What is your favorite obscure character in the legendarium?
How obscure are we talking? Are we talking someone like Beregond, who is a fairly obscure character, but who fills an interesting niche in the novels? Or do we need to take a step more for the obscure, say, continuing the aforementioned example, his son Bergil?

Either. This could be Azaghul, Bergil, Beregond, Telchar, etc.

Hi everyone! I'm working up the will to finalize my signature, so... I guess this will be the signature for now
In that case, I’ll stick with my example and choose Beregond. While hardly an average citizen or even an average soldier, Beregond is a rare example of Tolkien focusing on someone who is not a mover and shaker in the world, a main character, or a hobbit (we get lots of focus on minor hobbit characters during our times in the Shire).
His conversations with Pippin are among the most human in the entire legendarium - two people from vastly different cultures both extremely curious about the other’s way of life, who just spend a few pages talking about things like family, their homeland, and themselves. The mundane nature of their conversation, surrounded on all sides by high-stakes occurrences, provides a lovely bastion of normalcy in the midst of the novel, with Beregond giving us a look into the eyes of a (somewhat) average citizen in a way no other character really does.

That is what I was wondering, but I didn’t want to sound incompetent by being the only one here who didn’t know. Congrats. Your braver than me.
The Legendarium is just a fancy name for Tolkien’s canon.
