I've tried searching the forums, but couldn't find if this question had been answered before. The Replicate Magic Item desciption is described as follows:
Using this infusion, you replicate a particular magic item. You can learn this infusion multiple times; each time you do so, choose a magic item that you can make with it, picking from the Replicable Items tables below. A table’s title tells you the level you must be in the class to choose an item from the table.
Now my question is: does the Artificer need acces to the Magical item they want to replicate? I.e., does the party need to own a Bag of Holding before the Artificer can replicate a Bag of Holding using infusions? Or can they just pick an item off the list and create it as soon as they choose it (during a long rest)?
Is this a one off thing? Like can i simply make goggles of night for myself and if i re-replicate does the original replicant dissappear or could i craft multiples over time to outfit my party?

As the Infuse Item feature points out, "each of your infusions can be in only one object at a time." That means you can't create two instances of the same magic item.
Hi, somewhat related to this topic, I'm trying to figure out what I need for my artificer to be able to craft an Prosthetic limb. I can't find the materials or anything that would be needed to create a limb with the infuse magic item, neither can I figure out what exactly the magic part is of this item. I just find the idea of a war doctor artificer really interesting. Hope anyone can figure this out and let me know.

I don't believe that's an Infusion. That would instead be an item your character crafts in their spare time using the Crafting Guidelines, either found in the DMG or in Xanthar's. In which case you'd probably want your character to be Proficient in a relevant Tool Set. Depending on how you flavor it, you could use Smith's Tools or Tinkerer's Tools for something approaching cybernetics, or Woodcarver's Tools or Carpenter's Tools for a purely mechanical equivalent. If Surgeon's Tools were a thing, you could even go all Dr Frankenstein and make it from flesh.
[Edit] Ok, just looked and it is an Infusion. So... I'd think you would just need the raw materials to make it in whatever style would fit your character. Some pieces of the appropriate material, of the appropriate length. [/Edit]
It is an infusion available at level 2 just like the Armblade. It's a 'Replicate Magic Item' infusion.
Once you've learned it - just go to your equipment list on the character sheet - switch to the Infusions sublist and click Create Infusion on the Prosthetic Limb. It doesn't use a source item - it just makes it.
Hi, thank you for the replies. It was exactly my confusion, an craftable object as magical infusion without any materials. I'm looking for a more clockwork tinkerer, so like dragon suggested seems the most logical way of creating a limb.
However the flesh limb is going to be high on my list if I ever play an evil character.
1) since these are "prototypes". Does a BoH actually have to be a bag, or could I put the infusion on my ring?
2) had a DM tell me I'd have to spend downtime/money to make my bag. From what I read, this is not true, can anyone verify whom is correct
1. For some replicated magic items you need a specific base item. For a bag of holding, you explicitly need a bag
2. You would need to either make or buy a bag, you don't get one as part of the infusion. You don't have to make it, you can just buy it. Most adventurers also have a bag as part of their adventuring gear.
Can I make different magic items, such as goggles of night and sending stones?
Yes but you need to select replicate magic item infusion for each specific magic item you are going to infuse
what would happen to my magic item if I made a new infusion, therefore deleting the oldest one. would it just lose its magic ability? what would happen to items kept in a boH?

I imagine they would get dumped onto the Astral plane.
If the bag of holding breaks all items inside are lost in the astral plane, i think i would count this as breaking.
Read the definition of the class feature: "If an infusion ends on an item that contains other things, like a bag of holding, its contents harmlessly appear in and around its space."

You can just choose any item you want to replicate.
You will however need a non-magical item to infuse the infusion into. Like an ordinary bag for a bag of holding - etc.

No, you don't need access to the actual magic item to replicate it, you only need the infusion and an appropriate non-magic item to apply it to.
Alright, thanks!

Or would they simply become a non magical item, so your bag of holding is now just a bag (free bags for sale) 😁
