Report question: Why do you have a second account? I missed quite a lot while I was off
My phone started kicking out my old one since it’s different from my google account, so now I can only get on my normal one when I’m on my computer. I could prolly find a way to fix it but this is easier (and it’s a joke for Taverners, too)
Hilarious. Now, how many cults/clubs did you make before this one? Did you think it would be so popular?
This was my first cult, and no I didn’t think it would get this big. I thought it’d be tiny, in fact.
For a good reason. LotR is quite under appreciated these days. Thoughts on this thought?
Yeah. LotR reached its peak in the 2000s and is down pretty low rn. D&D, however, is at an all time high, which is why they need to release a new edition of Adventures in Middle Earth and capitalize on D&D’s popularity to draw a new generation of gamers into LotR. (Plus I wanna buy it lol.)
Agreed. It looks like LotR’s popularity will probably go up significantly soon, since the TV show is coming out next year (at least I think it will, I need to follow this stuff more)

What does everyone think of the TV show? I think it looks ok. They’ve brought decent actors in, the shot we saw is easily as good as anything from the films, and they’re putting a lot of money into it, so at least we’ll have some good special effects.

Currently the show is scheduled to be released September 2, 2022.
I'm curious, what is everyone's thoughts on the show? Basic premise is that it will be set in the Second Age and follow an ensemble cast of characters as evil emerges in the world.
I am... skeptical. The production has had a lot of turnover, with writers, directors, and actors being replaced with a degree of regularity--never a good sign. They are also incredibly limited in what they can do--the legal rights to adapting the LotR novels are a quagmire, with the rights being all over the place. As such, though Amazon is setting the series in the Second Age, they can only create new content or reference things found in the Appendix to the Lord of the Rings. Their ability to reference the The Silmarillion is extremely limited, and must be provided on a case-by-case basis by the Tolkien estate.
Then there was the recent Wheel of Time show, which, despite having a huge production budget, did not have the greatest of sets and scenery (there were a number of obvious places where they did bad CGI/backdrops to add cities and such to the surroundings). Somehow the show looked worse than the LotR films, which are two decades old now--even the fantasy enemies looked as bad as the CGI cave troll in Fellowship, which really should not be the case in 2021. Then there were issues with faithfulness to the source material, specifically deciding to omit events from the novels and move events from later novels into the plot of the first season. That is going to be a bit less of a problem since the Second Age provides a blank canvas for Amazon to work in.... but it still gives me some concern.
All that said, however, I will still end up watching it. After all, surely it can't be worse than The Hobbit films!

I'm Exaos and I'm the most awesome thing in all multiverses. If anyone says otherwise they are either Ao, Solanar or Eris in disguise or my awesomeness is just to great for them to comprehend.
So, I just found out that apparently I have the exact same personality type (INTP-A) as Tolkien. So that's neat. And apparently Frodo, Arwen, and Johnny Depp also have the same personality type (at least, the INTP part). Just thought that was cool and wanted to share it.

Fun Fact: The new LotR show will be the most expensive tv show in history at over 250 million dollars to 1 billion!!! INSANE
Amazon has not released too much information on how they're spending that much, but sources are suggesting the legal rights to the intellectual property alone cost about $250 million. That might be a record in and of itself.

Well, the personality types aren't definite (and are probably less accurate for fictional characters). Maybe she's right on the cusp between INFP and INTP. (Like, 48% F, 52% T or something).

I would be equally skeptical of any "this historical figure was this Myers-Briggs Type". Unless the individual was actually tested, the type is really more of an estimate based often on secondary or tertiary sources, rather than on the individual themselves. Actually, I would be generally skeptical of the MBTI even for tested figures--despite its use by schools, businesses, and individuals generally, it is viewed by academics and psychologists as pseudoscience. I actually don't think I've ever seen it used in as an actual psychological profiling tool.
It's one of those things that is kind of fun to play around with, but really, really should be taken with a grain of salt, and one shouldn't base anything on their MBTI type.

I agree completely. With so many people on the planet, each different and unique in their own way, I'm not sure there'll ever be a completely accurate way to sort their personality types, especially because many would fit into multiple groups. But, hey, accurate or not, it's what we've got. As you said, just take it with a grain of salt, and don't think that it defines you or anything.

I may or may not watch it. I’m not a big fan of the Second Age and TV shows tend to be hit or miss.

True. TV show adaptions tend to be a gamble. But I have faith
