First I want to apologize if this isn't the place to ask this since I've never used the forums before.
So my DM gave me a homebrew magic instrument for my Bard, and we worked together to create the effects. It's supposed give me a +2 to both my Charisma score and my Charisma maximum, in addition to a few abilities to manipulate my Inspiration. I played around adding a Charisma "bonus" of 2 and a Charisma "stacking bonus" of 2, but for some reason my 20 doesn't turn into a 22 on the character sheet. And when I manually set the +2 modifier to the score, for some reason it only shows up when I am not attuned to the item, resetting it to 20 once I hit that attunement box and vice versa. I've been making a whole bunch of homebrew items and races that have never had this issue before, so I'm wondering if it's just a glitch or if I did something wrong. I can provide screenshots if they're needed so my mistake can be pointed out.
Edit: I remade the item and kept modifiers off, and the manual score change stayed even while attuned. I would still like help though so I know how to make this type of thing again in the future, since one of the main objectives of the campaign is to collect a bunch of homebrew weapons that I'm probably going to be building.

You need a combination of two modifiers:
That one will grant a +2 modifier that is actually capable of taking the score above 20.
That one will raise the Max from 20 to 22 so that the stacking bonus can do its job.
I hope that helps.

I'll try that. I think I filled in the "ability score" section on both, so that might be my issue. Thanks!
After that, you must re-save the whole magic item to trigger the system to pick up the changes.

I realized that I had the flat Charisma bonus set to "Bonus" instead of "Stacking Bonus". I switched it, and it worked. Thanks again for the help.
