of work, I get called auntie, mother, sister, and a great many more!” she chuckles. “You can call me Maddie. That’s how Kalli knows me. There aren’t that many that call me that now”.
The Chapel of the Silver Flame is the cleanest looking building in all of Salvation. Made of dressed, white stone with a gabled roof of silver painted wood shingles. The door is wide open, and you are able to enter unaccosted. Inside, several simple but well-made benches rest before a stone altar. A silver dish sits on the altar, and behind it hangs a large tapestry embroidery with an image of a silver arrow.
It is empty save for one person, a middle-aged woman dressed in silver-tinged clerical vestments. She gives a warm, welcoming smile as you enter - something that is rare in a town that trucks so much unkindness. "Welcome. My name is Mother Jahanah, keeper of the chapel. How can the Silver Flame be of service to you all today?"
Skrípi is silent as the party walks to the temple, and appears to be humming to itself. Well, humming isn't entirely accurate, more playing the violin with its vocal cords. This is one wacky guy. It looks up at Mother Jahanah's question, and steps forward.
"Salvage job.Church's relic. What are you paying?"

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
With his arm crossed over his chest, Ivello offers a short bow to the cleric."Ivello Senso. As my companion says...we were here to actually offer our services to you. A relic was stolen from the chapel?"
There was no need to repeat what already was said and corrected in more polite way, so Ella just nodded and smiled politely keeping behind her companions.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Madik slows down as she crosses the threshold into the Chapel, and allows her companions to pass inside. She pauses just inside the doorway and places her palm against the cool white stone as she looks around the room, and up into the vaulted ceiling.
She takes her time to do a slow circuit of the main hall. Her boots clinking and echoing against the floor, while she marvels at the architecture, and any paintings or tapestries.
While her friends enquire about the job, Madik is taking it all in, making sure nothing seems out of the ordinary.
The priestess takes a moment to regard the heavily cloaked figure before her, speaking in a strange mixture of voices. Hesitantly, she nods. "Yes...Our chapel was blessed with a relic called the Arrow of Truth, straight from the heart of Flamekeep itself."
"Admittedly, the Church has no monetary reward for its reclamation - though I have been given discretion to use some of the items supplied by the Church as payment. Though I doubt you have interest in candles, there are some items you would likely find useful."
Madik Compared to the rest of the town, this chapel is extraordinarily clean and tidy, which is so to be expected of the Church of the Silver Flame. No funny business going on here, and you're absolutely positive on that.
Madik eventually rejoins the group and addresses the priestess: “Mother Jahanah, your chapel is immaculately kept. You should be very proud”.
Then Madik drops to one knee and bows her head deeply. Her demeanour changing to one that is more official than the group has seen up until now. She ceremoniously lays her hammer and shield before her on the floor (her gleaming shield showing intricately engraved symbols of The Nine, and - in the middle - her holy symbol of the Sovereign Host).
And she says, “Purified Mother, we thank you for receiving us under the protection of The Flame. I am Madik Stonecast of the Hill Stonecasts; Disciple of the Temple of the Sovereign Host; apprentice Cleric; Field Healer of The Last War, and your humble servant.... May you ever hear the Voice of the Flame; have the strength to resist the Whispers in the Shadow; and the wisdom to recognise the difference”.
Madik finally lifts her head, retrieves her weapons, and stands, saying, “If we can find your lost relic, we will”. She bows and takes a step back within the group.
