As goblin #5 flees for the grass, time slows down and for one brief moment Strix sees things as they are - there is no goblin, there is no Strix, one can no more escape the other than a wave could outrun the ocean. They are points on a line, ox-bows in the energy stream condensed to a slow vibration; as is his arm; as is his axe and even before he lets it fly he knows that it's already in the back of the goblin's head because it is the goblins head, and the head is his axe. 5 feet, 20 feet, 10,000 leagues - it matters not. He will make the shot because it has already happened and always will happen. Time is just an abstraction, a table cloth, mans attempt to force place settings onto the universe's infinite buffet where starter and dessert sit side by side with eachother and yesterdays breakfast and everything is fresh and delicious and beautiful. This is not murder, he is merely converting the goblin from potential into spiritual energy - this is a release.
Then an arrow whistles past his head and buries itself in the Goblin's back, and as the creature falls to the ground gurgling up bubbles of blood while it claws blindly for something in the sky, keening, he can't help but wonder should he have thrown a bit quicker.
"Fudge" he mutters. He halts his gallop by the not-quite-yet-a-corpse and frisks first it, then any of the others on the way back to the cave mouth, attempting to recover any arrows he finds as he goes.

I came back to all of the action and realized that Asher had exactly 1 hp left lol luckily my high ac kept me alive. And thank you for the inspiration! That's what fighters do! They fight and they kick ass.
Asher pops the goodberry he got earlier into his mouth as he winces in pain as he slowly walks to each dead goblin, carving their ear from their head.
Goblins don't make stew much as you think. My guess is you would have been roasted on a spit. Slow turned while they laugh and squeal at their fortune. We're here because our source of coin was captured. Though i guess there's sure to be some kind of moral imperative or some such thing for a couple of us...or straight blood lust in Asher's case. That lad splits goblins open like they was sacks of gold. Good work at that by the way, Asher.
"Thanks Scupper," Asher tries a smile to hide his pain. (Deception/Performance-either way +1: 15) "It was nothing really. I saw the monsters and knew they needed to be slain, so that was the end of it." Though I wasn't expecting the reinforcements. One more hit and I could've been a goner. Maybe I shouldn't be so careless next time. "But in all seriousness, it seems like our team has taken quite a few hits. Maybe we rest here or even camp out for the night before going into the cave? My theory is if they wanted to kill Rockseeker, they could've done it already. Something tells me this Black Spider wants him alive and won't dispose of him so easily. That would give us time to get our bearings." As he walks by Dekhan he holds his fist up, for a bump. "Good job Dickin."
Dario slumps over to Asher and Dekhan, his left black caked with his won dried blood, nods at the Paladin, and then looks over at Asher. "I could sure use a long rest after our nice walk through these woods," he says as he massages and rotates his wounded left side. He turns back toward Dekhan and gives him a short quick bow and says "Dario Dandolo good sir." Dario then points over at Scupper, "Our halfling friend is right. We've been hired out and our employers have been captured. What, may I ask, brings you out so far into these woods?" He sizes up and paladin and thinks, with my luck, this fella will make Asher seem like a saint.

Strix, as you search the eight goblin corpses you find a total of 13 silver pieces and 4 platinum pieces (each worth 10 gold). Four crappy old scimitars and two makeshift shortbows are also available to take, if you wish.
Asher, you're not really fooling anyone that you're okay; it's clear that you need either some magical healing or some time to rest properly and tend to your wounds. You're not the only one, though.
Strix busies himself picking around the open-plan hecatomb, gathering what slim pickings there are while humming a jazzy improv based on the halfling tune. His haul of substandard weaponry he dumps to the side of the entrance of the cave, while handing 2 silver pieces to each member of the company. He hesitates before giving anything to the newcomer, but then supposes that if things continue as they did in that battle, he's going to need something to cover his eyes with when his imminent end comes. Reluctantly, he hands them over and retreats.
The company (we need a band name!) Petty Cash fund now stands at 2cp, 2ep, 2pp. That's got to be worth a couple of grogs when we get to Phandelver, at least. Don't forget to update your sheets with your mula! (Steve, can you update Mistweaver please?)
He looks from the scimitars to the bows to the cave mouth and tries to envision how he might rig them up in case any goblins come out looking to relieve the dead guards.
Good call putting the pp into the petty cash fund. I was trying to wrap my brain around having to distribute 2 platinum between 7 of us and then some having to give gold to even it out lol but your idea is much better.
So are we taking a short or a long rest tonight? If it's a long rest, it might not be smart to have a campfire right by the mouth of this goblin hideout......so maybe trek a half mile or more away?
Strix, you are able to recall every detail of the melody the halfling was whistling, and reproduce it with great technique and expressiveness. Some of you may recognise it as a song sung sometimes in Neverwinter, but especially popular in Waterdeep, telling an adventure of the Sea Witch, the infamous pirate ship.
Scupper, you recognise the tune - you actually feature in the lyrics. Not by name, but in the tenth verse, the 'halfling who plucked out their eyeballs/and taught them the juggler's craft' was definitely you.
I think for all of us a long rest would be most beneficial. We could hike a half a mile away, no fires, two watchman per night watch shift since we are right outside their domain? Dario can do two shifts in a row too.

Now Asher, has heard of the Sea Witch and knows that Scupper was a crewmate, would it be safe to assume he can put 2 and 2 together and realize that it's Scupper in the song? Or is that a check needed? If so, let me know what kind of roll: 20
I thought for a moment that tune sounded familiar, but now my mind feels completely blank. And another thing, I can’t in good conscience take a share of the spoils, if you hadn’t saved me, you’d be dividing my belongings now. You can add my take to the community funds. I could use a rest myself, I’ll volounteer for the first watch, I owe you that much at least.
Dekhan hands his coins back and puts on a sheepish smile.
As for what brought me here, you may find it unbelievable, but I was sent here as a result of a Druid’s vision, she said I would come here and find a quest. Haha I daresay she was right and I’d dare further to say this is the quest. I was charged to see it through. And I vow to you all to do so if it is within my power.
Asher, I would say it's a history check to try to recall what you know of Scupper and the song and then put them together. It's a very long song, though, and unlikely that anyone other than a bard would actually have the lyrics memorised. With a roll of 19, I would say Asher vaguely recalls that there's something about a halfling in the song, enough to prompt him to ask Scupper about it perhaps...

Then Asher rolls insight to try and see if he believes Dekhan's words. Insight: 7
