Veythe sighed. Were they honestly fighting over this now, really? Just over there was the hedron! Why did it matter if Vasha used the glider or not? She knew what it was, obviously!
"Isn't this a kor creation?" Veythe pointed out. "It'd make sense for a kor to use it then, right? Vasha found it, she's agile, and I bet knowledgeable about knots too given her skills in climbing. I vote Vasha."
"No, we're not voting on who gets to risk their life," Vesra said in exasperation. She reached down and picked up the glider, then walked over to Vasha and laid it down by her feet. "Vashi-Vasha, if you really want it, take it. Just be careful."
Vasha watched her sister, expressionless. Once she left the glider, Vasha turned to Veythe. "We need rope. As much as we can get. Once I'm on the other side, secure it to something on this side, and take up the slack." She gave Veythe a smile. "This will work."
Vesra got to touch it. Kayn should get to touch it too.
Kayn hops atop his gnarlid and starts digging through the packs. There's got to be rope somewhere. When everyone has gathered their rope, he returns to the flying contraption and starts inspecting the flying marvel. It wasn't in the best of shape, but it might glide like it should. Looking over the ravine, he tries to determine the approximate time of decent. "Okay... you need to pull down right at the end of the river or else you're going to crash into the Hedron's cliff! Be sure to tie up as tight as you can and take all of the slack of the rope. We might need it later."
He wasn't sure if there would be much slack left, but it was always good to have extra rope after tying it up.
Veythe blinked and pulled her pack around. Ato had given her back the silk rope she grabbed off of a goblin, so she quickly pulled out its length and handed it over to Vasha with a smile in return.
"I'm sure everything will be," Veythe agreed. "If anything, I could play a tune to keep you motivated!"
Veythe wondered if she should also play a tune for Vesra. The twins dearly looked like they needed some form of inspiration -- and honestly Veythe doubted she could make a knot better than Vesra could if push came to shove. Especially since Vasha would be on the other end of the line, tying it off down there.
Vasha got busy tying the silk rope to the rope she had in her pack, making sure the knot was tight enough to hold up to the stress it would soon be under. She listened to Kayns advice on where to land, scanning the area around the river. Having been given more rope, she began to tie everything together. "There's at least 200 feet of rope here. This should be enough." She had positioned the glider away from the cliff edge, so she could get a little bit of a running start, and began tying the silk rope to the glider itself. Running through everything in her mind, Vasha was nervous. She'd never done anything like this before, and if anything went wrong, she would plummet to her death.
Ato watched without comment as the three squabbled over who'd risk their life by jumping off the cliff with the glider. This is getting ridiculous, he thought, are we going to fight over everything? When Vasha finally took charge of the situation, he too fished out the length of rope from his pack, adding it to the collection. He tried to judge the distance to the hedron, compared to the length of rope they had to try this. "It's now or never. Good luck, Vasha, you can do this."
With all the rope tied, and her gear prepared, Vasha prepared herself. She was excited but nervous. A couple of deep breaths later, she took a running start at the edge of the cliff and launched herself into the air. The feeling of flying was spectacular. She'd never experienced anything quite like it. Climbing was a close experience, but nothing like this. She watched the ground below her slowly moving behind her. Then she realized she was going to overshoot the landing area. "Shit," she whispered to herself. Turning the glider, she slowly circled the area she was targeting, until finally, she landed. It was at that point, she realized her mistake. The rope lay limp on the ground, instead of hanging from the cliff above.
Panic set in as she started gathering up the rope. How were the others going to get to her? What would happen if she were attacked right now? Would she be able to cross the river if she needed?
Vesra’s heart leapt into her throat as she watched her sister soar. She made eye contact with Veythe and signed a quick message to her while her twin was gone. Keep her well, she signed. Vasha could fight her own battles, and didn’t need anyone to keep her safe. And don’t die like the last one.
She was so caught up in the message that she didn’t notice the rope slip away. “I think we need to climb down,” the druid said, panicking slightly that her sister was out of sight. What was she doing? “I can turn into a giant lizard again and take someone down on my back if they’re not comfortable climbing. We can cross the river when we get to it.”
As Vasha finished her preparations and had made her running leap off the cliff, Ato caught sight of something. The end of the rope, still coiled on the ground and not tied to a tree yet. He dashed over and scooped it up, breathing a sigh of relief as he did so. It was short-lived as Vasha was forced to bank and circle the glider, pulling ever more rope along behind her. Suddenly she reached the end of her rope (literally!) and with a jerk, it was pulled free of Ato's grip as he was forced to let it go lest he be dragged off the cliff himself. "No!," he called out in shock, but it was too late, and Vasha was far below and out of earshot in any case.
“I think we need to climb down.” Vesra was the first to offer a suggestion as the group stood, still surprised at how quickly their plan had fallen apart. "No, not yet," Ato replied. "She obviously has something in mind - let's give her a few minutes to see what she does. We haven't seen anything moving over there, so she should be safe enough for now."
Kayn started waving madly to direct Vasha to the correct landing. When she failed to pull down quick enough, he covered his eyes with his claws and couldn't bare to watch. But in the end, she was ok. He wooped loudly when he saw her begin dragging the rope across the river. That looked fun!
Seeing no other option, Kayn hops atop his gnarlid and decides to attempt a climb down. He might be able to make it through the river if it didn't prove too deep. His gnarlid wouldn't have been able to travel down the rope anyway, so he had no other recourse. If he fell from the climb, he could easily cast featherfall on himself and his gnarlid to prevent injury.
Searching around, Vasha found a grove of trees. Finding the perfect branch, she was able to fashion a javelin within minutes. She went to the glider and untied the silk rope from it, and tied it to the javelin. Making her way to the river, she hoped her plan would work. She launched the javelin, aiming for the opposite shore, but gravely miscalculated the throw. The added weight of the rope threw the javelin directly into the water. She reeled it back in, and inspected the javelin. Vasha was pleased to see no damage was done to it.
Now that she'd gotten a feeling for the weight and balance of the makeshift weapon, she was confident in herself. She launched it again, and gave out a little cheer as it soared well past the river. That silk rope should show up nicely enough so the group wouldn't miss it. Taking the rest of the rope, she tied a tight knot to a sturdy tree, removing the extra 100 feet of rope at the end. Now, the rest was up to them. Once the glider was folded back up, Vasha stood gazing in the direction of the hedron.

“I guess we’re going down then,” Vesra said meekly. “If anyone wants a ride down, I’d be happy to oblige.” The druid left it at that, not feeling as if more words were necessary. Her form grew and transformed until a giant lizard stood in her place. She waited patiently for someone to hop on her back before she would make the climb down.
Gnarlid-Kayn begins his decent. Normally it's able to scramble up and down a surface with ease, but the weight of two packs, a huge egg, and a squirrely goblin on its back makes it much more difficult. It gets thirty feet down before it starts to scramble for claw-holds. Digging into the rough earth, it finally finds one. It climbs down another thirty feet and immediately loses its grip. In a cloud of dirt you can see gnarlid claws grasping at everything around. They find purchase on a root and the claws grasp onto it for dear life. Finally, the last forty come easy until it slips and slides down harmlessly.
"We made it! Easy!" The goblin calls up to the others. The gnarlid is noticeably panting and its muscles are strained, but the goblin thrusts it forward to the waiting javelin.
Seeing the bull-headed Kor launch herself and then soar across the gorge was exhilarating in of itself. Though, her stroke was wide, and it caused the rope to slip from the party's watch and grip. She landed on the other side of the river. After a moment, something was flung from across the flowing body of water. It splashed into the water, but with a second try it was far-flung with the rope tied to it, giving the rest of the group additional tools to make it to the hedron.
The goblin mounted his beast and began climbing down. Rezivah watched as they traversed the cliff-face. It seemed arduous and particularly hazardous. She'd only used the climbing claws once, and wasn't too confident in her amateur rock scaling ability. The soft Kor changed her form into a large lagac lizard, offering herself as a means of transportation. Rezivah was familiar with this creatures, and felt in this shape, the Kor could easily crawl down to the river. "I-i think I shall take that offer, if you don't mind."
Once at the bottom, Kayn hoists the javelin up. With a combination of reeling in the rope and backpedaling with his gnarlid, he tightens it up as much as he can. Looking around the base of the cliff, he finds a nice, sturdy tree to tie the rope. He uses his gnarlid to keep it tight as he places the knots. Satisfied, he waits for the others to make their way down.
Once Vasha had the javelin and rope safely on the other side, she picked up the glider and started making her way to the hedron. The group would be fine crossing the river now, so she figured the best thing to do while waiting was to scout out the entrance. She climbed the embankment and found herself at the entrance. Looking around, she saw an old campfire. The embers were long since cold, so she figured it hadn't been lit in more than a week. Glancing at the entrance, it was difficult for her to determine if there were any traps. It was covered in rules and symbols that were undecipherable to her. Perhaps if she sent her spirit into the stone, she could find another way in, or at the very least, see what was inside. But first, a campfire. At least when the group finally showed up, they could have a rest.
Once everyone is safely down the cliff, the goblin rears his gnarlid forward into the river. It splashes through the current like a bear on a fishing trip, eventually climbing ashore to the other side. He turns around and waves to the others, "All clear!" He says, a big grin forming on his scaly face. They were so close to the hedron that he could taste it!
Kayn looks around to see if he can find where Vasha went. He assumes she went up ahead and made it to the hedron... he hopes she was able to stay safe.
The lizard formerly known as Vesra climbed down the cliff side with ease, even with a passenger. Unlike her Kor body, this form was meant for climbing, and it made a difference. She didn’t wait at the cliffside for the rest of her party to catch up, instead immediately running for the rope. The lizard and vampire crossed the river almost as easily as they had descended the cliff, and Vesra was able to safely deposit Rezivah on the other side.
Content that the others were safe and would be able to finish the climb themselves, Vesra shifted back into her Kor body. The process was exhausting, and she desperately wanted to curl up in her sister’s lap and take a nap. But that was not an option, not anymore.
The lizard's powerful build performed amazingly as it carried Rezivah down the cliff's face, as well as through the river. The goblin and his bonded gnarlid were looking up at formation before them. The bull-headed Kor was nowhere to be found. Rezivah climbed off of the giant lizard. "Thank you, Kor." She was about to pat the animal's back but the body had already reverted back to the lithe shape of the female Kor.
"I doubt she wandered. She's more than likely looking for some way to benefit the rest of the group." Rezivah thought back to the conversation she had with the other sister on their watch. "That includes you."
