So basically, one of my siblings is graduating from school soon. So today, we were going to a ceremony that was supposed to give farewells to the students graduating from that school. I myself am an atheist, and I doubt I was the only non-Christian there, so it felt kinda awkward to just sit there listening to them talk about a religion when you aren't part of that religion. They even said stuff about how if you weren't Christian, they're hoping you join them. Like, I came to show support for my sibling, not for people to attempt to convert me.

Church and school are better off separate imo

 Well that just seems kinda dumb. That was supposed to be a graduation ceremony, not a sermon. I'm atheist too, so if I had been there and they said "We hope you join us", I woulda been like, "I'm sorry, WHAT?"

 I'm pissed. I personally am actually Christian, but I firmly believe that school and religion should always be separate. school is where you learn facts. religion is an opinion. they shouldn't have to cross paths

Was it a Christian school? Or the only connection was just the ceremony being held at a church?

Just wondering since IIRC even my cousins' graduations from Christian high schools still had a lot of the focus on the, you know, graduation.

 Technically, it wasn't the actual graduation, just a pre-ceremony. The actual graduation is gonna be in a few days, and luckily it's not gonna be held at the same place. But still.

Never heard of a pre-ceremony for graduation. Always seen it as a one-and-done thing at the actual graduation.

Okay that's weird. They need to be educated on the definition of "graduation" it seems.

Thing is, though, they didn't even give out awards either, that was at a previous ceremony. Unless the whole religion thing was planned from the start, it was only for farewells, and they barely even talked about that. 

I don't really know what the point of the whole thing was now.

Was there a reception afterwards? Wondering if that might've been intended as the "get together to say your farewells" time?

Oh, yeah, there was, actually. But I don't get why they wouldn't do that at the actual graduation.
