Purchase the starter set Lost Mines of Phandalver (either on here or the box set off Amazon, or your neighborhood gaming store, or even both like I did, I like to have the hard copy to hold and stuff) and it will help you a lot in getting started as a DM/GM. Me and my group loved the adventure and I had a great time reading, prepping and running it.
No , but I used them as a guideline for the characters for your group makes and you could possibly use some of their back stories to enhance your characters role play and possibly bring them in to the adventure more.
I do not know where should I place this and since I found this thread, so I will just place it here.
I am a very very VERY new and fresh (beginner) of DnD. I have been curious and interested, as well as wanted, to try playing this game. I have heard about this game since the 90s and I have never been able to try to play this game (no one here in my direct vicinity had any clue about DnD before). Now I am 33 and I really wanted to try playing this game. I have read some manuals provided by DnDBeyond and read some articles giving me some idea how to play it, still I am still in the darkness about the whole game.
I hope that other players would have the biggest patience of and for helping and guiding me to play this game and not ruin the experience forever XD
Anyways, I am so happy to find DndBeyond, I can finally start venturing this very intriguing game (for me).

I am a complete starter / beginner of this game. Yes, I am old yet, I really wanted to try to play this game.

I'd probably advise taking a look at the basic rules of D&D, it's free so you don't need to pay anything and it should get you started on some of the rules of D&D. Here's a link to it.

I am a 39-year old medical biller who has been playing for +20 years. Started with 2nd edition through my sweety who has been an amazing DM for years and still is. Been playing 3.5e for most of that, and within the past (almost) 2 years, we moved to 5e (though our "legacy characters" are still in 3.5).
Recently started running a 3.5 campaign for some other friends who wanted to learn. Regardless of edition, we always used the Mystara world from 2e; we could never part with that place, it's like a 2nd home!
My main issue with converting legacy characters over to 5e is the lack of identical options. Been digging around for a 5e version of the SpellSword prestige class; found a homebrew for Swordmage that comes pretty close, but i'll have to run it by my DM first. Has anyone else had similar issues?
I’m a 52 year old fella who lives in the middle of West Virginia & am constantly chasing deer out of my garden. I am an empty nest Father to two amazing daughters & husband to an amazing lady who helps make sure that folks who need Cancer treatments receive the help they need no matter their income or insurance. I am a retired personal combat instructor, and now make my living making art, jewelry, and leatherwork.
In regards to D&D I’ve been playing the game (and many other RPGS) since 1978. I’ve played every edition and while I have a fondness for old school AD&D, I must admit I think 5th edition fits my play style the best. I am typically the DM in games and have played that role more than any other since the mid 80s.
About a month ago my best friend of 30+ years passed away, and with everything else going on right now I was really feeling the isolation which prompted me to make an account here and join in on the conversations and such happening here at DDB. It has been really nice.
Hope to have some great conversations and see what other folks are doing with their games.
Wish y’all the best and hope your dice roll well!!
Welcome and sorry for the loss of your friend. I am 63 and like you I have been playing since 1978. I lost a couple of my long time friends in the last couple of years. Not a good feeling. My son and his wife and their 2 babies live with me and that helps. I DM for them and their friends and that makes my day.
Live well and Prosper and may your dice roll in your favor!
I am a 40-year-old woman who loves to play D&D. I have lots of experience and I am part of many discord servers. I have been experiencing the guild like for a while and loving it but at one point all the servers are getting fewer and fewer activities. I know that it's hard to find games during the week but I can not work anymore so I am interested in finding people who would game during the afternoons or weeknights. For the moment I am not available Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
I can play all species, classes, and whatever the DM needs. I do not mind being the only Girl IRL, I'm used to playing with boys, and usually, I fit in perfectly. :P
I love playing, having fun, laughing, and just take the game for a game and nothing else.
Game: D&D 5e or whatever Group preferred: Online, in person Experience: DM'd and played a lot a long time ago; have played some in the last year. Want to play more regularly with the same people. Location/Timezone: SW Michigan / EST Availability: Can play in the evening once per week and once once on the weekend, Fri night, Sat / Sun Preferred role: Player; I generally play non-spell casters. Game style: Casual to serious, with a good balance between role play and action. Love a good story! Not onerously technical.
I only recently played Call of Cthulhu a few months back with a friend, and I had fun. I'm still pretty new to tabletop gaming, especially to online tabletop.
I'm currently in college but would like to have the occasional short campaign in my free time. I'm in the Pacific Time Zone, and available on weekdays (when I'm not in classes or focusing on homework) I have a few days off before the new term starts and would like to get a game in and learn the ropes of the game and this site.
Some of my favorite shows: Bleach, RWBY, Hunter X Hunter
So yes, I like anime and magical abilities.
I'm open to playing whatever is out there but may need a little time to read up on it, especially if there's a lot of complicated rulings. I look forward to exploring the world of tabletop gaming.
I don’t wanna say too much about myself but I started playing D&D in middle school and DMing my first year of college. I also play Onyx Path games and I also like a few other game lines (Torg Eternity for example).
Penelope is not my real name. It means “the weaver” in Greek (which works for an arcane caster) and “white shoulder” in Gaelic (which sounds kinda like the heroine in a romance novel). I borrowed the name from my friend and I hope I’m living up to her legacy.
I just registered a few moments ago, my name is Carson, I'm 28 years old from Alabama and I've been a gamer since childhood and I've always wanted to play D&D but apparently nobody I knew in RL played it *slams head on table* until now
My character is an wood elven dwarf bard named Lialee, I'm still putting my character together so she's not ready for any campaigns yet XD
As some of you may have guessed, Thauraeln isn't my real name. If you didn't guess that, please re-read my username.
My dad introduced me to D&D a few years back, he had only played 1e back when it first came out so I quickly outpaced him and started DMing myself. Now I DM for some of my IRL friends, and I'm pretty active here on the forums.
I love worldbuilding and roleplaying, and my pastimes consist of a) reading, b) reading, and c) composing music. My favorite book series are Renegades, Five Kingdoms, Arc of a Scythe, Inheritance Cycle, and Keeper of the Lost Cities. When I can't be found doing any of those things, I'm probably doing D&D (which probably means that I'm doing D&D for about 30% of any given day... hmm, I might need to read a bit more).

Do I have to use the pregenerated characters if I ever play that adventure?
Hello! I am just a relatively new D&D player, who also likes SimplePlanes and War Thunder.
My characters are:
No , but I used them as a guideline for the characters for your group makes and you could possibly use some of their back stories to enhance your characters role play and possibly bring them in to the adventure more.
Nope, your not the oldest I am 63, so I gotcha beat and been playing since 79 also.
Blaine
Cool, Do you publish the stories? If so where could I check them out?
Blaine
Thanks. I got it so going to take a look at it over the next day or so. Looking forward to it!
I will move this to the front page
