Yartar itself is a small, fortified city, which stands on the east bank of the Dessarin River. Extensive docks line the city’s riverfront. On the west bank (closer to you) is a walled citadel under the city’s control. Between them stretches a wide stone bridge.
A prosperous city, Yartar is becoming increasingly crowded. Some of its old buildings have been torn down and taller ones built—four stories high, in some cases.
Because the city is a major river port, Yartar’s elected leader is called a "Waterbaron." Those of you who are members of the Lord's Alliance know that the current Waterbaron is called Nestra Ruthiol. A couple of you have also heard of the city's thieves' guild, the Hand of Yartar, in local legends of acts that are attributed to them—both dastardly and heroic.
In front of you and to the right, a wagon caravan is coming off a little spur onto the Evermoor Way, also heading towards Yartar. When they arrive just ahead of you, they are stopped at the citadel for inspections.
"Don't know if we have a reason to avoid them, but Rip should DEFINITELY do all the talking. Flint, perhaps you should be close by to give him a comforting and GUIDING hand on his shoulder."
In short order, the caravan in front of you is waved through the gates. The citadel guards on duty look over the many travelers as they pass.
Your wagon is held up by another guard. "Any giants traveling with you, or giant-related artifacts in your possession?" he asks tiredly to no-one in particular.
