Oh, this is good: If the Witch King wasn't killed at Minas Tirith, how would the rest of the War of the Ring turn out?
Hmm... Probably not the same way. He might have noticed Golem, Sam, and Frodo when they were making their way to Shelob's lair. That wouldn't have turned out well.
Wasn’t he killed after they had made it to Shelob, and was leading his armies 20 feet away from them while they were getting there?
that's correct. they probably would have lost bc merry would have died and the rest of his army as well.
Oh, for some reason I thought he died before then. I think I got confused on who the bad guy was and/or the timeline in Shadow of War.
What does Shadow of War have to do with this?
Anyhow, while I expect that Sauron would *probably* still have lost even with the Witch-King, many more of the Free People would have fallen due to his skill at generalship and combat. Worst case scenario, Aragorn dies, Minas Tirith falls, and no army is left to challenge Sauron at the Black Gate, making him think they had the Ring. In that case, Frodo would be easily caught, and Sauron would win.
Well, it's canon in the LotR universe, isn't it? And I believe it involves the killing of the Witch-King (I may be wrong about that, though )

It's a LotR video game that's actually really fun. I forget the details of the storyline, but I think you're trying to undermine Sauron's army by taking out a bunch of orcs, and (I think) some nazgul, including the Witch King.

Dear God, NO. It is NOT canon in the LotR universe...pretty sure not even the movie one, let alone the Tolkien version.

Could the Witch-king even be killed if Merry and Eowyn died? Because only a woman (or non-human) could kill him, and Middle-earth is rather short on despairing women who only went to battle to die...

I think Legolas could have fought him, it would have been no problem for him to dodge that spiky ball chain thing while the witch king wore himself down, then he could have diced him up with his knives.
Gimli? Naaah...
Pippin? Nope.
EDIT: Or Legolas could have just shot him from a distance, he did shoot down a nazgul in the book.

Not a chance. The easy response, one, is “having Epic Legolas (TM) kill the Witch King is such a massive betrayal of Middle Earth’s themes that it couldn’t happen.”
The less easy responses: two, Glorfindel couldn’t/didn’t kill him, he’s also an elf, not a Man, and he’s a better fighter than Legolas.
Three, even Gandalf is a bit shaken by the Witch King…now look how Legolas reacts with terror to the Balrog, “Ai! Ai! A Balrog! A Balrog is come!” I don’t think Legolas would dare to face him.
Four, Gimli is a better hand-to-hand fighter than Legolas: Legolas starts winning their contest at Helm’s Deep, but Gimli catches up FAST and even wins when Legolas runs out of arrows and uses his knife. He only lacks the elf-blade to kill the King…and Legolas’ blade is post-Gondolin, so it wouldn’t be as effective as Merry’s either.
Five, the Witch King was likely a better fighter even than Gimli, by far. He wasn’t killed through strength or skill, but because he failed to notice a little hobbit and underestimated a woman. Death by pride and ignoring the small things is a common theme in Tolkien: it parallels how Sauron, who couldn’t be defeated by any army, fell due to his own pride in thinking the enemies would never try to destroy the Ring, let alone via hobbit. Might, however much Legolas has, is not enough to beat the Lord of the Nazgul.
And sixth and finally, Glorfindel when he made the prophecy foresaw the Witch-King’s doom. This means that, outside of space and time, the free choices of Merry and Eowyn were already in a sense recorded. Without them, we have no reason to believe the prophecy would have been made at all. Glorfindel wasn’t giving the Witch-King a magical resistance, decreeing a doom unchangable, or making it so that a mortal man couldn’t kill him: nothing, technically, stopped one from doing so. They could: Glorfindel just knew they wouldn’t.
So for at least those six reasons, no, Legolas could not have killed the Witch King.

True, movie Legolas could probably 1v1 Morgoth and walk away with the win. You either love him or hate him. Personally…I don’t love him.
(But tbh I think he’d probably lose even in the movie)

Yeah, I'm a much bigger fan of Aragorn. Legolas doesn't even have that big of a role in the book. Pretty much all he does is shoot arrows and identify the Balrog first.

My favorite would probably be Gandalf (for obvious reasons), followed by Gimli and most of the hobbits.
Well, it's canon in the LotR universe, isn't it? And I believe it involves the killing of the Witch-King (I may be wrong about that, though )

You should. It's fun as heck. And I heard somewhere that there's also another game that came before it, but I don't think I've played it.

Dear God, NO. It is NOT canon in the LotR universe...pretty sure not even the movie one, let alone the Tolkien version.
Decent game though. I never got too deep into it.

Could the Witch-king even be killed if Merry and Eowyn died? Because only a woman (or non-human) could kill him, and Middle-earth is rather short on despairing women who only went to battle to die...
And brave hobbits

I think Legolas could have fought him, it would have been no problem for him to dodge that spiky ball chain thing while the witch king wore himself down, then he could have diced him up with his knives.
Gimli? Naaah...
Pippin? Nope.
EDIT: Or Legolas could have just shot him from a distance, he did shoot down a nazgul in the book.

I think he shot the flying thing he was riding on, not the Black Rider itself.

I was talking about the movie Legolas. In the book, no way he could have killed him. Movie? He could probably kill anything anyone put in front of him.

True, movie Legolas could probably 1v1 Morgoth and walk away with the win. You either love him or hate him. Personally…I don’t love him.
(But tbh I think he’d probably lose even in the movie)
Wizard (Gandalf) of the Tolkien Club
Yeah, I'm a much bigger fan of Aragorn. Legolas doesn't even have that big of a role in the book. Pretty much all he does is shoot arrows and identify the Balrog first.

My favorite would probably be Gandalf (for obvious reasons), followed by Gimli and most of the hobbits.
