"Just about what I figured," Sandlot groused seeing the treasures and so forth spilled on the deck. While it had been fortunate that Sandlot limited its contents to the bare essentials, keeping the most important things to small pouches and so on tied or hooked on his belt, it stung all the same seeing his precious gift from his mentor; a Halfling priestess of Eldath that first showed him the way. Undertow, not knowing the significance of the item, though seeing the depressed look on the aged Locathah's face, pats his shoulder, before swimming over to gather up the remains of the pack.
A brief smile touches Sandlot's face as he joins the ranger, eventually sliding a few slivers into their own pouch, before the pair(plus Riptide) together set about collecting as much of the coin and jewels possible over the next few minutes. Once the work is done, Undertow again brings up the chamber, and how their might be a few more treasures to be found there. Sandlot, however, looks to the things they'd gather and shakes his head. "Others, Riptide should go to... let them know... bring them here." He requests, and before long the Octopus swims off to get Barnacle's attention and lead them back to the pair.
In the meantime, Sandlot looks about ready to settle in to wait. Yet at further insistence from Undertow that it wouldn't hurt to at least check things out, the aged Locathah relented, but would take point in heading to the Kraken's Chamber. For despite the ranger seeming pretty adamant and energetic stance about the topic at hand, Sandlot hadn't missed the fatigue beneath the veneer.
(@Lerus: You'll have to tell me how much of the below they can reasonable gather, but here's the original loot besides misc. things from Sandlot. Copper will be the 1st to be ditched, if need be)
3,000 copper pieces and another with 1,200 silver pieces. The fifth chest houses a more worthy reward: 420 gold pieces. The last chest contains gems of various colors, though no single stone is lager than one of the coins in the other chest (assorted gems worth 150gp.)

Sandlot mourns his magical bag and realizes that the party will have to share the load in case they still want to haul the treasure they found out of the coral mountain. He begins loading some of it into his regular backpack but soon asks Undertow to send Riptide to the others to let them know their help is needed. Undertow does as asked, as does the octopus. Moments later, the cleric and ranger duo take a break from collecting riches and approach the Kraken's lair. They notice that the coral barrier that once blocked their entry is no longer up.
The coral in this area is equally as beautiful as what you’ve seen in the more lively sections of this entire place. The space opens up, rising about a hundred feet up to the coral ceiling above. Bits and pieces of coral lay scattered about the floor of this chamber, apparently broken off from the surrounding walls and ceiling. In a nook in the north end of this room, there is an alcove where the dead juvenile Kraken lies. It look likes it is lying on top of some sort of mound, but figuring out what that may be will require a closer look. Finally, several more of those red globules float about near the unmoving Kraken.
(@Ori: Everyone should have regular backpacks, so the party should jointly be able to gather most of it.)
While the others watch, Gulp steps forward and pushes on the closed door begging to be opened. On the other side of it, the monk sees that the interior of this ship’s hold has been converted into a war room. Water-resistant nautical maps, crafted with the treated hide of some aquatic creature, and detailing sections of the coastline in the Sea of Fallen Stars, have been pinned on one wall. Two creatures float upright, peering intently at the maps. While both are roughly humanoid, one of these creatures is completely encrusted in barnacles. The other creature’s legs have split into shadowy tentacles. One of them holds a short, slender metal wand in one hand. They seem unmoving while floating there, in silence. At first glance, it is hard to tell weather they are dead or not.
"You think they are alive?" Gulp was just thinking out loud, not addressing anyone specifically. He did not like that suspiciously looking wand in the hand of a very suspicious creature (anything looked suspicious in this place) but for a moment hesitated to attack. "Gar is dead!" declared he finally moving towards the creature with the wand ready to dodge at the first sign of suspicious activity.
Seeing no danger in the dead Kraken, Undertow very nearly started to approach the thing for a closer look at the mound beneath it. Sandlot catches him just in time however, and after a short exchange (with plenty of grumblings about over caution vs carelessness), the pair settle down for the moment on observing the orbs floating about the body, and what they could mean for the environment. But whereas the elder Locathah tried to search for understanding in his memory banks on the orbs probable origins, the younger of the pair squinted and rubbed his chin, searching for any signs that might denote them as something living; and then by extension, he'd seek then to puzzle what type of creature they may strangely enough be.
Though regardless of outcomes for either side, he scoffs and shakes his head. "This is silly. They're probably just weird magic night lights." Undertow said grumpily while impatiently waiting for the others.
Barnacle makes sure his hunch is confirmed by comparing the gaps between puncture wounds and Wave's prongs. It is a perfect match.
Over in the next room, Gulp convinces himself that there is no danger to be cautious about and advances. Indeed, the monk finds that the floating bodies do not react to his approach. Being now a bit closer to the large maps on the wall, Gulp sees that the map has been marked in a few areas. He uses his deductive power (let's call it Gulp's passive survival skill) to surmise that, at some point while still animated, the corpses here used the metal rod to mark the map and strategize, which shows they were capable of some level of intelligence.
Barnacle joins the monk in the war-room and, being quite the battle master (and also based on backstory) notes that the markings on the map would indicate that Gar and his army of undead were planning their departure from the coral mountain (the Darkening), once enough drowned had been animated to pose a serious threat to settlements along the coastline. More specifically, these seem like detailed plans for a massive assault on key locations along the Turmish coastline.
At this point, Riptide arrives and Bubbles and Shanty understand that their help is needed elsewhere. They transmit the message to Gulp and Barnacle and the group makes their way to the northeast corner of the map.
Undertow and Sandlot can't resist getting a bit closer to the Kraken's deathbed. Under the cleric's insistence, the duo tries to cautiously examine the red globules first. Undertow shrugs and soon quits trying to understand them, but Sandlot's eyes linger a bit longer and, perhaps by Eldath's grace, he thinks he gets a little epiphany: those are sacks... filled with blood... kraken blood... for Gar's ritual.
Undertow's attention has already shifted to the mound underneath the young Kraken, and Sandlot looks in that direction too. From a much closer distance, the ranger has no trouble in identifying some treasure. Sandlot knows that it is common for sea and shore dwelling cultures to gift valuables to adult Krakens in a form of worship (passive religion.) The priestesses' journal had mentioned something about a dying parent, so these are likely remnants of the parent kraken’s possessions that the priestess were charged with gifting to the juvenile. The pieces of treasure are piled up near the back corner of this chamber, and fill and spill out of a pair of large chests that lay open so the young kraken could take stock at its whim. Some time passes as the ranger and cleric duo take stock: the combined coins include 50pp, 1,000gp, 1,200sp, and 1,800cp. There are also ten large pearls (worth 50gp each), and a pair of platinum chalices with intricately carved images of small fish swimming through a seaweed forest (worth 500gp for the set). Finally, there are also two items that call the locathah's attention due to their magical nature: one is a necklace and the other is a type of seeing glass or monocle.
At this point, the other four locathah arrive shepherded by Riptide.
Now reunited, the six locathah share among themselves the two sets of information they gathered either at the central shipwreck or at the northeast Kraken's alcove. Given the proper time for the party to digest the information, they then decide that their underwater village could benefit from all the treasure found in the coral mountain. Hence, the prioritize the bagging of all the coins they found. Putting it all together, it comes to:
4,800 copper pieces
2,400 silver pieces
1,420 gold pieces
50 platinum pieces
germs worth 150 gold pieces
Assuming the group is willing to spend a full hour collecting the coin and examining the interesting items they found, they would also conclude that they function as:
Bubbles eyes light up at the sight of all this coin and other treasure that will top off the tale that they have to tell, and he eagerly helps the troupe bag everything up, shouldering as much as he can bear to give respite to the others "Well...is it time to head home?". Bubbles expression is one of eagerness and his bright and wide eyes make it easy to tell that he is rehearsing in his mind the tale that he will spin for his mentor, and the battles that he has fought and won over the course of their quest.

While not a greedy soul by any stretch of the imagination, as his service to Umberlee had long since pushed him away from such a mindset, even Sandlot could not help but look on impressed at the stash laid out before them. Granted, some of the coin would need to be sent to the surface, least it become tarnished from being submerged for so long, if it had not. But such things aside as well, some humming and mumbling commenced before at least one aged Locathah finally addressed the others.
"Mmnarmnn... Still the matter of another, we should see to...." Sandlot eventually replied to Bubbles. Yet soon he let out a raspy chuckle and floated over to pat the rambunctious youth. "Jest, I do... Go... Go, we can... we shall... But return, this one shall... with others of a mind to properly cleanse this place... and perhaps... perhaps see to the return of the less monetary debts of the dead."Sandlot assures, before lookikng to the others with a smile. "But return we shall swiftly... for a long overdue rejoicing. Undertow! If mind you do no-..."He trails off there having turned just in time to see the ranger and octopus marveling at some of the pearls they'd collected from the pile.
Sensing the attention, the pair appear sheepish, before putting away the spoils once more and making ready to lead the rest of the group out. As morbid as it sounded when thought about too much, the younger Locathah was eager to tell the tale to his mother of the venture; including the part where he died, only to be rescued and valiantly put an end to the darkening with shoreseeker and riptide!
Money - even Gulp fully understood the value of this heap of gold - did not impress him that much, but that "monocle" completely enchanted him. And knowledge of its properties did not change the impression - he might not know how to use it, but the gem was simply cool. Gulp went so far as to grab the gem and spent a charge only to look around. "How do I look?" He would give it, though, to anyone who truly needed the thing.
He shook his head at Sandlot's insistence of getting back for cleansing the place. This was probably one thing the surfaces get easier - burn something to the ground and forget about it. Here they had to be creative, but he did not like the idea. "If you need help, I'd go with you. You need someone to watch your back. Just let us catch some breath at home. And the gold needs to be handed back to elders. We lost enough to claim at least some of it."
All Gulp wanted right now it to get home, get some sleep (a couple of days should do) and then try a few creative recipes he came up with, using that interesting stuff from the barrel they found before. Then every member of their little band could meet and celebrate the wander of being alive after the expedition. Life promised to get back to normal after all.
Inclined to follow the will of the party with regards to the bounty of coin set out before them Barnacle sets about filling his pack and pockets with the spoils of their endeavours.
Ruminating on the fact that Wave has not chosen to speak to him as yet, he does spend a good while in silence wondering whether he will be able to prove himself worthy of such a weapon, although he is disquieted by the thought that perhaps Gar's actions were not wholly driven by his own actions...
The six locathah finish putting away all the riches they found and trying out some of their new magical trinkets. After some jests, they each make plans for their return home and beyond. Upon leaving the coral mountain they notice that the turvy water surrounding it and the tempest above the sea have dwindled, ending what was known by the locathah as "the Darkening."
Bubbles returns to the village and shares fantastical tales of the adventure. He makes sure to recount in detail each of the battles they fought and pays even more attention to the description of the foes he brought down himself. His master, Whirlpool, is particularly fond of the fight involving endless hordes of drowned sailors that his student put down with a single blow each. The barbarian even has a little trophy of his own in the shape of the magical candle that is now attached to his weapon.
Barnacle resettles easily into his life of a hedge knight helping ships and sailors that travel on the Sea of Fallen Stars. Whatever belief he had that he was destined for some grandiose achievement seems to have reached its next natural plot point when he claimed a cleansed version of Wave for himself. It takes years before the weapon considers the battle master worthy of wielding it, but eventually the two become a well-known duo within the tales locathah children hear from a young age.
Despite being young, this had been Undertow's second encounter with members of the Crashing Wave cult. He hoped it would be the last but did not let fate determine whether that would indeed be the case. After a short visit with his mother, the ranger and his courageous octopus companion decide to spend most of their time traveling the many seas of Faerun, making sure to investigate any mention of the Crushing Wave cult he comes across, as rare as they may be.
Sandlot makes it his priority to spend the rest of his days cleansing himself and the coral mountain of any remaining influence from the goddess Umberlee. The cleric of Eldath makes many trips to the underwater mountain, eventually defeating the straggling undead, releasing from servitude a couple of elementals he finds, giving the dead sailors proper burials, and slowly reintroducing life into the area much like Amble had done to his little corner. Umberlee never again gets a hold on the old locathah's soul.
In between helping his cleric friend in many of his visits to the coral mountain, Gl'Ulp tinkers with the rare alcohol he found in the shipwrecks and eventually arrives at a recipe that finally delivers some mild level of intoxication to his incredibly alcohol-resistant self. This life-long goal finally achieved, the old monk found himself gravitating toward another compulsion: the collecting of magical trinkets. He already had a light-globe, a especially sturdy dagger, some defense-minded bracers, a jug of everything, and now a monacle built around a perfect gem. What other wonders were out there waiting to be found on the bottom of the sea?!
Despite helping resolve the issue of "the Darkening", Shanty felt more needed to be done before the volume of mercantile and trading ships travelling the Sea of Fallen Stars could return to its former glory. Traveling in these ships was how the bard learned much of his trade and kept up with the world beyond the shores. The war between Thay and Turmish was still raging and this locathah would be sure to see it to its conclusion so that ships could be free to travel again. As far as he was concerned, Thay would not be allowed victory.
Alright, folks. It looks like everyone was happy with the epilogue above so this will do it for this campaign. I am going to go ahead and call it scene on this adventure. We can move any lingering conversations to the OOC chat. Thank you for playing this game with me over the last five months! It was a pleasure running this game for you guys.
