Gabe informs you that he will tell you the location of the clearing butrefuses to take the party to the location. When gently pressed as to why he won't return he explains that he's afraid that the "Cold Shadow" from the nightmares, that he's been having will claim his soul.
Fenrir puts his hands on the boy’s shoulders, crouching down, says “Don’t worry. We will take care of it so you won’t have another nightmare or be afraid of the clearing. I promise.”
Brix Whispers to Ursa, "See if you can find out why the clearing is such a taboo to visit." before following the others outside. He sidles up to Soren and after getting their attention with a tug on a pant leg, quietly asks, "Now that he's out of ear shot of his mother let's see if he'll tell us exactly what he was doing in the clearing so we can try and recreate it when we go there."
Soren gives Brix a quick nod of acknowledgement and Gabe his best, commiserating smile.
"I don't blame you for not wanting to go back there. I don't want to much myself, and I'm a druid who loves being out in nature! Did someone put you up to going there? And did you see anything while you were there? Like this 'Cold Shadow' - are they only in your nightmares or did they appear in person?"
(Olin) Gabe and his mother don't seem to be suffering from any diseases, but just the mere act of talking about the Clearing has clearly shaken the boy.
Gathering what information you can, you go to investigate the Clearing. Just as described in the middle of a small clearing is a stone arch half buried in the ground. Thick black vines wrap around the arch. Also, when you step foot into the Clearing it is deathly quiet. No win. No birdsong. Nothing.
Examining the Arch more closely you discover that the black vines are hard as iron and nigh unbreakable. The arch is bone numbingly cold to the touch and the effect lingers for several minutes after being touched. You decide to do as Gabe has done and camp in the clearing. Hopefully to learn more. The night begins to pass.
(Present) You sit around the campfire (Which sheds light as usual but seems to give off noticeably less heat.) quietly talking and keeping a watchful eye on the Arch, when suddenly the Arch begins to glow with a faint blue light. You're experience as hardened adventurers has you preparing for combat in an instant. Then the blue light begins to increase in intensity and also begins to pulse.
