The Gray Beyond is much like the rest of Salvation: dirty, rough, uncouth, and with a hint of magic in the air that could be the promise of riches, or just another vile spell wafting in from the Mournland to tear you limb fromlimb.
Scavengers like you come here often to spend your hard-earned coin on expensive drinks and cheap food, sharing wild rumors and half-truths about the ruined nation of Cyre. It's called the Mournland to some, but most call it the Gray. To all, it is a land of death and opportunity.
The tavern's common room is built around the salvage board, a place where the brokers of Salvation post bills for jobs they need doing in the Gray. This board is the beating heart of your industry, and the jobs it provides, your lifeblood.
Tonight however, you are here for a different purpose. A week ago you were complaining to an old friend of yours by the name of Kalli Alran, bemoaning the difficulties of scavenging on your own. She told you to meet her here tonight, and that she had some "people to talk to" in the meantime.
After spending some time in the tavern, your friend Kalli eventually finds you. If you are the first, the two of your are not alone for long. She moves swiftly through the crowded drinking hall, picking up four other individuals before finding everyone a nice large table to sit at. You've never seen these strangers before in your life, and you're beginning to wonder what your old friend has in store...
"Lovely, I've got you all in one spot at last. My me, scattered to the four corners you all were." A playful grin sits on the woman's face as she talks. She is brown skinned, with dark locks that fall just below her jaw line. Tonight she doesn't wear her armor - an extravagant piece of bronze coat plate mail - though she does carry her gold hilted longsword. "Now I'm sure you're all wondering, 'Oh Kalli, what stupid idea do you have for me this time?' And really, just be patient it isn't stupid this time I swear."
"The Gray Dogs are full. There's just no room for any of you to join my crew, and I kid you not, every single person at this table has bugged me about scavenging on their own. So here's my proposal. I know you all, and I can vouch to you that the others at this table are capable individuals in their own right. Try crewing up with each other for a job or two, see if it sticks. I guarantee with a team like you lot could form, you'll be pulling in quadruple what you normally do on your own."
As a server walks by, she deftly removes a mug of ale from the tray they were carrying, flipping a coin onto it in the process. "So go on and introduce yourselves - then hit up the job board, I think there's two or three low risk postings on there at the mo'. Or don't. You can always try them on your own I suppose. I mean no one lives forever, eh?" She takes a long drink from the mug, and gives you all a little curtsy bow with a smile. "Now that I've single handedly solved all of your problems, I'm off to get ready. The Dogs have info on some virgin ruins in the Gray, and you better believe we're going to be the first ones there. Ta-ta." Finishing the ale in another long draught, she drops the mug on the table, bows once more, and leaves."
After a short RP introduction, I'll move you all along. Have fun! :)
A blond half-elven girl shook her braids and looked at everyone at the table with an open friendly smile, shining in her light grey eyes too. "Aunt Kalli could at least introduce us all." (It was not really a reproach, just a notion to laugh at) "Ellaly Kelthana" (she lowered her head a little) "but call me Ella, please. Aunt Kalli is not my real aunt, but such a long family friend, I call her that and she does not mind." Ella flashed another smile and continued with more serious and a bit excited tone: "That would be my first time in the Gray. Have to admit - as tragic as it is, I am still very curious to see it all by myself. Was about to go alone even, but aunt did not have no such foolishness, as she said. Glad I can do it in a company now and a trustworthy too".
She took a sip from her mug letting others to introduce themselves - even though all were "auntie's friends", the company was quite colourful and most importantly, completely unknown to her.
As Kalli leaves, adwarven girl at the table stands up and calls after her, “Kalli!?... What the??.......”. She screws her face up, and then pulls an awkward smile that says: “R-i-i-i-ght....”.
She has shock of red hair, in a mohawk, that flops to one side and ends in thick braids that tumble down and forward over one shoulder. She’s wearing heavy chainmail (partially covered by some kind of tabard or sash), and there’s an enormous hammer resting besides her chair.
As she sits back down, Ellaly begins to speak. The dwarven girl listens kindly and then says, ”Well met Ellaly, and well said. A trip into The Grey should not be taken lightly”.
“Well I guess we all know Kalli then?! Gods, I love her to bits... but she can be a real arse sometimes!”. she looks around the group, “I’m Madik, Madik Stonecast. Kalli and me, we grew up together in Cyre. Back when Cyre was......, well, you know... How do the rest of you all know her?”.
Ivello's face is all cheekbones and angles, as one might expect for an elf. His hair and eyebrows are black, and his eyes a light brown. A hint of some kind of tattoo peaks out from the collar of his shirt onto his collarbone, but the vast majority of it is obscured. Pieces of leather are built into his outfit, with fabric sewn into it such that at first glance one might not recognize it as armor. A longsword and shield sit beneath his chair.
His eyes track Kalli as she walks from the table and eventually the tavern, unsurprised by the behavior.
With a short laugh, he offers the others a polite smile. "Should have expected as much from her."
"My name is Ivello Senso. Kalli and I spent some time together in the war. I imagine she might have kept me from dying a few times. If she says you all are competent, then I'd be glad to have you at my side in that place."
Before you sits a cloaked figure, wearing a leather hood with a white bird mask, made from boiled leather, stitched to it. Under the cloak it wears a black, long sleeved surcoat and a pair of black breeches. Its arms are covered with long leather gloves, and its legs with long leather boots, both pairs of which are, of course, black. Not a square inch of skin is showing from under this getup. Whoever this person is, they either don't want anyone seeing what they look like, or they sunburn extremely easily. On its back it has a short spear with a flamberge head, but besides that it possesses no other weapons.
Throughout Kalli's whole speech, it does not move a muscle, and you assume it didn't bat an eye either, though you can't be sure because its eyes are hidden under darkened glass lenses set into the mask. It begins to speak in an odd way, its voice changing every few words, from old, to young, to male, to female. Each string of words seems like it belongs to another person and another conversation, and this person is just taking them and using them.
"Dangerous place, that Gray.Oh yeah, I've been there before.Kalli!?long friend. spent some time together."
Maphira's face is a mixture of nervousness and relief. She has light blue eyes and crimson hair, not nearly as bright as the dwarf's. There are no weapons that you can see, and no armor hiding underneath her robes.
"I've been concerned about having to go out there alone...This should work out better I think. My name is Maphira Aldov. Kalli saved me from some nasty folk in Sharn once, so I sought her out when I first arrived here."
Hearing his own voice and words repeated back to him, Ivello regards the well-covered one among them with a quizzical look. "Impressive talent you have...What was your name though?"
Ivello would be lying if he said the perfect imitation wasn't a little off-putting and strange. But this was Salvation, strange was normal for this place. He shrugs. "It does fit rather well."
"If we're all going to be working together, we might as well find something to work on. Tonight is a bit late to start, but we can at least get an idea." From there, he'll go up to the salvage board in the tavern, then return to the table and report back any jobs that sound doable for the fledgling crew.
Walking across the dingy tavern, Ivello you find yourself in front of the 'Salvage Board.' Made from simple wood planks and leather stretched over it. You can see three handbills tacked to it with nails currently.
After carefully looking over each for a moment, you return to your party's table with the information in mind.
As Ivello gets up to check out the board, Madik is just staring at Skripi, with a silly grin on her face. Then she explodes with excitement, "Ha ha! bravo! Bravo!.... ....Do me again! Do me again!... but, how did you get the accent?! No one gets the accent!", and then after a think and a pause, "...You're a dwarf? Must be! Another dwarf? ......But you're a little lean for a dwarf, no?" she teases, looking the fellow up and down and squinting her eyes in mock-interrogation. Then she smiles and nods as if deciding something: "Well, we need to feed you up!". And she gestures to a server, for a small plate of bread and meats for the table. "If we're going to plan a job, we'll need food while we discuss!".
Ellany was not put off hearing her voice from another person (in fact, whit fast pace of the speech she barely had time to recognize it as such) but for a very brief moment her look became an assessing calculative look of an investigator, rather that the look of a naturally curious young girl overwhelmed by the wonders of the place. She did not comment, though.
She was waiting for the elf to return, curiously studying the most colourful representatives of the treasure hunters, filling the tavern.
"Chapel of the Silver Flame,"repeated Ella after Ivello, when he came back with the report. "You think it is not taken yet? Sounds so romantic... Also, very to the point - we know who, what, when and who to talk to about details. But I would not say "no" to other jobs either," she finished as always with a friendly smile.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Madik nods at Ella. She briefly mutters a prayer to herself, as if trying to recall something, before saying “I like the sound of that one too. If the reverend mother needs help, then I would feel a duty to help. I wonder if the Chapel will be open now? We could always pass by there and check. We could also check the Salvage Market too, while we’re at it. We’ll have to wait until ‘sun up’ for the other one though. But maybe we can pass by there first thing before we head out?”.
She winks at the serving-staff as the food arrives, and pays the couple of coins for the plate. She sets it nearer the middle of the table and offers everyone to tuck in. "Oh, excuse me!...", she says to the person who brought the food, "...do you have rooms here, for the night?".
(On mobile, so I can’t do voice colors D,: Instead, I’ll include dashes to show switches between different voices)
Skrípi shakes its head at Madik, then looks at the jobs.
”Not- a dwarf. Oi loike der sound o‘- one. But, per’aps- Chapel- job. This- relic. Ah do wonder if- it’s valuable. M-m-maybe w-we could- claim it fer ourselves.”

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Intent and inquisitive look returned to Ella's seemingly innocently absentmindedly curious eyes: "You would betray Aunt Kalli's trust like that and ruin her reputation? She vouched for each of us. Did not you say you were her friend? Oh,"Ella smiled again, "I understand, Skrípi, that was just random words you used, meaning was not important".
Madik sits back, chewing on a piece of food. Then she pushes her hair out of her face, and starts to laugh, “Hahaha... ... that’s a good one!” she mutters, more to herself than anyone, “You want to claim.. a relic.. of the Chapel of the Silver Flame? ...For yourself? That is a good one...”.
She looks at Skripi and leans in a little closer, “You know who they are? You know what they do, don’t you?... Whoever took the relic is probably already wishing they hadn’t!...”.
She leans a little closer still, her hair falling back over one side of her face, casting deep shadows. ”Those who follow The Flame live a constant struggle... The Silver Flame is a beacon of power and strength and light, but deep within, linger The Shadows in the Flame... they tease, and tempt, and corrupt... You don’t even feel it until it’s too late!”...
She abruptly sits back in her seat, and the hair falls back out of her face, the shadows replaced by her normal beaming smile. “Or maybe that’s all ghost stories?!... Maybe!...”. She giggles and gives Skripi a cheeky wink.
“Well, they- wudden’t know dat we’d- taken it. ‘Sorry, mother- we couldn’t- retrieve it.’ Maybe not- fer oor ferst joob. Don’t wanna- start out as- failures.”
Skrípi shrugs.
