Honestly, LOTR movies are better than the books (sometimes the books are sooo boring), but Hobbit book is way better than the movie (why did they have to drag it to three movies??).
They wanted it to be more like the lotr movies, since they were successful. So they added more stuff about the ring that they didnβt need, made it into 3 movies, and overall ruined it. It also used a lot more CGI than the LOTR movies, and the backgrounds were sometimes I bit too in depth, making it harder to focus on the characters
Yeah, if theyβd trimmed it down to 2 movies and the studio hadnβt mandated bullshit like the Tauriel Kili love triangle (AAAAAA) it couldβve been great. I did appreciate them expanding parts of the source material like actually showing the White Council and Dol Guldur stuff instead of Gandalf just talking about it and showing more of Thorinβs backstory, expanding Thranduil by incorporating his retconned backstory and alt character (Tolkien was considering making him Thingol, thatβs why he was never named in the book), and making Bard an actual character but that honestly just makes me sad cause it shows how much PJ and co really knew and cared about the lore. It could have been amazing if theyβd just been able to do their thing.
I care about the lore, but i mean im no expert like some, id say im like a level above the average knowledge, but some people read like all of tolkiens works and do tons of research and even learn how to write and speak elvish and etc
I really enjoy the movies and Iβm reading the books. Extended Edition is the best. THE HOBBIT book is way better than the movie, the movie couldβve done so much better. I watch Extended Edition LOTR twice a year and the hobbit trilogy about once. I also read the hobbit a fair amount. Currently reading the first lotr book
Yeah agreed, tho I think the Hobbit extended editions are miles better than the normal ones. At least the first two, thereβs no saving the Battle of Five armies
THERES EXTENDED VERSIONS OF THE HOBBIT??? OMG
Yeah theyβre actually pretty good. Much more character stuff in them they left out of the normal ones.

Ok, for new years: Reasons why Tolkien is the most badass author of all time.
Fought in World War One and got a bunch of medals, came back and hiked through the most dangerous mountains in Switzerland as a holiday or something (wtf), then promptly co-wrote the Oxford English Dictionary, invented the genre of modern fantasy and wrote the biggest selling book of the 20th century to present about it. Then wrote several languages, the entire Middle Earth legendarium and a shit ton of other stuff, translated some untranslated Norse Myths to English for fun and died.
I really appreciate the realism they injected not just into the world, but into the characters. Aragorn being more reluctant to and struggling with becoming king made him human, whereas in the book heβs more of a King Arthur type who barely seems mortal. Eowyn showing fear in battle but fighting anyway, Rohirrim going from 6β4β land Vikings who rip doors in half to a bunch of typical medieval part time warriors with battered armour, Faramir almost succumbing to the Ring, these are changes that make the story more grounded and believable and less of a mythical thing you canβt relate too but still keep the same story and point.
Tiiime to sporadically return to make sure this thing is only 99% dead.
Chat (probably nonexistent), hereβs something I havenβt done before: Create your own custom Fellowship of the Ring with any characters from the legendarium, but you gotta stick with the same races as the original (I.e. 4 hobbits, 1 elf, 2 humans, etc). Comment who youβd pick

I think Pallghost runs a more popular D&D thread. Iβve been to Lazy to check it out so far

I do admire you, I just donβt have time for learning languages, and if I ended up learning one it would probably have to be a real one
Iβll definitely have to look into this

Random thoughts about the LotR movies part 274:

I havenβt gotten farther than Aragorn meeting The Hobbits and traveling with them yet. Havenβt gotten that far
*later realized you said movies not books
