Impacted by what has happened to Mar, Aleyd's eyes dash to the kitchen door in the back. "I... I sent them there. I have to protect Imizael. We have to shelter the civilians!" Aleyd then dashes around the counter and to the kitchen door {K-16}, standing guard there for now but showing her intention to go through the door next.
While the Black Fist Captain moves, Raist releases his [spell]Scorching Ray;prepared rays[/spells] at the giant who appeared around the corner. All three rays find their mark, and the giant grunts in pain three distinct times. (Green-scaled two-headed giant {S-11,T-12} takes 19 fire damage.)
The elven wizard then keeps his target guessing by launching the opposite element at him next. This second spell also finds its mark, both when the projectile hits and when it shatters. (Green-scaled two-headed giant {S-11,T-12} takes 9 cold damage.)
The civilians that are closest to the giant, despite being beyond the spells' range, still fall to the ground in a fearful reaction to the sudden cold explosion. They go prone, losing precious seconds in their vital escape.
Raist goes outside and finds some cover around the corner {Q-23}. A whistle and a pointing finger from one of the hobgoblins are enough to send the nearby drake in pursuit of the spellcasting elf. Like a hound, the drake moves closer to Raist with hunting intent {U-19}.
The civilians in the street scramble to find safety. Some are more successful than others.
(OOC: It looks like my post#94 was cut off at the end. I had posted how the man in robes used a spell on himself, but that somehow got lost in the Forum ether. So, let me confirm here that the spell is in place.)
NOTE: The rectangle with a red symbol behind the Giant represents the wagon that he is pulling. Markoth shows in the map in the token marked with a white border but he is not in the initiative order.
Judging Villonah's injuries as putting her in the most precarious situation, the two hobgoblins share a nod and focus their next attacks on her. One of them spares a glance around the corner and requests: "Farvnik, HELP!" He then shoots arrows, the other uses his greatsword:
-> Longbow vs. Villonah: Attack: 24 Damage: 10 (on a hit, there is an additional 4 of damage; with another 5 if it is a crit.)
-> Longbow vs. Villonah: Attack: 24 Damage: 11 (on a hit, there is an additional 5 of damage; with another 4 if it is a crit.)
-> Greatsword vs. Villonah: Attack: 23 Damage: 11 (on a hit, there is an additional 3 of damage; with another 2 if it is a crit.)
-> Greatsword vs. Villonah: Attack: 22 Damage: 11 (on a hit, there is an additional 2 of damage; with another 1 if it is a crit.)
Both Doozey's and Biscuit's eyes first narrow in suspicion, then widen from an epiphany that comes all too late. And while one desperately tries to yell and draw attention away from Villonah, the other frantically shifted his posture in a bid to keep her safe. But it is all for naught.
"NO!"Doozey can only but cry out with tears already brimming in the corner of his eyes and scimitar dropped as he tried to lunge for the falling gnome. as he could do nothing but watch as Villonah began slipping from Biscuit back. Before she can even touch the ground or the hobgoblin can complete a follow-up stroke of the blade, Biscuit lets out a haunting howl as something in him snaps free.
Restraint.
Although he pretended otherwise, it took conscious effort for the mastiff to maintain the glamour that allowed him to pretend he was still just a tundra mastiff. To cling to an identity that has since been warped by one ranger's effort to bond and provide succor for Biscuit's ailing heart and soul from too many resurrections. At times he slipped up, of course. Almost every time he'd enter battle ground had to be given to focus on protecting those he cared for. But even then, he clung to his old identity in keeping to a four legged form.
But no more. As he felt the weight upon his back lighten, his thoughts narrowed down to one simple concept: Protect. Time "resumes" as Biscuit dissolves into a mass of whirling vines and branches, drawing Villonah in and shielding her for those precious few seconds. Hobgoblin blade completes its arc smashing into the mass, eliciting a tortured yelp and shocking Biscuit into a rough facsimile of a canine form. Though one who's neck and back leaked sap from bladed shredded greenery, and an arm unnatural coiled and clutching a certain gnome to his chest.
"Ruh.... Roof... Riscuif... Rofecc!"Biscuit growled out as he glared defiantly at the hobgoblin with his many new eyes.

After silently agreeing on a target, the first hobgoblin releases two arrows in quick succession as Villonah's attention is focused on his kin. The arrows find their mark: the gnome's center mass and her neck, quickly pushing her into unconsciousness. (Villonah takes 39 piercing and poison damage and is unconscious, incapacitated and in the process of falling prone.)
The second hobgoblin sees an opportunity to send a message to those who defy the Cult of the Dragon. His first slash catches Villonah's back and almost pushes her beyond any healing. (Villonah takes two DEATH saving throw fails.)
As the hobgoblin whirls his blade for a backstroke... (see post#106). Biscuit's true form is now revealed, including a deep new gash as a reward for his heroic moment. (Biscuit takes 22 slashing and poison damage.)
Still kneeling with Mar's body, Utar realises two things.
1) While he is needed immediately here, he is also likely needed outside where he can help the rest of CRAP. He needs to be finished with Mar, and soon.
2) That Mar is too badly damaged to give him a quick top up of divine energy and his own medical knowledge is not good enough to give a clear picture of what Mar needs. At worst, he is dead, beyond immediate help, if so, clearing the streets is priority one. If he's dying, Utar's next act should solve that problem, if he's in need of additional divine spark, Utar can cover that too.
Yelling over the sound of battle to Aleyd, he urges his former captain on, "Check on Imizael, drive them back and make this place safe for them!"
Action: Touching Mar's chest, Utar intones a quick prayer to Torm, casting spare the dying to stabilise the innkeep.
Bonus: Removing his hand from Mar, Utar continues to intone a short prayer, casting healing word at first level. Mar recovers 2d4+5 hp. [Roll]2d4+5[/roll]
Move: Standing, Utar shuffles himself towards the door to The Laughing Goblin, standing guard should any attempt to enter. To R,19.

Rolling extra damage dice for the last Greatsword attack to account for the "auto-crit": 8
