"I have tried to dissuade them from this, Miesha, but they're not very receptive. At least this way they have a pretty focused target for their anger. You can go in if you wish, but when that building is burned down is between you and the riot out there."
"Understood. Any information we learn we shall share, of course," Miesha says with a bow of her head. "Since time seems to be an issue, please forgive us for leaving so soon."
With permission to break and enter, the question is do we just trust the crown to wait til dusk or do we want someone to wait outside and try to slow them down if they try to start things early... If anyone thinks they are up for such a task Miesha will be happy to let them try. Otherwise she believes it best to be quick - try to find an area not being observes and break in and ransack as quickly as possible. Figuratively speaking, of course...
After a moment longer of being quiet he does add "but what of the fun?" "Surely simply having permission is much less exciting!"He continues to consider, and pout just a bit, while following Miesha to find Vara.
"Sometimes the less fun way is the more profitable one," Miesha replies with a wink.
Jasper seems to consider and then replies "this is a strong argument." "Let's go!"
(In an effort to get this campaign back on its feet somewhat quickly, I will gloss over some travel back and forth to the town itself.)
As your group is heading back through the streets to the house that is still surrounded by the restless crowd, Crannoc and Maggwyn see a figure standing atop a roof nearby, concealed as the sun is slowly descending. The crowd has begun to light torches, but they're unnecessary as the figure points a scepter towards the house. Three massive spheres of crushing force demolish the entire house, the nearest members of the crowd, five of them, are sucked into the spheres and compacted into the shards of wood and stone. The crowd breaks into screams and shouts, this chaos claiming the streets. The figure begins dashing across the roofs to the West, but it dissipates into smoke that glides rapidly in that direction. The four of you are in the middle of this street, a screaming crowd surrounding the house they had meant to burn ahead of you, and across from that crowd is a fleeing individual. What do you do?
Shocked at the unnatural destruction of the den he and his companions had meant to raid, Crannoc immediately points Miesha, Jasper and Maggwyn (who already sees it) at the fleeing destroyer. "Someone pointed a jeweled stick at the house and it... and then they turned into smoke on the wind."
Crannoc runs towards and around the crowd where the smoke is gliding rapidly west. Unsure what to do, he casts and concentrates on Wind Wall, trying to trap and contain the smoky form within a hemisphere above one of the roofs or ground.
((OOC: This is a Nature Domain Spell, so I didn't even intentionally add it to Crannoc's spell list. I've never cast it before and only just saw it. I don't know exactly how it works. It does have a 120' range, shape how the caster chooses, and state: "The strong wind keeps fog, smoke, and other gases at bay."))
"I can only shape the wind for a short while..." He trails off, trusting his companions to know what to do in an emergency within the city.
IF it appears Crannoc has successfully trapped the villain...
Miesha calls out "There they are! Quick, before they can escape!" and starts off in the direction of the fleeing individual. If she can can within 60' of them with an action left she will use her Command spell to tell them to approach.
IF the fleeind individual is already lost and gone out of range for Miesha or even Crannoc...
Miesha instead focuses on recovery operations. She rushes into the flames and the destruction to try to find and pull out the five victims, ready to use her Lay on Hands to revive any individual she is able to drag clear. Meanwhile she will be directing the others to keep the crowd from pressing closer, to keep them back. "Send them for buckets of water if they want to help! We need to ensure this fire does not spread and take the whole town!"
With some quick action, Crannoc traps the individual behind a Windwall and when Miesha steps forward and Commands it it obeys. The mist reforms into an armored and robed figure, actively drawing a shield to accompany its scepter as it approaches Miesha.
Anything recognizable about the antagonist? Does the armor or robes signify allegiance to anyone or any nation? What is the distance from us after it approaches? And I'm going to assume we need some initiative soon so:
The armored figure's eyebrow raises at the sight of Miesha. Miesha, you do not recognize the armor, which appears to be notably lacking any insignia, there appears to be a place for one, but there is none. That doesn't stop you from recognizing the figure themselves. When you last knew him, he was a Lieutenant General of South Vexcall's army. This one in particular you knew, as he was the second highest ranking person who led you in war. This is also the architect of the attempt against your life, Lieutenant General Lidel Brakstelle. It is clear that you both recognize each other. His half-orc face is much like you remember it, if more put together given his apparent new position.
"Miesha Breen? The Bronze Deserter? Here in North Vexcall? Disappointing, but more interesting than my assignment.' He smiles his tusked sneer and raises his scepter.
"Deserter?? Miesha responds with a laugh. "Brakstelle, surely even you are smarter than that! Well... ok, maybe not..." Even while calling him out, Miesha is positioning herself into the best possible position to attack.
((Last I knew, Brakstelle was on a rooftop. I am not sure if his being forced to approach had him jump down from it or not? For rolls I am going to assume Miesha can get into melee range. If that's not the case, she'll instead pull her longbow and shoot two arrows...If I have to resort to longbow then disregard the Bonus Action attack and subtract 4 from each attack roll.))
We will say that in his approach, Brakstelle is now on the ground with you. Miesha stabs thrice, but only the first lands in between the thorough armor plating.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maggwyn looks back and forth to Miesha and the half-orc that she obviously knows. Why did this supposed general kill five innocent people and destroy the house before it was going to be anyways? She didn't get it. "We really should find out more from this... well, your friend here Miesha."
She spins her glaive around to use the butt end so she can make non-lethal attacks and rushes him letting the rage overcome her as she thinks of those innocent lives.
As she rages, her wild magic (rolled 5 on the game log) affects Brakstelle in that:
Whenever a creature hits you with an attack roll before your rage ends, that creature takes 1d6 force damage, as magic lashes out in retribution.
Jasper furrows his brow and glances at the demolished house and back at this rival of Miesha's. He signs and says "I hate it when it gets personal."With a shrug he casts Haste on Miesha.
Seeing the unnatural destructive power of the armored man's strange stick, Crannoc tries to speak to the gathered crowed as he walks towards the combat. Knowing that he is not best suited to communicate to city-folk. His sycamore seedling wobbles uncertainly as he raises his voice.
"We have found the den-destroyer and are fighting him, just as we cleared the Lonsvells' den of gnolls a few days back. Please move away and keep your distance from the danger. You have seen what this enemy is capable of."
With his bonus action, Crannoc uses his Telekinetic Shove, but gently, trying to get those closest in the crowd moving away from the combat.
With his action, Crannoc casts and concentrates on Bless at the 2nd level on all four party members including himself. The Wind Wall dissipates. He continues walking towards Miesha, Maggwyn and Brakstelle, getting into melee if possible to offer flanking to the others.
The people in the crowd scatter, obeying Crannoc's command. Lidel then raises his scepter, sending a blast of force out from him in the direction of Miesha (which will hit Miesha and Maggwyn). Both of you must make a DC 19 Con save. If you fail, you take 17 force damage and are pushed 15 feet away from him. If you succeed, you aren't pushed and you take half damage.
Miesha is up after that attack.

Crannoc allows that he does not think he would be the best at convincing a crowd of city-dwellers to do, well just about anything.
"In and out quickly, like a snake raiding a crow's nest." Or in the path of an approaching forest fire. He swallows a lump in his throat.
