It’s long before the dawn when Cor feels his mind is settled. It has been many years since he slept, and he finds himself thinking about it now as he gently stretches his limbs.
It is a pity that the other species live for so much less time and so much of their life asleep. For all that elves have been diminished by Corellon—
But that is an unproductive and long trodden line of thought.
He spends until the afternoon using several more pages and his gemstone powdered inks to carefully and slowly draw out his understanding of Witch Bolt for whomever might purchase it. He feels some of the old arcanum come to him more easily. He has used it more in the last few days than before.
With a snap of his fingers, his Owl appears. He charges it to take the scroll and case and deliver it to Elewyn. That done, he dons his armour before heading towards the silverwood burial ground.
Encounter 104: 33
(25 gold removed for Witch Bolt spell scroll to stock his shop)
Cor and his familiar are still several miles from the burial ground and its necromantic energy, when suddenly a Venomous Snake emerges from what appears to a puddle far too small for it, elongating twice again as long as the tiny water body.
It hisses in warning, rearing back, eyes fixed on Cor’s Owl as it flies in circles hooting, eyes trained on the snake.
The Venomous Snake slithers twice as fast as Cor expects, and in a moment it is upon him.
[Venomous Snake Dashes] [Cor uses Command Wis Save DC 13. “Flee.”] [Venomous Snake: 6 Wisdom Save]
Round 2:
As quickly as it came, it turns and flees, clearly understanding the command. Its eyes are as blue as the ocean, and its scales a strange scintillating white like sea foam on breaking waves.
His attack misses, his familiar helping as it swoops and harries above the snake’s head, but proving difficult to aim around as it flies between him and the simplest angles. He moves back quickly to create distance, 30 feet away now from where he started.
Round 3:
The snake turns. Its eyes flashing with what almost appears to be … indignation.
Again, it slithers at speed, while the owl swoops and tries to slow it, trying to draw its strike.
[Venomous Snake Dashes to 30 feet from Cor] [Cor summons his faithful Eldritch Blast. AR: 22, 12. DR: 10 force.]
In a near invisible actinic bolt, the snake is struck and then … falls apart into a puddle of water with only a shed snake skin as evidence of its existence.
He moves closer. It’s skin appears to be some strange Velum and minute runes and logograms in an arrangement new to him ring the border.
It was as he thought. Though snakes are common to this region, this only wore the form of one, a familiar somehow surviving its master by the means of some occult magic.

After her recovery at the inn, Fuifui felt the strength returning to her limbs, and the clarity of her mind restored through meditation. Determined to move past her harrowing encounter with the demons, she made her way to visit Cor at their new store. A smile tugged at her lips as she congratulated her friend, feeling a sense of peace in the warm exchange.
The next morning, however, she was ready for a new challenge. Tired of battling demons and their poisonous tricks, she set her sights on Deadman's Canyon. Known for harboring dangerous outlaws, it presented a different kind of threat—one that Fuifui was more than willing to face for their bounties. With a steady resolve, she made her way stealthily into the canyon, her keen eyes scanning for any signs of movement or trouble ahead.
Encounter (201): 14 one Scout
Stealth: 17 Initiative: 20
Perception (adv): 15 Initiative: 12
Order: Fuifui (surprise), Fuifui (20), Scout (12), and so on
Moving as silent as a shadow, Fuifui crept closer to the figure ahead. The scout, completely unaware, scanned the horizon, oblivious to the danger closing in. Fuifui's sharp eyes caught the familiar features—this was one of the outlaws from the bounty posters she'd studied.
Her muscles tensed, and with feline precision, she launched herself at the scout. She pounced, her body moving in a blur as she aimed to subdue the target before they could react. The element of surprise was hers, and she fully intended to make it count, her thoughts focused on the bounty she would soon claim.
Fuifui’s strikes landed with precision, the second blow hitting with enough force to send the scout crumpling to the ground. She quickly assessed the situation, ensuring the scout was down for good, before kneeling to collect proof of her success. With swift efficiency, she stripped the body of anything valuable—a short sword, longbow, and leather armor—stowing them away to sell later
(5+25+5gp + 30gp reward and 100XP).
Despite the victory, Fuifui knew better than to let her guard down. She wasn't ready to call it a day just yet. The canyon still held potential for more targets, and with two healing potions in her pocket, she felt confident she could push a little further. Moving carefully, she continued her search, alert to any signs of danger but determined to make the most of her time in Deadman's Canyon.
Encounter (201): 16 one Scout
Stealth: 7 Initiative: 14
Perception (adv): 23 Initiative: 5 Stealth: 6
Fuifui perception: 24
Order: No surprise, Fuifui (14), Scout (5), and so on
Fuifui crept through the canyon, feeling confident in her stealth. However, a sudden shift in the air caught her attention—another scout was nearby. They locked eyes at the same moment, both realizing they'd been spotted. The tension was palpable, but Fuifui’s reflexes kicked in, faster than her opponent's.
Without hesitation, she moved, her body springing into action. She had the advantage of speed, and she intended to use it before the scout could call for help or draw a weapon.
Distance: 30 ft (used 25+1d6*5ft for a 30 to 55ft range)
Action Unarmed strike @Scout, Attack (adv, luck 1/2) 21 for 8 damage Flurry (1 Ki) Unarmed strike @Scout, Attack 6 for no damage Flurry Unarmed strike @Scout, Attack 15 for 6 damage
Fuifui launched a rapid flurry of strikes, her fists and feet moving with practiced precision. Three swift attacks targeted the scout, and two connected with solid force, driving him back. The scout staggered, barely staying on his feet. His breath was ragged, his face twisted in pain, but desperation fueled his determination.
Scout (2/16)
Clutching his short sword, the scout’s eyes burned with a fierce resolve. He raised the blade with trembling hands, ready to fight for his life, knowing this encounter would end in either victory or death.
Short sword, Attack 24 (crit) for 12 damage Short sword, Attack 14 for no damage
The scout's short sword struck true, slashing across Fuifui's side with a critical blow. Pain shot through her, and she barely managed to twist away from the scout’s second strike, the blade narrowly missing her. Gritting her teeth, she felt the sting of the wound and instinctively reached for one of her healing potions.
Fuifui (5/17)
But she paused, weighing the cost. The potions were valuable, and she felt certain that despite the injury, she could finish this fight quickly, the scout was worse for wear than she was. Her hands clenched into fists as she steadied herself, her mind sharp with determination. She prepared to end the fight swiftly before the scout could recover and press the attack again.
Action Unarmed strike @Scout, Attack 23 for 5 damage
Fuifui focused her energy, gathering her strength for one final, decisive blow. With perfect precision, she landed a powerful strike to the scout’s chest, sending him crumpling to the ground, unconscious and defeated.
Breathing heavily, she quickly checked her surroundings before tending to her wound. During a brief rest, she skillfully wrapped a bandage around the gash, allowing her body to recover just enough. Once her breathing steadied, she collected the scout's valuables and proof of her kill—a bow, short sword, and other items of worth.
(5+25+5gp + 30gp reward and 100XP).
Fuifui stood at the edge of the canyon, contemplating her next move. The thought of exploring further tugged at her, but the sting of her wound reminded her of the risk. She wasn’t sure if pressing on would be wise, yet the thrill of the hunt tempted her to continue. Still, she felt refreshed and that she could try one more.
Distance: 55 ft (used 25+1d6*5ft for a 30 to 55ft range)
Fuifui's keen eyes locked onto the two goblins just as one of them noticed her presence, both standing roughly 55 feet away. The goblin reacted swiftly, raising its bow, the string already pulled taut as it aimed directly at her.
Without wasting a second, Fuifui knew she had to move fast—whether to dodge, close the distance, or prepare for the incoming attack. Her muscles tensed, ready to spring into action before the goblin could release its arrow.
G4 Attack 14 for no damage, but hides Stealth 17 vs 15 PP
Action Unarmed Strike at G3, attack 11 for no damage
The goblin's arrow whistled past Fuifui, missing its mark. Without hesitation, she launched into a full sprint, her legs propelling her forward with incredible speed. The distance between them closed in seconds, her movements swift and fluid, a blur of athleticism.
Before the second goblin could react, Fuifui struck but without success.
G2 Attack 24 (crit) for 9 damage, but hides Stealth 15 vs 15 PP G1 Attack 17 (luck to cancel adv) for 3 damage, but hides Stealth 21 vs 15 PP G4 Attack 9 for no damage, but hides Stealth 16 vs 15 PP
The goblin’s reinforcements arrived swiftly—two more appearing from the shadows, bows drawn and aimed. Before Fuifui could react, their arrows struck true, one landing a critical hit that sent a sharp pain coursing through her. She winced, briefly considering fighting on, but quickly recognized that the odds were stacked heavily against her.
Fuifui (2/17)
Drawing on her training, Fuifui focused her mind and summoned her Ki. With a deep breath, she disengaged from the fray and dashed away in a blur of movement. She sprinted 120 feet, leaping over a wide depression in the ground with a powerful bound, and made straight for the cover of the dense forest. The trees provided some protection, but Fuifui didn’t stop until she threw herself behind a fallen log, reducing her profile as much as possible to hide from the goblin archers.
The goblins, intent on their target, gave chase but only managed to close the distance by 60 feet. They could barely make her out through the underbrush, and in their haste, they couldn’t get off a clear shot. Taking advantage of the moment, Fuifui jumped to her feet and called upon her reserves of strength. She sprinted another 100 feet deeper into the forest, finding cover behind a sturdy tree, poised to run again if needed.
Realizing they couldn't catch her, the goblins finally gave up the pursuit. Fuifui stayed hidden for a few moments longer, breathing heavily, until she was sure the danger had passed. Though injured and weary, she made her way back to town, bruised but victorious, with the spoils of her first two engagements in hand.

Perception (adv): 15
Initiative: 12

Bonus Unarmed strike @Scout, Attack (adv, heroic) 25 (crit) for 12 damage

Short sword, Attack 24 (crit) for 12 damage
Short sword, Attack 14 for no damage

G1 Attack 17 (luck to cancel adv) for 3 damage, but hides Stealth 21 vs 15 PP
