"I guess the ship is ours and you could move some men here and move it far from the shore so they cannot retake it and use the weapons from both ships to attack any fleeing ships while we take the rest of the pirates on ground.. " says the elf to the captain.
Elsara and Deva manage to get a row boat down. Meanwhile Gendan and Runt swim to shore. Val talks to Cerax and the captain says, "That would be a good idea except we have 4 men off the ship and the pirates will attack any moment now. We will have to stand our ground and fight.
(What weaponry is the captain carrying? If we're looking for how we can fight off pirates with our current limited numbers, perhaps at ranged is our preference at the moment. Mostly getting the idea of the scenario for preparing for the oncoming battle.)
Ah, I thought this conversation was going on whilst we were preparing the rowboat. Thought it would take a few minutes to get it lined up and lowered down to the waters.
Do Gendan and Runt notice the rowboat coming ashore? If so, Gendan would stand her ground near shore (still invisible) and wait for Elsara, then alert her to her presence.
(Well that's... frustrating. The fact the captain decided to wait to remind/voice a concern about pirates reaching the ship before we can cause a ruckus on shore. But oi, No turning back the clock now. Val can hold the line for a bit I'm sure! Unless... they have cannons on the island that due to limited visibility have thus far been unnoticed.)
(Below post is assuming Elsara still makes her suggestion/concern known to Dev. Otherwise, ignore it if taken back:)
"You mean to suggest we turn back for now, and trust those won't get themselves in trouble in meantime? On an isle that may or may not be possessed of more than the twelve -- well, nine now pirates?" He asked while giving Elsara an incredulous look. Devarus then looks askance with a look of serious contemplation on his face. "That... Hmm... Miss Ruu and... Miss Gendan are quite capable of handling themselves. And, assuming that ship is at least their only one long distance worthy, they will focus a good deal of forces towards taking it back and giving our comrades some breathing room. Perhaps enough even to assassinate their leader, or free any unknown prisoners." Devarus nodded approvingly to Elsara.
"If that isn't the Wisdom of the Elves at work.. heh... I'll turn us around. See if you can magically hail the captain ahead of time to him know the plan." He suggested, and starts guiding the boat back unless Elsara has more.
"Maybe disable the ship and then regroup with Gendan and Runt?"Elara suggests. "They are hardy warriors and we need the numbers right now."

Captain Cerax said, "The sound has stopped and I can neither see the orc nor can I see our brave warriors. No doubt the pirates will be coming for us now. I say we throw stealth to the winds and split up. One team will destroy the pirates ship based weaponry while the other team will go and retrieve the missing men. We leave no one behind!"
(He voiced his concerns back when the party was together and then one more time when after the party left.)
Meanwhile the captain looks at the rest of the deck and says to Val, "Tell, me. How good are you in combat? I don't know why my own ship fired on the crew that was overboard but I don't wish to believe my own crew is against me. If the pirates are engaged near the base of the ship, then we may expect allied fire support from The Vortex. Can you help me destroy this pirate ship's weapons?"
(Ah, I see now. Still a little frustrating, if only because there was no 'No wait!' out of the captain, but I think I understand where you were coming from by not adding that.)
(So, I guess his previous wording was meant to imply someone retrieving Gendan and Runt then? Also, did we not come onto the ship with NPC saboteurs/engineers to handle the dismantling while the PC party defended them/preemptively removed any threats on the ship? Because I had Dev operating under assumption originally)
(No, the captain didn't want bring any anyone on board the enemy ship because to dismantle the weapons, all you really need to do is hit it until it breaks.)
I am midly capable on combat.” Reply Val to the captain. “ That’s a good idea. Let’s disable the weapons here but not before we make sure everything is alright at the Vortex. We may have fallen to our own strategy. Perhaps it wasn’t so good idea you coming Ali g this expedition with so few people on our ship to defend it. If everything is alright we disable the weapons and you return to the Vortex and I can rejoin my friends onshore. It’s no good idea to split our forces this way so soon. I guess that you can signal the Vortex?”
The captain says with a furrowed brow. "I can signal it however my first mate is telling me nothing is wrong on board. It is very strange. If the pirates did not attack our own ship then why would it bare its weapons on our own men?" The captain sends a mental signal to the first mate (Message Cantrip). Then he turns to Val again and says, "My mate is still telling me everything is fine. However I do not like this." He points deeper into the ship and says. "Come! We destroy the weapons now."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“If the Vortex is compromised... shouldn’t it wise to keep some weapons to fight for ourselves? Or so you plan to retake the ship as we did here? We could infiltrate and check if everything is ok. If not we can feee our crew and retake the ship but we could need the help of my friends “ says Val following the captain.

The captain has a shield, a half-plate and a rapier. The plate and the shield are both magical. Also he's a Paladin of Devotion.
"Maybe disable the ship and then regroup with Gendan and Runt?" Elara suggests. "They are hardy warriors and we need the numbers right now."
Elsara is not with the captain. She and Deva are in the water in the boat. Val is the only one with the Captain. Gendan and Runt are on the shore.
So yeah, the party is effectively split.
Ah, I thought this conversation was going on whilst we were preparing the rowboat. Thought it would take a few minutes to get it lined up and lowered down to the waters.
Well... yes and no. The rowboat took a few minutes to get down but this conversation took place after the boat went down.
(Ugh, I really wouldn't have split us into three groups if that was an option. I thought we were all going together...)
Do Gendan and Runt notice the rowboat coming ashore? If so, Gendan would stand her ground near shore (still invisible) and wait for Elsara, then alert her to her presence.

It would take a minute or few for the boat to come ashore but when it gets close, then Gendan and Runt would notice.
