Because of the smoke, you recognize that even with how well Hildris able to see, she wouldn't be able to pick out anything in the way of uniforms. In fact, you realize it would be difficult for anyone to pick out distinguishing details from more than 5 or 10 feet away.
Outside at the moment, Hildrwould have been able to count about ten of the smaller humanoid figures, and five medium sized humanoids, counting the big bulky figure.
"I'm not keen on picking a fight against a superior force like that...But we can follow them, and if we get caught and have to fight our way out..."Gawain shrugs.
"Let's get moving then."Irissays. She waits for the group of looters to make their way to the bottom of the tower's hill, then begins to make her way around to follow them. If its the rest of the group's intention, she stays far back enough to move sneakily.
Hildr follows suit, moving to get ahead of Iris by about 60 feet while beckoning to Dorra and the other bandits to accompany Iris. She also signals to Gawain, Crannoc, Gallant, and the the halfling cleric of Chauntea to go the other way around the hill.
(Hildr just assumes everyone will heed her instructions; that's how arrogant—the flipside of insecure—she is.)
Crannoc, though the smoke still stings his eyes, instinctively moves as Hildr suggests, provided the others do, moving quietly and helping others move quietly and remaining out of sight with Silvanus'guidance, as befits part of a pack caught in enemy territory (which is on fire).
Splitting off into roughly two groups, your party makes your way around your respective sides of the tower. With Hildrmoving much further ahead of Iris, she's able to get fairly close to the group of looters as they retreat beyond the eastern base of the hill. They continue going straight east, and you can see that the fire doesn't seem as bad on this side.
Gawain, Gallant, Crannoc, and your followers swing around the northern end of the hill. The edge of the inferno is very close over here, enough that you can feel the heat against you as cut across the northern slope of the hill. You're out of sight of the entrance of the tower, but you still hear a voice call out...
"You, what in the hells are you doing?!" As Iris attempts very poorly to sneak around the southern end of the hill, a voice from above calls out to her. You look up to see another figure standing near the entrance to the tower, facing you.
A thousand curses run through Irisviel'smind as she realizes she's been caught. Thinking quickly she calls back, "I dropped something. A nice shiny bit that fell out and rolled down the hill, I'm looking for it!"
His heart sinking with uncertainty at the sound of the verbal challenge to Iris and her somewhat unconvincing response, Crannoc summons his invisibleMage Hand. He does not use it yet, since it may give away their position, but he has it take 2 copper pieces, then moves it to its outer range, 30' away from himself, ready to toss the coins in the general direction of the hill below Iris to perhaps corroborate her story.
"It may come to a a fight with this pack whether we wish it or no," he whispers to Gawain and Gallant who are nearby.
Hildr stops, listens, and, alarmed, sheathes the longsword, takes a javelin in hand, and strives to backtrack unseen—or at least unheard—to within normal javelin range (30 feet) of the figure.
She hopes the figure won't notice her, as it is focused on Iris. Hildr looks for a way to move up the slope and around the base of the tower (or as close as possible to it) unnoticed, but also unburned.
She also tries to get a better look at the figure. Does Hildr recognize it?
Hildrquietly backtracks, and with all of the smoke and the lack of reaction from the figure, is pretty certain she's unnoticed. Even from this distance though, it's difficult to make out distinguishing characteristic.
"Yeah right," you hear a sarcastic reply. "Quit screwing around and get back up here, there's still a few more chests we need to move." You see them shift, crossing their arms overs their chest impatiently.
Hildr inches gradually, quietly closer, resisting the temptation to attack outright, but poised to hurl the javelin should the figure threaten Iris. Better clever than bold, given the enemy's number, she reflects. In any case, even if it comes to blows, a capture at this juncture might yield useful information.
Irisis both relieved and frustrated. Frustrated that her deception didn't entirely work, but relieved that they seem to think she's on of them anyway. "Alright, I'm coming!" She says loudly, hoping all of the others are able to hear. With that, she begins making her way up the hill to the entrance of the tower.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gallant will look to Gawain, nervous about how things are going and if the voice that is talking to Iris is within 60 ft he will cast sleep on the humanoid.
Startled, Hildr looks at Iris, at the fallen figure, and back at Iris. Our sorcerer did not speak. She did not wave her arms. She did none of that magic stuff. Why then did the figure collapse?Hildr sniffs at the air, but she doesn't smell any foul vapors, only smoke. It could be that something toxic is burning. Granted, she has heard of sudden afflictions, mainly among the old, such as when blood bursts mysteriously in the brain. This doesn’t seem like that.
Not taking any chances, Hildr shouts: "Iris, hold your breath! Something is amiss. There could be poison in the air!"
At that, the warrior woman retreats down the slope, away from the fallen figure and the burning tower.

Gallant will grip onto his crossbow readying an arrow just in case.

Crannoc does not like the sounds of the conversation transpiring on the other side of the hill. "I think we may need to move to help our pack."
Unless Gawain and Gallant convince him otherwise, he begins to circle back towards the voices, moving quietly and keeping a low profile.

Iris as you walk up the hill, you see the figure start to rock on their heels before completely falling over unconscious.

Gallant moved quietly towards Iris and saw a loud trying to not gain attention, "I put them to sleep, but we need to move fast."
