"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien
The goblins wakes up suddenly, his eyes met by the intimidating figures of Beetle and Serak. A lone goblin in the hands of his captors, he is understandibly nervous. Zyltris doesn't seem as threatening as Beetle is making out, but the paladin is calling the shots now. The goblin nods. Removing the gag Beetle resumes his questioning, Serak stands closer, bloodlust in his eyes. The goblin is spooked.
"KHRUUN! HAARAAN!" He pleads in vain to the paladin towering over him, he tries to wriggle away but Serak holds him steady, blade in hand.
"NO! PLEASE!"
"I tell, I tell. Not eating me please! This cave is home! We are not many, few this many"
The goblin pleads with the paladin in the dark goblin language. He is obviously very unsettled as he thrusts out his two hands, showing his ten long pointed fingers.
"All proud Cragmaw goblins but one. Great leader, Klarg. Big beasty. But not king of Cragmaws like he think. We was told by Black Spider to get them, Dwarf and strong man. Brought them here we did. Dwarf man was sent to King Grol with all his swords and papers. Big plans for him. We keep strong man, tied up inside, good meat on that one. Perfect for eats if that one is hungry! Much better than Tarnak!"
The goblin thrusts a finger at Zyltris. Flinches, and lets out a little whimper.
"No trappings promise. Just big cliff stone holding much waters. If goblin hears noise we pulls lever, flush away bad ones."
Beetle unties a goblin arm and instructs him to draw a map. Scratching at the dirt, the prisoner does his best. Map drawing clearly does not come natural to him.
The goblin finishes his map and curls up on the floor. The situation for him is completely hopeless. Unable to resist or fight back he is completely overcome at the situation he has found himself in.
"Please sir man and elfs. I is helping much good for yous. Please not eating him now! Let Tarnak free"
The goblin carefully points a finger at the crudely drawn fire pit on the maps left hand chamber.
"Here, all goblin food here. Always good food for Cragmaws here." Thinking about the water contraption carefully, the goblin sighs slightly, "No way to stop but needs cragmaw to work. Watcher cragmaw on bridge say when to let water out. Hide well, no noisy, Cragmaw won't see. Maybe try with rubble climb to food hall, easy do for goblin, no water go that way. Maybe you do's ok too?"
The goblin lets out a pathetic, weak smile. An attempt at being friendly, almost pleading with Beetle to let him go.
Beetle satisfied with the answers re-gags the goblin, checks the knots to make sure they are secure then turns to his companions...
"OK, you can all see the map... he says that there are no traps, but down the stream there is a large rock that holds back the water, if they get invaded they pull the lever and release the water to wash invaders out. He says it can't really be disarmed but I can be stopped if we can get to the Cragmaw, I believe this is what they refer to themselves as, on the bridge, he watches for invaders and is the one that gives the signal to release the water." Beetle pauses for a moment.
"He also says there are 10 goblins here, and a leader Klarg, but I don't think Klarg is a goblin, he says he is much larger creature, so possibly an orc maybe. They did take the prisoners on the orders of someone/something called Black Spider, but the dwarf was sent away to King Grol somewhere else, they have big plans for him. The other prisoner is here by the fire pit on the map."
Beetle looks at the map once more..."He also said to avoid the water trap we can try climbing the rubble to the food hall (fire pit). The guard watching on the bridge won't see and we can then get to him before he orders the water release, but I fear it won't be an easy climb."
"I think he has told us all he can and have been very helpful, however, I do not think we can release him right now, nor can I justify running my blade through him after his help or in his helpless state, Tyr would never approve, therefore I leave it up to you guys as to what we do with him."
Syna looks at the pathetic goblin, "Nor could I countenance the slaying of the defenseless. I say leave him tied here. In time he may wriggle free, others will find him or we can let him go later."
“Let’s leave him here. We can deal with him later. I think we need to try to sneak into this cave and find a way to get past the bridge without being seen.”
The group make there way across the stream to the cave entrance. A portion of the caves interior lit up by the sunlight blasting in from the outside world.
A few uneven stone steps lead up to a small, dank chamber on the right side of the passage. The chamber narrows to a steep, almost vertical, fissure at the far end, and is filled with the stench of animals. Savage snarls and the sounds of rattling chains greet the groups ears where two wolves are chained up just inside the opening. Each wolf's chain leads to an iron rod driven into the base of a stalagmite.
Ahead of them the pathway follows the stream steeply upwards and into the dim dark of the cave. Light doesn't penetrate more than 30ft ahead, gradually fading into the distance. Just at the edge of their view, a rickety wooden bridge is barely visible, connecting two tunnels 20ft above the stream. The darkness is all engulfing further up the cave, a steep escarpment climbs westwards, away from the stream about 20ft ahead. Its summit disappearing into blackness.
At this stage no goblins are visible. The savage noise of wolves and flowing of the stream drowns out any other noises in the immediate vicinity.
Serak: Studying the crude map intently, Serak asks, "What of this dog head on the map? Do they keep wargs as well?"
Thinking things over as the group travels back to the cave, the rogue finally breaks the silence, "If we can all make it up the slope without being seen, we should do that and rescue Sildar and deal with the goblin with the lever together."

Serak: Peering down at the wolves below, Serak turns to Syna, "Do you think you could calm these wolves so they will not give us away? It appears there is a path behind them as well."
Peaking around the corner toward the bridge, Serak will attempt to judge if the group can climb the slope to the campfire without being seen.

Quiet, my friends. Do you wish to run wild and free? Grant us your silence and stealth, and we shall let you leave this place to hunt as is your nature."
Zyltris thinks to himself, "I've not been much help to date." He then speaks up to the group in hushed tones. "I can take the lead as we go through. I've been able to see fairly well so far in this cave and perhaps I can make my way up the tight inclines to scout them out."
Serak glances towards the bridge upstream. His darkvision allowing him to see into the darkness. Ahead the darkness is pitch, darkvision essential. He sees the bridge and tunnel clearly overhead.
Wisdom (Perception) Roll: 14 vs 11
A goblin stands watch on the bridge staring into the gloom for any sign of life. For now the party are safely out of vision. The rocky climb on the other side of the stream looks steep and treacherous. It's hard to tell from where Serak stands how much weight the loose stones could hold.
Syna attempts to speak with the wolves. Their chains tighten as they snap towards him.
Syna Animal Handling and Persuasion Rolls: 10, 18
"Man flesh! I smell tasty man flesh Amarok! This one is fresh and ready, another offering from the master!" The first one gnashes his teeth together in anticipation. The wolves are starved and unafraid of the intruders. "Quiet Fenrir! I think this one wants to help us! Stop that incessant noise a second. He might release us to the woods once more." The second wolf seems calmer, older, wiser. Prepared to make a deal. "Forgive poor Fenrir my friend, he is still a pup. I am Amarok. Alpha of The High Forest.... or at least I was once. I long to be free of here once more and seek out my pack." Amaroks chain goes loose again as he relaxes, bowing his head slightly. Fenrir still pulling at his chain, snarls, reaching for Syna"Free me first man flesh! Let me taste your hide!"
Serak: Turning back from peeking around the corner, speaking in a hushed tone, "Zyltris, you are a faithful and trustworthy companion and now is your chance. I'm not much of a climber and that slope looks treacherous, but someone needs to take care of that goblin on the bridge.
"Can you climb up there and I'll distract the goblin with an illusion while you sneak up on it? I'll cover you with my crossbow."
Readying his spell, he says, "You can do it, Zyltris! We're counting on you!"
Bardic Inspiration - Zyltris - Add 1d6 to any roll in the next 10 mins, after seeing the roll, but before resolution.
Minor Illusion - Create the sound of the bridge creaking and breaking under the goblin's feet. Origin of the sound located to try to get him to move away from the lever and off the bridge, on the side Zyltris will be on.

Beetle mentions, “ 1 sec guys, he will be climbing up by the fire pit where the prisoner is, there are bound to be a few goblins there. Maybe if he climbs up and lowers a rope we can take those out before moving onto the bridge?” Beetle thinks a moment about the map the goblin drew, “the fire pit is a separate room, and it’s raised. So even if the dam and water is released we would be ok once up there. I am also pretty sure from that room there was a passage way to the bridge, it was like the bridge is right there. Just a thought.”
