Question of the day: What’s your favorite Holliday dinner? What Holliday, and what does it consist of?
Honesty, My family doesn’t really do unique foods for holidays, but the best holiday food I have had are a couple slices of Pumpkin Cheesecake that a relative made one time.
Question of the day: What’s your favorite Holliday dinner? What Holliday, and what does it consist of?
For me, dinner isn't the vocal point of holidays. My family doesn't make much super good food, but I do sometimes get some candy at Halloween from my parents even if I don't trick-or- treat. So I'll pick Halloween.
That being said, I prefer Christmas to Halloween because of the presents. And I'm atheist but still celebrate it lol.

If you had to choose JUST ONE - which would you say describes why you play D&D...
Love the social aspect of it. The RP and rolling dice are side effects. Mostly just like hanging out.
I love rolling dice. I love the chance of it all. RP and social are just effects. Vegas, here I come!
I love to RP. I love the chance of stepping outside of who I am. Rolling dice and non-RP social is just a side effect.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master. But I love weaving new stories. RP, rolling dice, and social is a side effect. Mostly want my victims - I mean - players - to go through what I came up with.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master and I love the ability to RP a bunch of different characters. Story, social, dice are all side effects.
I am almost always the Dungeon Master and I love rolling dice. I love creating challenging adventures. Doesn't need to be heavy story, just a challenge for my players so they can roll a bunch of dice and so do I.
I realize there's some that are a mix to probably better describe you - but wanted to stick with the above for a reason.
For bonus fun - since there's 6 up there, use the d6 in the forum to see what the forum hands you!
If I have to choose one, it would be 1. Ultimately, spending time with people whose company I enjoy is the highest priority. Love all the other aspects too!
QOTD: Do you represent irl holidays in your campaigns? Like something similar to Christmas around the winters (assuming that there is winter in your worlds)
I would do something similar to Christmas around winter in game, but I wouldn’t make something similar to Valentines around the end of winter.

Yes! In my campaign world, Christmas is Yuletide and Valentine’s Day is St. Germaine’s day (Germaine is a non-binary demigod child of Sune Firehair, the Forgotten Realms god of love and beauty).

I have several festivals that are celebrated universally (even by the bad guys):
Ghost Festival - A wild festival that recognizes the desire to remember and be reunited with those who are gone. Masks are worn to protect from possible harm of malevolent ghosts.
Hearth Festival -- a day for Romance and Love.
Yule Festival - Where folks exchange gifts.
Carnivale -- a rather huge party.

Yes, during Halloween I have an event called "The Hollowing" - where the twin moons eclipse, and the veil between life and death is at it's weakest - and this also messes with magic (I create a 100 different effects if magic is used - 99% of them are funny but useful - like you grow a third leg and your speed increases by 10', or you grow an extra arm - you gain an extra attack! Or you magically heal all your damage! You turn a random character into a dog that tries to urinate on you!) All of these effects last for 4 rounds, unless another effect lands on them, which will remove the previous effect. Some also have "Roll d4 for how many rounds/days" etc.
I also have one for Valentine's Day - I have a female warrior who died protecting everyone long ago, in the name of love - and now her spirit gives necklaces of Inspiration. Each necklace has three charges (and once consumed, they don't recharge). They can be used to "inspire" others also not just yourself.
And I do Christmas. Every Christmas time I have an old man, white beard, big belly, all that show up - and ask help from the party. One year, they had to go find his bag of holding that fell off his wagon. One year they had to recover the Ruby of Levitation for his lead reindeer. Each time they help, I create silly gifts that they can use that similar to Valentine's Day, they don't recharge. Let me find the last one I did.
So this one I made 12 (representing the twelve seasons) -
1 Candy Cane Staff - You remove a candy cane stripe and use it like a lasso, target makes a Dex save or is grappled 2 Bells of Jingling - Enemies must make a Con save or spend a round dancing to the bells 3 Enchanted Nutcracker - Summon a Nutcracker (essentially same stats as a Sprite, but the HP was something like 50 HP) 4 Enchanted Snowglobe - Shake the snowglobe and the ground around you shakes, enemies must make a DEX save or fall prone (even if immune to prone) 5 Snowflake Shurikens - Darts, essentially, that do 2d4 cold damage on top of piercing damage 6 Frosty Cookies - Reduce yourself to small and grow a white beard when consumed 7 Reindeer Antlers - Summon a rideable reindeer 8 Ugly Sweater - Causes Confusion spell effect when someone gazes at you - social checks are at disadvantage when being worn 9 Quarter Staff of the Evergreen - You always smell good and you gain advantage at tracking anything 10 Nikalos’ Spectacles - See through any illusion (magical or racial) 11 Anglic Wings of Wonder - Sprout magical wings that allow flight 12 Snowball Terrain Changer - Causes snow to fall creating difficult terrain except for yourself and 5 others
An odd challenge in coming up with mine was recognizing the nature of holidays and what they serve, and then having to figure out what he most enduring holidays are from Now, and projecting them forward, then coloring the through the history of the world itself.
(I mean, technically, Wyrlde is a colony of Earth. But even the earliest moment for it is as far from us now as we are from the anglo saxon conquest of 1066 -- and holidays change over time a lot. Add in all the other weird stuff like actual Gods, magic, and reduction of resources and capability, and things are iffy.)
I have about a dozen other holidays (of which only four are actual Holy Days), but they don't have a strong tie to "today". There's a children's day, a harvest fetival, a spring festival, assorted other odds and ends.
For an open world, a good calendar and a strong se tof holidays becomes important because it impacts the opportunities that appear -- and I have unnamed holidays that are more localized for all the major regions.
The big and key thing is that the holidays mentioned above are celebrated by the bad guys as well -- the same holiday is held by Goblins and bugbears and kobolds and imps. Celebrated the same way. THey link back to the common origin of all the peoples...

Speaking of TGD stuff -- Antelle, Paria, and Urisha are all TGD (Trans and Gender Diverse) powers, and the once second most popular as someone called Alfey, who was "killed" during the wars ages ago.
The spirits of the world are inherently genderfluid, adopting a form to meet the objectives, and the Meka literally adapt their forms to be the least threatening appearance based on who finds them. Gender Variance takes up space in my games, lol.

That’s pretty cool! Reminds me of when I learned a bit about psychology a few years back. I dunno why, my brain is just different. I would love to be in one of your campaigns, all the stuff you post here about DMing and worldbuilding looks amazing! Now my worldbuilding and stuff looks tiny in comparison lol.
edit: I’m having trouble making my thoughts here seem coherent so… yeah.

First, your words have always been clear. So don't worry about that.
Second, AEDorsay, myself, and several others (I know she's roughly my age!) have been at this "worldbuilding" stuff for a very, very, very long time.
My current world is one of my original worlds - that over the years, I have continued to adapt and change and make what it is now. So like you, when I started, everything was very small compared to the expansive world I have now for my own game. It's always great to start small and begin building outward as needed. So don't worry if your world feels small in comparison now. As you continue to DM, the world will continue to grow as you continue to grow creatively.
For reference: I am currently 58, turning 59 in late January. I am from the very first of the Gen X folks in the US (other nations have slightly different periods for GenX designation).
I built my first world (map, ornate genealogies, kingdoms, and such) in 1975 -- four years before I found out that D&D existed, lol. I was 10.
This version of Wyrlde is the 13th iteration -- the 13th version of it -- and it pulls things from every previous version into it, even though it is otherwise a "new setting".
