Iβm not on DDB anywhere else anymore, whatβs it like around there? Is everything this slow?
I've basically left DDB apart from this thread so idk.
How on earth is the CGI good in the Hobbit trilogy? Its my biggest complaint, especially 5 armies (the orcs and goblins sometimes get away with it tho, but they all look worse than in the originals).
Sauron was clever as a very minor villain setting up LotR, and Smaug outshone Azog by many times. He was awesome.

Iβm watching the extended editions (the theatricals are unwatchable, like the reason everyone hates the Hobbit is cause thatβs all theyβve watched), and the CGI is great as they basically redid entire shots. The theatrical CGI sucks just like the rest of that cut.
Yeah true, I still think Azog feels a bit intrusive in Desolation tho. He basically leaves the movie early on which is great, get him outta the way and focus on Smaug. But then he gets random cameos like during Gandalfβs Dol Guldur dungeon crawl that are like ok that accomplished nothing that scene was stupid.

I've never watched the theatricals.
Well uh, I think the Hobbit CGI is just straight up better then LotR. Simply because itβs a decade later, so technology is better. Lots of LotR CGI actually kinda sucks compared to present day IMO.

I agree, the CGI is better, but the orc costumes are better than the CGI, and the film grain brought in realism somehow.

Overall I liked an unexpected journey, I love the actor who plays Bilbo too, the only thing I thought it didnβt need was Gandalfβs entire side adventure. They only added it to stretch it out into 3 movies, I mean, itβs a short book that they somehow stretched into almost 6 hours. Also a lot of the five armies was stretched out. I feel like the movies would have been so much better is it was only one or two. But thatβs all nitpicking, it was a pretty good movie. Bomburβs hilarious.
Oh and I love the props, especially the swords. Orcrist is my favorite.

Yeah, I personally like Gandalfβs side plot even tho it does feel stretched just because itβs amazing to see the story that barely gets any details in Tolkien get a proper story. I think all the details were very well done and it feels Tolkien, tho yeah itβs stretched at points. Five armies is definitely stretched and probably my least favourite Tolkien film but the battle itself is really good, if a tad long. And Smaug attacking Laketown is one of my favourite movie moments ever. But thatβs not in Unexpected Journey so I wonβt go on lol.
And yeah Orcrist is officially my favourite sword ever.
Alright, favorite fight scene in all of LotR, and why.
Ready go
Legolas vs Bolg. People, he rides a bat upside down and kills several enemies in midair, and then kills the bat so he can get on a tower, and although he is out of arrows he uses and enemy to knock a tower and use it as a bridge, but this is my favorite part, after clobbering Bolg for a hot minute, the tower breaks, AND STEPS ON THE BRICK IN MIDAIR and then used his momentum to defeat Bolg and save his crush. If thatβs not badass I donβt know what is.
Edit: I know this is all movie but there was never a better fight scene in the books
The films: The scene where Smeagol and Deagol find the ring and parts of the siege of Dale. The books: The bit where Bilbo steals from Smaug for the first time.

Fun fact, the reason Legolasβs stunts donβt look totally ridiculous is because they kinda follow the laws of physics, in that he needs to get momentum to do crazy jumps and stuff like that, unlike things like the Matrix. Legolas does obey the laws of physics, heβs simply superhuman.
For me I think my favourite has to be Legolas vs Bolg or maybe the beginning of the battle of the five armies, when the elves and dwarves work together.

FALSE. Its not momentum, standing on those stones that are falling exactly as fast as him will in fact give him net 0 momentum and he would fall and die. Take it from someone who knows the physics of this matter very well.

One, I wasnβt referring to that event specifically, and actually, if Legolas can walk on powdered snow then he is actually light enough to do that stunt. He has crazy rules, but he does stick to them.

Legolas is falling at the same rate due to physics as the stones. If he pressed down on a stone with his foot, he wouldn't move. The stone and him would keep falling. The only way for the scene to work is if Legolas is somehow falling *faster* than gravity, or if the stones were so light they were heavily affected by air pressure, moreso than Legolas, in which case the whole bridge would have been so insecure it would break in a stiff breeze.

Yeah that one is fine IMO, if Leggy can walk on snow he can climb on arrows np and everything else was perfectly fine. Elven knives can slice thick rope cause theyβre about 200 times better then human stuff cause everything to do with elves is, the jumps are actually nothing a champion parkour dude couldnβt do, itβs generally great.
Favorite and/or least favorite villains. Show your work.
Smaug: I just generally like his voice in the movies, and I love the picture it painted in my head the first time I read about him in the books, Tolkien did a magnificent job with Smaug.
Bolg got way too much screen time in the hobbit, he was barely in the book and was basically just part of Thorinβs backstory, heβs also just plain weird.
The NazgΓ»l: Just absolutely awesome, their armor and their weapons, their fight scenes and their stories. I really like when Frodo first sees them them through the ring. βO Elbereth! Glithoniel!β

Fair, I know next to nothing about this stuff and that event specifically is nuts. I was more talking about his massive leaps and stuff in other scenes.

I don't think Legolas is light, he's just magical. Close enough tho, and your logic still applies. The oliphaunt scene was awesome tho, regardless of the haters!

Alright I guess weβll do another one.
Back in black baby
For me, I love the Balrog, The NazgΓ»l (obviously), and the Goblin King.
Balrog: Just such a cool creature, and powerful too.
NazgΓ»l: They're just so classic, and I think their lore is fun.
Goblin King: I honestly loved him in the movies, and even though he died super quick, he really helped a lot of things happen.
