I mean, Amnon said it best. I could spiral into a thousand different things...
But if I were summarize as much as I can - it means friendship. Now the reason I say that is - I used to, way, way, way, way back in the days of "AD&D" - used to DM for my friend and his wife, and a few of our friends. And we always laughed and had a good time (because face it, back then as much as I wanted to be the next Tolkien of the world - I was not even close, so my stories and adventures were all pretty... willy-nilly, I guess you could say. Then over the years, I became a better story teller, and because of that, a better DM, as I continued to DM for them. Then, came the time that my friend Paul would DM for me, my wife, his (then wife), and a couple of our friends - and I used to draw the adventures (the silly parts) in this book, and we'd all laugh about it. (Some of these things are dated 1998... where did all the time go?) This would lead me to using Kenzer & Company’s very own “Knights of the Dinner Table” since that’s the characters I used to make these other silly strips, related to our D&D Sessions. (It links to the last one, but that one has links to the previous 11).
From there, when 4th Edition came out, I played with some co-workers, but over all, didn't care for 4th Edition at all. Then 5th Edition came out, and I resumed DMing for my friend, his wife, and now his kids (who were now 20-something themselves!). And I think back how much we laughed and enjoyed it. Then, my friend Anita posted a picture of her near a wooden DM screen which looked similar to mine (which I'd gotten for X-Mas from my friend's aforementioned kids!) - and asked if she played D&D - and she said she'd just started - asked if I did - and I explained I've played forever - she asked if I'd DM for her friends who'd never played. I took it up. I met a new circle of people, all of whom I'd say are very close to me (one of them became probably one of my closest friends). From there, some people at my work asked me about D&D - then asked me if I'd DM for them. And that game is now running on like five or six years now. All these small connections, that grow.
Add to it, that I've taken to writing backstories for people's characters and taking donations and have been surprised at how often people will donate for the work I do (I offer for free, donations welcomed) - and how much I've made from those donations has been quite nice (especially these days after my wife's health took a nose dive in June 2020, and is now on disability - and my single income in San Diego is almost impossible to live on, on top of the massive debt we ended up in after she could no longer work).
So yeah - D&D has brought me laughter with old friends and given me new friends; and I believe, may have saved me. Because I am not sure what I would have done if I did not have a ways to ... release the storm in my head, and just in general how wonderful it is to play, and especially DM.
Like I like to say, when you're a painter you get an instant reaction from people. When you're a writer, they often say they will read it (one day) and give you feedback (which may or may not ever come). When you're a DM - you are painting the story and getting that instant reaction from your players - and it feels incredible.
Sorry, channeled my inner AEDorsay - and got heavy.
Kidding aside, I loved doing those and creating fun memories. I did something recent with an Out of the Abyss campaign I was in - but it was during COVID so it was all remote - so I would quickly make drawings in MS Paint - and here's the MS Paint Your Nightmares pictures. The same DM for that game, ran a World of Darkness game (like Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf) - but we played hunters (all the players in this game, myself and three players) - and said DM were all from a game I was running so there was a ton of great chemistry between the players. In that game, I was a wanna be 80s metal head (borrowing from my own real life) who was stuck on trying to make it in the music world as a metal musician... So I would often write lyrics based on that session's adventure and make fake flyers and album covers for my band, and photoshopped an ultimate 80s van to slap my band's logo on it... You can read about The Hunter Game.
When I say I need to be creative to silence the storm in my head, I am not kidding. lol
Hey, question. Why do you flipflop between accounts? Just curious.
Because sometimes my phones dead and I have to use my computer while it’s charging.
You can be logged in under the same account on multiple devices. I’m logged in under this account on my phone, tablet, and laptop. I only have the one account, and I can swap devices back and forth whenever I want or need to.
I know that, but my phone account uses my Apple account, which I can’t sign into on my computer, and my computer uses my Google account, which I can’t access on my phone.

So, it is going to depend on the particular use of it.
Some of it can be incredible, some trash, but the real trick to it is that it allows someone like me -- whose ability to fashion art is limited to really creative stick figures -- to get some cool stuff.
THe problem, however, is that AI art isn't really original or independent -- it is all a romof media manipulation, they just have ten thousand sources instead of five. And the sources were never asked if they wanted to be part of it -- it was just taken, stolen from them, they never got paid, their rights to their work were never acknowledged, they never even got the mytyical and hilarious "exposure" thing.
So all those cool things I get from it are made by stealing from other people. And that creates some issues for me, personally, that are legal and moral and odds are still good that when I turn my attention to an AI art program for a lot of the images I will use for Wyrlde, it will be knowing that I am possibly hurting myself.
The same is true for written materials -- I have written a lot of stuff in my years, and I know some of it was used in training an AI program -- but my name isn't in the credits for it, and no one knows it, and I didn't get paid for that use of my work -- though other work of mine is used and I did get paid for that (but those weren't creative efforts, they were scientific ones).
Now, s any of that going to stop me, or stop the really rich, or stop the folks who don't have enough knowledge about all of this and really don't care as long as they can get a cool image?
Nope. Which means that right now, this is a wild west situation. Because all of those AI people forgot a simple rule about copyright and trademark and other intellectual property stuff: They didn't get permission from the artists. While the product of the AI generators is cool and all, the materials used for it need to be paid for, and they will be get sued and they will be told to remove a lot of the source materials -- which will hurt the AI programs.
And that will happen within the decade. Which will change the value of them -- and it will change all creative work, as well. Even D&D.
Right now, you can use AI to generate any D&D rule. Create a spell, a class, a race, a culture, a character. To do so, it draws from all the rules, spells, classes, characters, races, and more that already exist. It does not create a new thing -- it synthesizes from existing things a creation and fabrication that is an amalgamation of all those parts.
And they look an awful lot like existing things, and they don't always follow the "rules" for creating them, nor do they pay attention to balance.
I like the art in many cases -- my current profile pic is a generated AI image drawn and built around a scanned photo of me. Seven scanned photos of me, plus the ten thousand and more other photos out there tagged in a way that said "fantasy version of".
I cannot afford to hire an artist for Wyrlde. But I can afford to pay for a sub to an AI image generator. So that is what I will be doing -- but I won't be able to not be aware of all of that while I do so.
But I will be thinking "cool" a lot, and the rest of the time I will just say "well, that's ugly, try again"...

That question goes too deep. I’m afraid that if there were 10 AEDorsays they could not write nearly as much as I can about what D&D means to me.
I will, instead, give you a single word:
Hope
It usually means a good time.
It sometimes (rarely thank God) means a shitty time.
