My last gripe is the tone is not what it should be. The Second Age is a time of legend, Cirdan and Gil-Galad and Galadriel and Durin are supposed to be godlike mythological super powerful guys but they’re just meh in the show. It really isn’t capturing the tone of the Second Age at all.
That does sound like a serious gripe. They’re humanizing them. Does Elrond have this problem too?
Yup. He's a complete wimp. He's literally a teenager. Listen, don't expect it to bear any resemblance to the real lore whatsoever. Absolutely everything has been changed. Like, if I find one originally element that hadn't been changed I'll let you know.
I won’t cause you too much pain, just one thing: who do people think the old man is? Saruman? Sauron?
People are saying maybe Gandalf, but I don’t think they’d dare to mess with such a beloved character. I actually think Halbarad or whatever his name is who meets Galadriel out in the North Atlantic is Sauron.
Isn’t it way too early for Gandalf to be there anyway
Yeah, but given that every single thing in the show is changed or made up its not a stretch at all.

Isn't Elrond like a politician now?
Yup, it's ******* brilliant. You can tell it's definitely true to Tolkien's vision.
Uhm Gradius I have just been saying that the show might not be so bad and yeah we can talk about it. But please no big reviews of it, that might trigger me again.
Here's my thoughts. FYI I won't ever mention the lore changes again. Cause the thing does indeed mutilate or contradict the very few bits of Tolkien's story that are in it. Yes, it makes the Hobbit look absolutely amazing. Yes, it totally destroys the lore. But we can't change that so I'm just gonna ignore it and not even think about it.
So, the good. It's visually amazing. Stunning. It really goes to show what thousands of CGI artists working in sweatshop conditions can do when they're suitably "motivated". Aaand yeah, that's about it. If you turn your brain off and just watch the pretty picture, you will enjoy about three quarters of the show and be bored in the rest.
Oh and the plot is good too. Nothing amazing, but it's a decent storyline.
Now let's get into the cons. I'm gonna have to break it down, there's so many.
Firstly, the dialogue sucked. They’re desperately trying to do Tolkien’s grandiose prosy language, but they evidently lack the intellectual capacity of the Professor. Tolkien had hidden meanings, metaphors, and truly great points in his grandiose speeches. RoP is just spouting utter bullshit, and when they do have a point it’s something like “gravity exists”. It’s clunky and honestly boring at times. It takes every elf an hour to say anything and I nearly fell asleep waiting. Oh yeah, and the fake Irish accents of the Harfoots and the fake Scottish accents of the dwarves are awful. And the Harfoots repeatedly use modern language like “OK”, which I hate cause it totally sucks you out of the immersion and really just shows the writers didn’t give a damn.
Next there are the characters, which are currently awful but I think they’re gonna evolve into the characters we know, which is great. Elrond is a wimp, but there’s a bit where he doesn’t take Galadriel being her typical rude entitled self to him and stands up to her. Is it possible that meek wimpy politician Elrond might eventually turn into the REAL ELROND, the ass-kicking army leading soldier of the Second A… Oh wait that’s Galadriel, yeah apparently they just gave his role to her for no reason. Ok. Galadriel is obviously nothing like she’s supposed to be, but is she a good character? Maybe. She’s kinda rude, and has a sort of sense of entitlement that makes you dislike her. But, other characters at least tell her off for this, so we can be assured this is intentional and she’ll grow as a character and move past it, unlike Captain Marvel where they try to pretend like it’s perfectly acceptable behaviour. The Harfoot Nori is fine, tho I hate that she has a dwarven name of a character from the Hobbit and that she’s literally Bilbo/Frodo 2.0. It really lessens the impact of LotR, which was supposed to be about the Hobbits adventuring and affecting stuff for the first time ever, so RoP just undid the entire point of the great trilogy they’re supposed to be doing a sequel for… Great job mates, great job. Oh and black elf guy (can’t remember his name), his whole point seems to be to be an allegory for black people. He goes into a bar and gets shouted at that his people are a disgrace and awful and he should get out of here. I think they’re trying to tell us something mate! Real subtle Amazon, real subtle. Anyway I’m indifferent to his whole existence, he only seems to be here cause Amazon want to have a diverse cast so they can say “hey look we’re nice people see!” Isn’t it great when one of the evilest companies on the planet tries to pretend they’re nice people. Yeah it’s ****ing awesome, it makes me sick with happiness. Oh, and I don’t like Durin cause he’s a petty arse who is being a dick cause ElRoNd dIDn’T CoME tO HiS wEDdiNg. That’s ****ing mature, the future king of the entire Dwarven race decided to **** up a whole alliance out of spite. Hey, he seems to be the same kind of leader as “oh what, dude is dying? Yeah just leave him, don’t help him, just keep going despite having no reason we shouldn’t stop!” Galadriel. And it’s annoying that every race’s main character is female (the elves have Galadriel, the Harfoots have Nori, and humans have Bronwen and apparently Queen Miriel, while the dwarves have... Oh wait the dwarf main character is male! Whoopee!). Yeah Middle Earth needs more girls, I've always said that. But having every main character be female? That's overkill. Oh, and the acting is generally weak overall. I'm not surprised, as the actors are pretty much all nobodies.
Let’s talk about the action scene. Man, why is that so bad? First of all the armour and weapons look ridiculous and obviously wouldn’t work. The reason everyone loved the LotR fight scenes is cause they were realistic folks! The fight choreography is bad. People literally just stand there waiting to be hit. Galadriel does ridiculous moves that are clearly trying to imitate the fancy blade flips, spins, and twirls of the LotR elves. The problem is Galadriel just does that for 10 WHOLE SECONDS at thin air! She’s not hitting anything, she’s spinning her sword at very obviously thin air! Anyway yeah it needs work. Hopefully it’ll get better as the show goes on. And don’t look at the soldiers behind Galadriel’s bro in the battle scene, they’re an embarrassment to background fighters. At least put a bit of effort in Amazon!
Anyway my main opinion is that it kinda sucks, but there's potential. The problems mostly seem down to bad writers and directors, so hopefully they'll get better (or get replaced) as the show goes on. And the actors will improve (I hope). Shows always take a bit to find their stride, so I think this could be ok. It'll always mutilate Tolkien lore, but it might be a decent show. You never know.
Oh and one last gripe: The elves look awful. They do not look young, hot, slender, and long-haired like they’re supposed to. They just look like humans with pointy ears. The other races look fine, but the elves look awful. Except Galadriel, she looks good.
Uhm Gradius I have just been saying that the show might not be so bad and yeah we can talk about it. But please no big reviews of it, that might trigger me again.
Sure.
I loved/liked it. I loved the harfoots, I liked the Arondir, I liked Elrond's story and Galadriel's story. I disliked the title, I disliked the dancing around Galadriel's age, and I disliked (kinda) the 'shrinking' of middle earth regarding Galadriel's journey. Also... Gil Galad just seemed kinda weird to me

Um... I don't think your allowed to post long reviews here Lego, the head of the Club said so
Edit: Also, I think you are miss seeing a ton of things. Also, how is Nori a dwarf name?
Uh oh, better ban myself.
I didn’t go over all of it deliberately, I just mentioned the bits that really got me. And Nori is a dwarf name cause there’s a dwarf named Nori and no other characters named Nori until Amazon decided that’s a good idea.
Nori is short of Eleanor, which is more or less the same name Sam gave to one of his kids
Lololol. This goes to show exactly how much of the show I completely zoned out of due to boredom. Also I don’t have Amazon Prime cause my family refused to support them on principle, so I watched it on a stream with a friend on Discord and people were talking at bits so I missed parts.

Okay, got it. I watched it with my mom and dad and I enjoyed it. I liked the harfoots, I liked Elrond, I disliked them tip toeing around Galadriel being... older than the sun and moon. I like Arondir's little story arch, but my favorite by far was the harfoots. Galadriel's was a bit too dramatic for me, but I am really excited for Elrond's

I still think Arondir is kinda pointless cause he’s just doing Galadriel’s plot hook (find evil) for her while she’s mucking around Numenor, the Harfoots are nice even tho the accents suck, I don’t like Elrond, Galadriel is ok but I don’t like that she’s such an egregious contradiction of her lore, and I don’t like Meteor Man cause WIZARDS AREN’T HERE YET JUST LIKE HARFOOTS AREN’T HERE YET AAAAAA
Sorry, Celebrimbor.

Yup. He's a complete wimp. He's literally a teenager. Listen, don't expect it to bear any resemblance to the real lore whatsoever. Absolutely everything has been changed. Like, if I find one originally element that hadn't been changed I'll let you know.

Yeah, but given that every single thing in the show is changed or made up its not a stretch at all.

Yup, it's ******* brilliant. You can tell it's definitely true to Tolkien's vision.
