Hey guys, I am trying to create a magic item that when they attune to it allows players to choose an ability score to increase by 2 or 2 ability scores by 1, like you do with class features. I normally find another magic item that does that and use it as a template on DND Beyond but I'm not aware of an item that does this. How would you build this with the Homebrew creator or do you know of an item that exists already that does this?
You would have to create it as several items, 6 for the +2s, and 18 for all of the possible combinations of +1/+1s. You’re looking at 2 dozen total items to represent the 1 you want to build.
If you're not planning to release it publicly then you could just do it without modifiers?
Means it won't be automatic but as long as you remind your players how to override their ability scores they can set the values manually (just click the score on the sheet, and they will see a box where they can set a custom modifier).
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
It's still disappointing to find yet another thing about the homebrew system that is broken. The modifier is there but of course it only shows for feats...
And when you try to add the feat as a modifier to the weapon, it doesn't let you select the custom feat you created. Is there anyone at WotC who's improving this website? I'm seeing a lot of future improvements that don't seem to appear. :(

Dang, that's disappointing.

It might be easier to represent this as a feat and use the manage feats feature to add it to a character.
