The road between Triboar and Yartar is an ancient one, well-kept, relatively flat and composed of tight-fitting stones.
It's been a few hours now, getting past lunchtime, when you enter a wide expanse of the Dessarin Valley. The wind whips up and you can feel the damp cold creeping through small openings in your clothes, and biting your face and fingers. Feels like poor weather tonight.
It is difficult going as you get on towards the evening, as you are facing a strong head wind. The occasional dry leaf flutters along down the road, driven by the consistent westerly breeze. In the distance, Quill sees sheets of rain approaching from the east.

The surrounding area in the vale is grassy and dotted with the occasional, leafless tree, its branches rattling in the wind.
Looking for any shelter, you spot a crumbling tower atop a hill less than a quarter mile away. Parts of its conical roof and outer shell look to have fallen inward, leaving a gaping hole above which some hawks are circling.
A dirt trail leads up to the tower; it is mostly overgrown, but Marav can easily guide the cart up the path.
From Quill's vantage point, there are no encampments in the area. You passed the last settlement outside Triboar, a poor-looking farmstead, about 3 hours ago, and you've seen no homes or travelers since.

The oncoming rain, only about 2 miles away, looks heavy and obscures vision of the road to the east. Far to the south, the terrain becomes very hilly.
Ink will have Quill circle the tower, and through her eyes examine its condition, entrances and windows, etc, keeping wide of the hawks.
As you draw within a few hundred feet and instruct Quill to steer clear of the four hawks circling above the tower, you notice by their distinct plummage that they are blood hawks.
The upper wall and roof of the 70-foot tower are collapsed on one side, forming a fairly large hole in the top of the structure, but it is still halfway functional as a shelter. A few arrow-slit windows are built into the tower, about 20 feet off the ground.
A large boulder blocks the tower’s ground-floor entrance, allowing perhaps for a very small character to fit through. You aren't close enough to Quill to see inside the tower as she circles the structure, but you are close enough to hear the horrible noise emanating from within—a deep, mournful, guttural dirge, pouring from the lips of something big and awful.

As Quill circles high above the tower and returns to within 100 feet of Ink (to allow for telepathic communication), the blood hawks ignore her completely. They seem content to lazily wheel around the top of the structure, at least for the time being.
Rip is on the cart keeping spirits up by telling funny stories he's heard, while keeping an eye on his surroundings
