Deep Locathah Race Details
Unlike his cousins, Locathahs, Deep Locathas could avoid slavery by hiding inside the deepest abyssal terrains. The new territory caused some new adaptation, although they still own some Locathah characteristics.
They live most of their life alone, wandering in the shadows; as their food consists mainly of small fish and carrion that fall on the rifts. However, twice in their lifetime, they go to solid ground to find partners.
Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1
Age
Deeps Locathahs mature to adulthood by the age of 10 and live up to 60 years.
Alignment
Most deep locathah are true neutral or have some aspect of neutrality in their alignment. They tend toward evil, coming from a culture where individualism and the law of the strongest are the base rules.
Shadowborn
You have advantage in Stealth and Perception checks while in the dark.
Dark Vision
You have 300 ft of dark vision.
Bioluminescence
Parts of your body have developed bioluminescence. While the shine is not nearly enough to lighten the room, its prettiness can be used to attract prey and enemies.
As a bonus action, you can activate your Bioluminescence. Creatures who see this light must do an Intelligence saving throw or be charmed.
The saving throw is determined by 8 + Dexterity modifier + proficiency.
Furthermore, the light on the environment determines the effectiveness of the roll. In complete enlightenment, targets roll with advantage. In shady or somewhat dark, targets do a normal roll. In complete darkness, targets roll with disadvantage. Targets with dark vision roll normally in complete darkness.
You can use this ability once per short rest.
Limited Amphibiousness
You can breathe air and water, but you need to be submerged at least once every 4 hours to avoid suffocating.
Size
Deep locathah stand between 5 and 6 feet tall and average about 160 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swim speed of 30 feet.
300 is kind of nuts for darkvision. I'd bump it down to 120. Maybe you could say the range is doubled underwater?
Bioluminescence probably shouldn't default to be based on Dexterity. Maybe you could let people choose the stat upon character creation, like Genasi do.
The charm and the bioluminescence itself both need durations/ways to turn it off. I'd suggest that when you activate Bioluminescence, it lasts for 1 minute or until you turn it off as a free action. Creatures who fail their save are charmed for the duration of Bioluminescence. And then add a long or short rest limit to uses.
Practically speaking, lighting yourself up in the darkness tends to make you an easy target. Most people will picture an effect an awful lot like faerie fire and wonder if it comes with disadvantages. You may want to state the range at which you are visible or some other explanation of what others see beyond the 30 feet, because it will definitely come up at the table.
