I'm making a subclass of warlock based on the conflict between the chromatic and metallic dragons. After MANY hours I found that the spell Chromatic Orb even though it's in the phb it's causing this below. It's in the phb so this shouldn't be happening to begin with, I'd really like to submit this subclass with the spell because it fits the subclass perfectly.
This Subclass cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
Remember, private homebrew is automatically shared with other users in your campaigns and does not need to be shared with the community for players to access.
Ah so there is a free Basic Rules only section of D&D? and that is the content that's usable, man i thought the phb was allowed. Well kk thank you i didnt know of any Basic Rules only book or section this entire time creating lol i feel like a noob. Well thank you all!

Is the spell being granted as a prepared spell, or are you copying the format of most Warlock added spells in that they are only added as additional choices on the player's spell list (they still need to be chosen to actually get them)?
If you're going with the latter, then you can actually work around the homebrew spells issue; instead of adding the spell to the Additional Specific Spells section, you can instead go into a 1st-level class feature and go to the bottom where you'll see an "Additional Spell List" section; create a new spell list, name it whatever you like and add the spell(s) there. They will now appear as additional spell choices for any player using your sub-class and which has those spells unlocked (purchased or shared), and it won't prevent you from sharing the homebrew publicly.
Thanks to naruhoodie who originally pointed this out to me for my Weapon Smith Artificer sub-class (not yet released, but I want to, but also want to make smite spells available and these are likewise PHB only). Using this method lets us add spell choices to sub-classes without creating any problems sharing them, since the player can always just choose something else if they don't have a particular spell.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Ah thank you, iv been making good progress on my warlock subclass, i did expect something like this existed and i blame myself for not stating it in main post, that i would like it to be choose-able if possible, again thank you for this.
What precisely do you mean by “choosable?” Do you mean a spell that they could learn if they want to? Nevermind, it doesn’t matter. The truth is you do not need to share your homebrew with the community just to use it yourself. Add to that the fact that it is likely not playtested and edited means it is not ready to be shared with the community anyway. Do yourself a favor and don’t publish it yet.
Ya it's all good. It's a section that basically, if a person does own this licensed material (bought the corresponding book or material unlocked in dnd beyond) can choose to select spell when learning a spell. So its not forcing the spell into the subclass (which is not what i wanted) just so that the subclass was able to select it if they own the material to do so.

The PHB is licensed content. Only content contained in the free Basic Rules can be included in published homebrew.
Homebrew Rules || Homebrew FAQ || Snippet Codes || Tooltips
DDB Guides & FAQs, Class Guides, Character Builds, Game Guides, Useful Websites, and WOTC Resources
Spells from the Elemental Evil Player’s Companion are also non-licensed and therefore permitted to attach to a homebrew for publication.

It’s the “free content spells” (the Basic Rules & SRD spells as well as the EEPC spells) that you can use in your homebrews and still publish it. Basically all the spells on the following list you can attach to your homebrews and still publish them: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells?filter-class=0&filter-search=&filter-verbal=&filter-somatic=&filter-material=&filter-concentration=&filter-ritual=&filter-sub-class=&filter-source=1&filter-source=4)
