I'm currently planning a few side quests for my party and one of them involves retrieving some items for a little kobold who wants to make his new home in the town, my plan was to have the players go out and venture for some requested items that would make him feel really at home. I was wondering if anyone had some interesting ideas for what items they could be.
Do you have any history for the kobold? Where did it used to live? Typically what comforts us in a new place is things from the past or things we're familiar with.
he's essentially been their guide up to this point. He was originally living in a cave after being abandoned by his fellow kobolds. He rescued the party when they collapsed near his cave and lead them to a town where they could be safe.
Maybe he has some kind of keepsake in the cave and something bigger and meaner has moved in while he was away.
Kobolds tend to be social creatures, so maybe you need to find a few other kindly creatures to give him a family? Part of this might be persuading the townsfolk that a pack of kobolds in town is okay.
And to go further with that, perhaps they have some kind of ritual to start a new clan and it needs some kind of emblem or sacred object like a dragon scale.

You could go kind of meta, and make them fetch a bone for decoration. Creature type depending on appropriate CR for the party.
