"I could teach you to bake pies! Savory, sweet, and tarts, made with soft breads and hard. Some you eat right away and others will keep for several days. I need to collect my companions rations, may I buy some additional food to supplement our own?" He says while following around the kitchen "All about making do with what you got!" He surveys the kitchen to see what he haz to make do with.
Lothar starts collecting rations from his companions "No need to make eating a miserable experience!" When asked why. Babbling on about his experiences cooking in the wild, lessons really on which ingredients go together and which do not with Laylee. With all the rations and supplemental foods on the table, He looks at what he has at hand and what the kobolds have for breakfast rations, and plans out a menu for the morning. Using a candle with nails stuck in as an alarm clock.
Beginning by adding fuel to flames to make alot of coals for baking. Using the flames to get multiple pots boiling. When the kitchen heats up, Lothar removes his robe and cracks his knuckles. Teaching Laylee and any willing to learn how to make biscuits and pie dough. "Always take the time to brown the butter! It makes a huge difference in the taste." A nail drops 🎶 Ting!🎶 the pressure is on! Then he gets his team to prepare vegetables from hardest to softest into the pots.
After a bit of fuss, soon 4 pots are at a roiling boil to thicken. Now the fun part, making pies! Too keep thier interest up, he shows Laylee and company how to make faces on the top crust. With Laylee making pies, Lothar curls up in a ball near the warm fire. 🎶 Ting!🎶 wakes up to check on the baking pies, rotating them to get an even bake. Then back to sleep taking little cat naps throu the night 🌙.
An hour before dawn, Lothar get his companions pies together. Splits them up and wraps boiled leaves that he leaves near the fire to dry out. Creating 3 bundles of rations per day, just peel and eat. He packages 5 big dry stew bundles, just add water and boil. And a bundle of thrice baked biscuits that will last for eternity. With his companions rations taken care off, he helps Laylee feed the kobolds. "Boiled wheat berries, gruel and grits, is a terrible use of grains when you know how to make biscuits! You did a great job, Laylee!"
Bubbling from his success in the kitchen, he grabs a drink and one of Laylee's pies and goes looking for Elder Runara to serve breakfast.
The kobolds are all very excited when you serve the food, smacking their chops and pleading for seconds. The pies are especially popular. One kobold exclaims, "Tara's the only one who makes food this good! You should teach us!" And the others respond in general agreement. As you go to take food to Elder Runara, you realize you're party is awakening and enjoying the food.
[I missed some of the description but here you go.]
The monastic cells are set along the path, and about halfway down the path is a small winch house. Traveling up the path further, you find the kitchen and mess hall, where the kobolds are busy cleaning up after ddinner. What do you do?
Lothar stretches after the long night of using rituals to purify the food and the whole larder.(although Laylee might not comprehend the ritual, the healthy practices of washing hands and heating food to safe temperature should stick) Chuckling at the praise, he responds "Laylee knows the secrets to making bread now!" He brings out each parcel of rations to his companions, along with a bag of snacks for each. "Some good eating, just don't eat it all at once!"
Having noshed all night, (quality control) Lothar gets his gear on and ready. With the scraps and crumbs, he performs his ritual to speak with animals"Psst, psst, psst" (Call to Din-Din, a chance for local critters to air out their grievances) in a quiet corner of the winch house. He keeps an eye out for supplies to create a stone tipped spear and a dagger.
When he is ready he joins his companions and Elder Runara at the table. "Laylee has gotten good making biscuits with the grain supply, it will last alot longer! Even got an eye for that golden brown we all know and love." He says while purring to Elder Runara.
Zinzenzax sleeps hard for a full 8-9 hours if allowed. Once it is time to rouse from slumber, the smells of hot prepared food cause a loud rumbling in Zin’s stomachs, he tries to restrain himself but eats roughly 2 rations worth of food before belching and needing a place to release bodily waste, Zeezee eats the plentiful crumbs and has no issue peeing and pooping unabashedly. Zin will inquire about a chamber pot or private place from any local kobolds about.
During the night, Borvnir will wake up and check the room to see if anyone is awake at that time. Perception Check: 6 (I'm assuming with a check that low he won't spot anyone awake, or spot any of the anti-undead precautions Cherry set up either) He'll then quietly and stealthily reach up and open his bag (Stealth Check: 11) and get out the zombie head to talk to the Great Undying One. Whether or not it has any reaction to the holy water or holy symbol, he asks it 'What are you?', since he's confused on whether it truly is a zombie or not.
Zinzenzax is better rested and fed then he ever has been, he is truly curious if Bahamut is his God and protector. He knows so little of church or dieties where others sometimes took charity from religious folks, Zin never did, he never trusted a free handout. Something about Irtos and this place maybe even elder Runara. Whatever the case Zin is hopeful to hear more…
The zombies head rolls towards you, it's eyes rolling around in its head. Its mouth doesn't move, but you hear a distinctive voice in your mind, "I am the messenger of Orcus, the ruler of all undead. You proved your strength by defeating me, but I will need more. Should you continue to be strong, you... may... gain.... much... power.........
Borvnir sits in the darkness with the now inanimate head in his lap. Orcus, huh? Borvnir had heard bits about him, but to think that he would be spotted by a messenger of the God of Undeath for his strength was unbelievable. He then gives a quiet chuckle. Sort of reminds him of how he got drafted to the army, just on a grander cosmic scale. He put the head back in the bag, and decides not to give it much thought. Whatever necrotic powers that were animating it have clearly faded. He then lies back down in bed, his head buzzing with ideas, but with only one thought constant, being that he is Borvnir Chelvnich, chosen one of Orcus, and he shall grow stronger to help fulfil his new masters wishes. Whatever it takes.
[I've taken the Long Rest on the sheet]
In the morning when Borvnir awakens, he appears particularly spritely compared to his usual self. He gets out of bed and stretches, taking in the salty sea air. The smell of Lothar's overnight cooking also attracts him. He takes his portion of the meal and devours it, saying in between mouthfuls to Lothar 'This is really good, Squirt...mmm...the taste is to die for...looking forward to seeing what today's adventure brings'
Cherry wakes up and carefully exits through her safeguards, following her nose to Lothar's cooking. "Nice to finally get a sleep on dry land." she comments. She compliments Lothar's cooking as she eats, slowing down her pace to savor it. She looks over to Runara, wondering if she has anything to say for the day.
The next day after breakfast, Lothar, you are approached by Myla, who says, "Thank you for working in the kitchen, the food was amazing. I noticed that you seem to lack a weapon, besides your sling, and so I came to invite you to look through my shop to see if there is something there you'd like." She leads you to her monastic cell, and gestures to the walls, which are brimming with weapons.
OOC: You can choose either two common simple weapons or one common martial weapon to take, or you can ask for a standard amount of ammunition, ie. 20 crossbow bolts or 50 blowgun needles.
Lothar springs up in attention. "Thank you Myla! I left my weapons I traveled with back on the dock when I boarded the ship. Forgotten when i got warm in the ship's galley. A spear and a dagger would do nicely!"
Selecting an appropriate sized spear and practicing a few minutes to determine it's balance, and a dagger with a heavy plunging tip. With his spear in his paw, he steps outside into the sunshine kissed sky and "feels" elation! (This is what my master and teacher meant by finding my place!) Despite his steps heavy with purpose, Lothar feels like he is walking on air.
He returns to his companions and Eldar Runara with a tail up, bright eyed, and a smile on his face. "I am ready!" He says "Knowledge is half the battle! The other is usually extreme violence. What challenges do we face at the temple? Not all creatures mean us harm, are there any to be aware of here? to Eldar Runara.
“Breakfast was so good Lothar. I want you to know it was the best meal I’ve ever had! Thank you!” Zinzenzax help s gather dirty plates to bus the eating area and even wash put away watching the kobolds to see where things go.
Irtos joins in with thanking Lothar. "You are a very good cook! Even better than Rin!" She'll also help with gathering the dirty dishes and cleaning them.
OOC: Rin was the first girl taken in by the heroes that trained Irtos. She became a maid, and a wizard. Just part of the Irtos background. Up till now, Rin was the best cook Irtos had tasted food from. In other words, Irtos is highly impressed by Lothar's cooking!
Once Borvnir has finished his meal, he then goes to find Runara to get today's brief on what is needed of the party. Once he has located her (not sure if it requires a check), he'll ask 'So, what do you wish for us to do to repay you for your hospitality? Is there anywhere you recommend we travel to on the isle, or any more undead to vanquish?'
The highest point of the cloister is crowned by an open-air temple that overhangs the cliff, supported by arched stone struts anchored to the cliff face. The north wall of the temple is carved directly into the rock, while the rest is open to the sea air. Heavy pillars mark the three open sides, supporting the wooden roof. In the center of the temple stands a stone statue of a kind-looking old man with canaries perched on his hands, shoulders, and head. A feeling of serenity suffuses the place.
