Their actions and mannerisms that you now observe seem genuine and lead you to believe that the shouting from the last encounter was probably not meant as an aggressive attack but some kind of warning.
"Yes. The Purplewraths are dangerous. Narah is shamed and hides in her hut."

"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
“Narah should not feel shamed. It was an understandable thing. The purplewrath came from a deep hole. We did not find the bottom of it. What’s down there? What other dangers are there?”

Assuming Petcan has translated the gist of it for the group, Zenodor suggests asking them if anything ever comes back out if the pit (i.e.should we go down and investigate), or if they would like us to try to find the source of the plants (some lair/seed area in the forest perhaps?). Perhaps if we offer to do a service for them, they will be grateful and peacefully share the island with the new colonists.
Through talking with them you learn they never spend a night in the forest and usually travel in groups when exploring it, which they seldom do. They don't know of anything ever coming back out of the pit and will be even more grateful if you have a way to deal with the Purplewraths.
If the other party members continue to hang back some of the natives will bring the food and gifts to them. They are smiling, friendly, and genuinely welcoming towards the party.

OOC: I would suggest that we try to track the purplerwraths to find their source/lair/seeds/whatever, and put an end to them. That'll put the colonists on a friendly footing with these natives. Then we can either explore or leave the hole in the ground, and eventually leave the island to get back towards the mainland and track down the goblin horde (and it's source/leaders/BBEG)
”I agree that we should offer to exterminate the Purplewraths if we are able to locate their lair. We need to also tell the natives we belong to a larger group looking to settle on the other end of the island,” remarks Randall.
”My magic only works for a limited time, Petcan. Please tell our new friends we are using magic to speak their language, but would appreciate lessons in their speech so we can eventually converse without such arcane aid,” he adds.
Tongues will last for a hour. This greeting and your initial questions will only take about 10 minutes. They try and teach you a few words or phrases in their language, and a few signs that might also help when you can no longer communicate via magic. Their initial energy doesn't wane and whenever you require something, like a refreshment, they cater to your wants and needs.

Zenodor asks Petcan to explain to the Natives that we would like to help them, but that we need to know where the Purplewraths originate from - at least a direction. Can they spare a guide to show us? Or show us on a map (if we lacking an actual map, he will use the minor illusion cantrip to create the appearance of a paper map, given what he knows if the island).
Also, he asks Petcan to explain with the help of a map and/or drawings where the Colonists have made their village and to explain to the natives that these are peaceful friends who wish to trade and live together on the island.
They appear to be acting of their on free will. They're just very friendly and subservient. From the 2 encounters you've had with them so far, they seem to go out of their way to avoid violence.

Do the natives appear to be under their own power? Not charmed, threatened, deceiving?

Petcan shrugs. “They say they don’t wander the island much. They probably didn’t leave those things there. I suspect a third party.”
Petcan asks islanders: “Are there other people around besides your village?”
