Voice hoarse from the smoke, Crannoc murmurs a quiet prayer to Silvanus' to bless his companions and himself to restore some semblance of natural balance to this unfortunate place, haunted by an undead abomination and now an inferno ignited by apparent treasure thieves.
Movement: Crannoc positions himself at a point where he is within 30' of the tower door where the figure has emerged.
Action: Crannoc casts Bless on Hildr, Gawain and himself. (+1d4 on attack rolls and saving throws while he maintains concentration, up to a minute).
Bonus Action: Seeing nothing else to do, Crannoc sends his invisibleMage Hand to pull the surprised humanoid who has appeared at the tower doorway to a point right between Hildr and Gawain to facilitate their surprise attacks. Telekinetic Shove: DC15 STR Save.
Hildr steps away from the wall and swings the magical longsword. [Action -- Attack w/advantage: 11 + 2 (bless) = 13; damage:9] She is not yet accustomed to the hilt, for her grip slips a bit as the blade slices through the air, causing Hildr to miss the mark.
Gawain waits for the target to get close enough for Hildr to make her move first, spinning his glaive through the air as he steps from his hiding spot. He swings the blade of the glaive at them, following up with a quick strike from the blunt end.
Still relatively close to the entrance to the keep, Iristakes a few steps back and holds out her hand, sending a frosty ray of arcane power at the figure.
Action: Ray of Frost: 20 Damage: 3 Cold (Speed Reduced By 10ft on a Hit)
The man is caught completely unprepared as Hildrand Gawainstep away from the tower's walls, launching their attack. The edge of Hildr's borrowed longsword catches the man between his shoulder and collarbone, cutting deep. Before he can even cry out in surprise Gawain'sglaive arcs through the air, lopping his head clean off.
His body falls to the ground, and given the suddenness of your assault, you might presume that anyone else in the tower is still unaware of your presence...
There's no one waiting in the first floor of the tower this time, although you can see some of the chests have been brought up. You descend the stairs once again, back down into the main chamber. The stone door to the throne room is open, and you can hear the town's treasures being jostled around within...
Crannoc looks back at the corpse of the looter at the tower door, then up at Gallant who is scouting ahead towards the treasure room.
Still concentrating on Bless he also summons his invisibleMage Hand in case this seemingly insane situation calls for it. He looks around uncertainly at Gawain, Hildr and Iris. Trying to to understand what city-folk culture dictates the approach should be here...
His voice is pitched low. "We are killing, ah... executing? Executing these interlopers, yes? Like we all did for the one who came to the door?"
As much as Gawain wishes to be merciful, even he recognizes how dire the situation is. This group is presumably a part of the large force Crannoc had discovered...If they were beginning to make their move in the region, they needed to do something to slow them down.
"We have one alive outside we can interrogate if we want...The rest we kill. We can't afford to take chances here, these aren't simple bandits." He says quietly in response to the half-elf's question.
He hangs back a little bit, making sure to duck low so he's below the five-foot height of Gallant's illusion. He waits for Hildr's observation, ready to rush in if needed.
Irisstays well back from the entrance, waiting for Hildr'sgo ahead. "They callously set fire to the area, that could easily spread and destroy farms and homes. This late at night, people are sleeping and might not even realize."She says lowly, shaking her head. "So yes Crannoc, kill them if that's what it takes."
Gallant'sillusion covers most of the doorway into the throne room. Though you'll still need to duck down to not be seen over the top. As Hildr approaches the door and steps into it, the illusion seems to become translucent to all of you. Within the throne room she can see five people sorting through pieces of the town's belongings that have been spread across the floor. There's only a few chests remaining at this point, as it seems most of them have been carried away.
One of them seems like many of the other bandits you've seen, but the other four seem to be wearing some kind of uniform. A dark gray poncho split down the front with elaborate scale-like designs sewed into it. The clothes they wear underneath are black, and you're fairly certain you can see leather armor underneath.
You see that a number of iron spikes have been driven into the stone on one side of the pit, securing a thick rope net that's been thrown over the edge and down into its depths.
The vampire bride must be on the loose, Hildr reflects, or disposed of by these clowns, which I doubt.
She charges headlong down the corridor and into the throne room, working herself up into a fit of Rage (as a bonus action) as she does so, and (as an action) hurls a javelin at the closest opponent to come within normal javelin range (30 feet). She halts at the farthest distance from the enemy possible while still entering the throne room and moves 5 feet to one side in order to allow her comrades clear, unobstructed line of sight or movement down the corridor: 11 + 3 (bless) = 14 to hit, 8 piercing damage. Let them come to me, not I to them.
(As a heads up the illusion stays up for 10 mins with no concentration. So we are still camouflaged while Hildr runs in to attack. Aka, they don’t know how many of us are there and Iris and I can attack at least once without being spotted.
