Anafrey would make her way to the rock face and sit down, leaning back and closing her eyes. "I think if we want to see what is up top.. Eric's idea doesn't sound too bad.. especially if I can fix my bow and help to attack the birds while they are distracted..." She would say while rubbing her head. "But.. if we dont think we need to get to the top.. I am fine with just sending Sagitta to scout out the clearing in the trees and making our way over there..." she would say as she loses her eyes once more before letting out a small sigh.
Jambiya's animal handling (DC for Sagitta to completely understand what she wants ... 20): 20
Sagitta doesn't verbally respond, but he watches Jambiya as she speaks with intensity, his tongue darting in and out at regular intervals. When the little goblin girl finishes, the snake's hidden wings unfurl. Up the creatures goes.
The party is near the first incline. Only occasionally does a red hawk fly out this far from the peak.
DM roll: 10
Anyone looking is pleased to see the hawks stay away from the flying snake. After 10 seconds or so, Sagitta glides down and lands on Maldorn's shoulder. He and Jambiya blink at each other for a second before the snake impresses upon her several small hills, one large hill, and white rocks.
Erric starts to go closer to the base of the second incline, looking slowly for any leftover sign of gnoll or other people on the flat part - footprints, tools, markings, anything. When he approaches the base of the incline he looks for any small rocky outcroppings where he could partially or fully conceal himself from the air. He's trying to see if he can really pull off the plan of minor illusion of the static big bird of prey and viscous mockery of the birds above one by one to get them distracted or wanting to shove off.
Erric, you don't see any sign of non-wildlife. As for places to hide ... it's pretty barren up here. The plateau has some small-to-medium size rocks, but nothing to really hide under ... even for your small size. And the incline is not smooth, per se, but not rough enough to provide cover, either.
Jambiya shrugs. "They could be houses, or huts, maybe? Tents? Or barrows. Or just hills, I don't know how much Sagitta really gets about how we see the world. The white rocks? I really don't know." She will turn back to the snake. "Did you see people or creatures, anything moving?"

(So it's more a sheer clean face, and not a craggy rock spur, with somewhere along the entire cliffside that might provide some sort of overhang for a tiny halfling?)
"Wait," Maldorn says to Jambiya. "Was Sagitta reporting the several small hills, one large hill, and white rocks at the top of the next plateau or at the clearing?"
OOC: Maldorn is carrying a tent. We can pitch it and Eric can do his casting from within... hidden, maybe?
OOC: I'm game for the tent idea if the distract-and-mock tactic is what we want to do!
Erric walks back to the group. "I could try hiding there but I think they'd see me. Do you want me to try it anyway? It's something that might work, and also might allow us not to just kill a lot of birds. I know they almost killed Anafrey, but they were probably trying to protect their home, so I don't know that means they deserve to die. This might just confuse or distract or anger them enough to allow someone else to climb up and take a look. I'm willing to try it if you think it's a good idea. If not, let's climb back down and check out the clearing."
"Let's try it, Ueric," Maldorn votes. "Just give us a minute or so so I can pitch a tent for you to hide in and Slicecritters over there can re-string her bow."
Anafrey would grin at Maldorn as she struggles to restring her bow with her hands that are still somewhat slick with her own blood. "Don't mind me.. I for one like the taste of those birds so if we have to kill them that is fine with me.. we could dine of crab meat with a side of bird... but I aslo don't mind if we never see them again..." She would finish at the same time she finishes fixing her bow. We climbed up this high, I would like to see what is at the top before checking out the clearing. Do you think there is room in the tent for me to shoot arrows from in there?" She woudl ask with a small grin.
And everyone who's doing something, roll ... 4d20 that I can use. But roll them in four separate spoilers so I can only see one roll at a time. Erric, go ahead and tell yours to reroll 1s (halfling luck). If I need it for something that doesn't get that racial trait, I can still see you rolled a 1 first.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I think the plan is this:
Erric goes into the tent, which fits 2 people, and performs his illusion tricks and hopefully drive the birds away at least momentarily.
Anafrey joins Erric in the tent and shoots at any attacking bird from possibly a hidden/unseen position.
Maldorn will also provide cover fire, but from behind the tent instead of inside it, hoping to get a bit of cover.
Jambiya... I'm not sure, but she could join Maldorn behind the tent and shoot her sparks.
The goal is to draw them away, and only kill those that threaten us (Plan A). Alternatively, Maldorn actually has a second tent, so Jambiya and him could also shoot from hopefully a hidden/unseen position (Plan B). Yet another possibility is for Maldorn and Jambiya to provide cover fire while Anafrey, the most muscular, quickly tries to climb while the birds are distracted/being shot (Plan C).
Maldorn would prefer not to risk both tents, and therefore votes for Plan A.
One thing to keep in mind is that while Erric's silent image has a range of 60 feet, his minor illusion only has a range of 30 feet. The height of the top of the peak is 30 feet straight up, but it's 40 feet from the base of the incline to the top of the incline.
Erric is on board with this if the others are. He asks Jambiya, "do you want to stay out of the fray and keep watch for anything else? I don't know that this is the best option, but it is an option."
Plan A sounds good to Erric, and he'll try to position his minor image about 10 feet up the slope from the tent, and 20 feet to the right or left, whichever seems like a more plausible place for a big, scary, heavily-clawed, ostrich-sized, stationary bird of prey about 5 feet tall and trying to puff out its feathers and intimidate the smaller birds.
Then, when everyone is ready to start shooting arrows, he'll begin casting vicious mockery at the closest birds he can reach within 60 feet. He'll do this in the form of an absurd, deep, flatulent bird call using his horn. I don't know the birds' wisdom modifiers, but all it has to do is hear me, not understand me. Here are a few 1d4 psychic damage rolls: 2431. He'll try to get any that seem to get too close to the ground. If they begin to fly away, he'll stop.

"Jambiya," Maldorn calls without breaking eye contact with the snake. "What do you think the white rock represents?"

It has enough rocks and divots to make it an OK surface to climb, but there aren't any hidey holes.
