Etriel Darastrix leaves the pinecone on the pillar and tries to have her magic hand land a twig on the pillar bearing that symbol. She then looks around for a feather...
Meanwhile, the foreign traveler invites her fellow travelers: "Whoever wants to try it, come forward... I'm proceeding based on my intuition at the moment, but I have no certainty that I'm doing what needs to be done."
"This is all interesting, but I'm not seeing the source of the tracks we followed." Neldak will investigate the area and try to understand the connection between these symbols. 14 Investigation.
No roll needed to find a feather. It can be found easily. So far, Etriel notices nothing responding to anything she is doing.
Neldak, on the map, due west of the sarcophagus that you are currently around on the western wall of the circle, you can see a break in the wall that the tracks appear to go to. It looks like it drops down about 10ft quite steeply inside. You also do notice the symbol of the brazier does seem to match the brazier in the gazebo just north of you.
"Hey, this symbol of the brazier looks like the brazier over there." Neldak points. "Do you think we might have to collect and or burn these five items? Not sure where we'd get a hand, if so. But more importantly, those tracks seem to lead to that crack. It might be the moose's den."
Etriel Darastrix looks around thoughtfully... "I'm not very good at solving these kinds of riddles, Lord Neldak... I was hoping it would be enough to place the symbol on each pillar..." As she speaks, having already placed the twig, pinecone, and feather, she sends her magical hand to deposit a small pile of fuel (sticks and dry leaves, perhaps) on the two spots marked by the brazier, then lights them with magic and attempts to place her hand on the pillar with the hand symbol.
If still nothing happens, the foreign traveler shrugs: "But perhaps the process is more complicated than that, and we'll discover more by exploring. Let's go down to the White Moose's lair, then."
And, if no one has any better ideas, the eladrin huntress leads the party along the trail Neldak found.
Danon walks into the area and sees the crystal structure and the sarcophagus, he feels a tingling feeling up his spine and neck, he begins to get goosebumps despite his warm weather gear. (Arcana 17). Normally slower than the others to pick up on things, Danon is instantly on edge, on guard and looking around frequently, feeling that something important is about to happen. Something magical. He sees what looks like a sun (or moon?) dial, and goes up to it and pushes it, trying to get it to move. “How .. does… this… work?” He glances over at Etriel quizzically.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The brazier is alight (between Etriel and cirim's unknown spell). But nothing happens still.
Gazebo/brazier description: In the middle of the gazebo sits an unlit stone brazier, its bowl twenty inches in diameter. The brazier is full of snow and pine needles that the winds have swept away from the gazebo’s polished marble floor.
(It's not clear from the map, but the moon dial area is 10ft below the sarcophagus area.) Rising from the center of the circular depression is a tall, triangular, crystal gnomon—a device one typically finds in the middle of a sundial. It is thick near the base and narrows to a sharp point at the top. The snow around the gnomon has melted away, revealing a circle of symbols carved into the stone around it. The symbols depict phases of the moon, suggesting that the circular depression is not a sundial, but a moon dial.
Something has punched a rough hole in the wall in the northwest edge of the depression, creating a dark opening that leads under the hill.
The gnomon does not move when you push it. Based on the time of day, you expect the moon will be in the sky in a few hours. But for now it doesn't seem to do much.

"I have no idea, sweet guest of my soul" Etriel Darastrix smiles at Danon, brushing his fingers with hers. "Minds far older and more brilliant than mine must have designed this enchanted place. After all, I am still only a young elf."
"I had hoped the pillars could be activated by what is engraved on them," the foreign traveler explains, while lively heartiness shines in her green eyes "but things don't seem to work that way. Look at the tall, triangular crystal gnomon, though... it's a device typically found at the center of a sundial. However, the symbols engraved in the surrounding stone depict the phases of the moon; so perhaps this circular depression isn't a sundial, but a lunar clock. Fascinating, isn't it?"
"Perhaps, depending on the 'lunar hour,' the moonlight, captured by the gnomon, reaches one of the pillars and activates some effect," the eladrin hutress speculates. "But while we wait to test that hypothesis, we can begin exploring the rest of the place—perhaps following the tracks found by Lord Neldak. The white moose, after all, might know more about this place than we do—and might be willing to converse, like the dinosaur in the lake."
If no one else has anything they'd like to do outside, Etriel Darastrix leads the exploration along the tracks found by Neldak...
Neldak, while looking closer at the moon dial, you notice two things. Firstly, the snow that covers pretty much everywhere seems to have kept a perfect clear circle over each moon symbol. Secondly, there is a small inscription around the full moon (north) and two half moon (east and west) circles. You can't read them but based on the statues around, you are pretty confident that it looks Elvish.

Cirim will cast Fire Bolt on the brazier to see if it lights up.

Neldak will follow Etriel after giving the 'moondial' a curious look.

Etriel Darastrix then (assuming it is possible to come near enough) tries to read them aloud for all. She of course knows elvish.
