Hi! I'm completely new to Homebrewing and I'm trying to build a Valkyrie that works similarly to the Eldritch Knight but with a paladin spell list instead of a wizard spell list. I'm merging some paladin features into the Fighter class essentially. I've figured most of it out, I just need to adjust a couple of things so that they work properly in the character builder and I've stumbled into issues that I don't know how to fix!
First one is the Oath Spells. You would gain two Oath Spells at lvl 3,5,9,13 and 17 exactly like paladins. I've added each spells individually in the spell features as well as the level at which you would gain those spells but when I open the character builder, it asks me to choose between those two spells instead of just gaining them. How do I change it from an option to a feature?
Second one is probably because of the subclass template that I chose but I don't know how to fix it. Normally, an Eldritch Knight can use the Wizard spell list and then has access to cantrips and spells. But by changing the spell list to paladin, problem ensued. Cause paladins don't have cantrips, but that's not what the character builder shows and still thinks that I can chose cantrips. How do I remove that?
Third one kinda goes hand-in-hand with my second issue. I've changed the cantrip option, to Channel Divinity. But I don't know how to give "slots" or "limited uses" to those. That part isn't that big of an issue, I would just love to have that feature easy to track.
Sorry for the delay, I would have responded sooner but you posted in the Bugs & Support forum instead of the Homebrew forum and I only just saw your post. In answer to your questions:
Add each spell individually. By adding them both together it grants a choice of spells as you’ve already discovered. Also be sure to set Counts as Known to “no” or they will take up spells known slots preventing the player from choosing spells as normal. If you need any further assistance please refer to the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ #14.* (Remember, your subclass will “know” its spells, it will not “prepare” them, so you can leave Always Prepared as blank.)
You cannot remove Cantrips from your subclass, they are hard coded into the Spellcasting feature. The best you can do is not attach any Cantrips to your subclass and then it will be an empty choice for the players. For more information please consult the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ #7.*
For instructions on adding Limited Uses, please see the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ #4.*
