>Literal dracolich (2024 version, which XP wise is only a little bit over the hard threshold for them)
>They do some damage to it, its turn rolls around and it does necrotic breath
>Party uses inspiration to clutch the save, but one character fails and would die so another tries to save both of them and sacrifices himself in the process
>spare the dying. Gee, if only there was some diamond worth over 300 gold conveniently nearby to cast revivify
>To quote the Dracolich statblock: "Soul Gem. The dracolich has a magical gem. If the dracolich is destroyed while the gem is on the same plane of existence as it, the dracolich gains a new body in 1d20 days, regaining all its Hit Points and appearing within 5 feet of the gem.
The gem is a Tiny object that has AC 20; HP 50; and Immunity to Necrotic, Poison, and Psychic damage. The gem regains all its Hit Points at the end of every turn, but it turns to dust if reduced to 0 Hit Points. If the gem is destroyed, the dracolich can create a new one by completing an 8-hour ritual using a gem worth 1,000+ GP and by expending 5,000 GP, which the ritual consumes."
>Since it's not a main villain no need to go on a whole quest to find the gem, so I had had it floating around it in its ribcage
>They violently rip it out and since Rule of Cool I just let it be a diamond
>Use the diamond to revive him, players then proceed to pwn the Dracolich and session ends with a level up
They're now heading to the necromancer's castle to wrap up the arc. Very fun session :)
