Gilra turns back to the sphere, circles around it and says, "So who of us knows most about arcane stuff? I can lend you all my knowledge and help you figure this stuff out"
Mankur: Your magic washes over the sphere and the magic seems to waiver for a moment but then stays in place. It doesn't make sense. The casting was strong, it should have worked.
Now that you all have learned some more about this spell, we can do another round of Arcana checks, this time with advantage.

Ileanys flies over to the sphere for a closer look, trying to determine what it might be.
Arcana: 15
Then (I’m assuming that doesn’t tell me anything, if it does I may change what I do) he backs way and lets the others try to figure out what it is while he casts Foresight on himself.
(Did my last post get ignored? Laucian asked the Balor questions before Raze did and even did an Insight check too.)
Laucian had heard Gilra ask who knew arcane stuff, thinking that he studied a lot about the arcane and should know more than most of these people. Then he watched Mankur attempt to dispel the sphere, extremely surprised to see that it was still standing. How can that be? That must be one powerful spell, trying to recall what exactly that can be.
(Let's try Arcana again, please roll high this time.)

(Sorry Amaya, I update this thread from work a lot and sometimes I miss things. In response to the question of how he got there, he would have told you the same thing he told Raze.)
Laucian:The Balor turns its large head toward you.
You ask why I would not attack after I am free? There are many of you and only one of me. If you are strong enough to free me, then you are strong enough to imprison me again are you not?
Charisma check for the Balor vs your insight: 18
It's hard to get a read on this creatures intentions... but you think he's telling the truth about why he was imprisoned and if he'll attack you.
With your Arcana check, you successfully recognize that this is the Imprisonment spell. It can be broken by Dispel Magic, but only if it is cast at 9th level.
Laucian listened to the Balor, doubting it for a second before deciding that the thing was telling the truth after all. "Yes, that is certainly true. Stopping one demon is mere child's play for us. I imagine you must have waited so long for freedom, it would be a real shame for you to be imprisoned again, Vaalosh." he then said back to it with a nod and a grin. After a while, he finally figured out what this spell is, Imprisonment and that it can only be broken with a 9th Level Dispel Magic. "Your Dispel Magic wasn't cast high enough. It needs to be at 9th level to get rid of that Imprisonment spell." he told Mankur, wondering if it would be worth it to burn a slot that high to free Vaalosh. While having a very strong ally would be incredibly helpful, this is a Balor, a general of the demon armies after all. Why would it want to help them after it's free? He moved away from the sphere and even though he believes it, that doesn't mean that he can't be cautious especially with his health where it's at now, watching and waiting to see if Mankur would free it and if it really will do what it said after being freed. If it becomes a worst case scenario, he can easily cast Hold Monster or use his Rod of Rulership on it if need be, believing that Vaalosh must not be that wise if an Imprisonment spell was able to stop it.
"So Vaalosh, have you any idea of how we can release you? I believe we have the tools to do it the hard way, but we would probably like to conserve our own resources. Do you have to pray to some good deity or something like that?"
*Whoops looking back I don't think I was super clear on it, but the Balor giving its name was private telepathy to Gilra. That's my fault*
The Balor tilts its head and grins; a very unnerving sight.
Pray? I do not think any deity of the higher planes would like how I pray. If the mage who imprisoned me made a way for me to escape, he was not foolish enough to tell me.

Barosh relaxes and keeps whaling on the sphere, just having a good time punching something repeatedly.
All of you hear his response to Raze-
I was trapped here long ago by magic. I do not know the name of the man who cast the spell, but he is likely dead after all this time.
Gilra, you hear an additional response -
This one is called Vaalosh. Release me and I will be your most powerful servant mighty one.
