Harvest hunters are ravenous collectors, keepers of Flesh Runes and the Sigils they consist of. They use these runes to alter their bodies and weapons, shifting the forms of both their implements of destruction and the battlefield itself.

Hello! I am a perfectly sane gibberer. Hi! :D
Locations are dead, the Temple of Potassium has fallen but its ideals live on
Hey Nothic, I'm gonna be running the Nothic encounter in LMoP real soon, and I figured you'd be a good person to ask. Tips for rp'ing them?
Ooooh, interesting.
First off, check out this article. The author has examined tactics on most 5e monsters, and it’s a really useful resource to have. The reason I liked nothics so much in the first place really goes back to this article.
The nothic in LMoP uses telepathy, which combined with its abilities means it’s far more likely to be a social encounter than a combat one. The beauty of the nothic is how it gets under your PCs’ skin. It use its Weird Insight to collect information, and then be creepy.
The “creep factor” of the nothic is the fact that it used to be human, and it still retains some human-like traits. But now, the nothic’s mind is shattered. Roleplay it the same way you’d roleplay Gollum — human-like, but definitely not human. Everything the nothic says is dark and twisted, with a hint of truth — sort of like dream logic.
The article says it better than I can, honestly. Check it out.
Here's an idea: what if the Harvest Hunters' flesh runes were alive? You know, as a side effect of being stolen.
They always have their own, typically simple agendas: eat, hoard, kill, love, protect, etc.
Now, this doesn't mean they can't be intelligent, charismatic, or wise, it's just that they are more interested in simple pleasures or ideas than big-picture details. A protection flesh rune wants you to defend people, so it might ask you to build a wall, but it most likely won't ask you to become king and pass laws to protect people better.

I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).

I like the idea that the runes focus on simple basic ideas much more than the big picture. Makes them more interesting to interact with and less like a “typical” NPC. I think it’s a great concept Baalz.

We were exploring a beach so missed this. I'll read the article. I'm picturing it being insane just a bit, and throwing in some maniacal laughter here and there.

I don't see anything too weird in it-- at least, there's definitely weirder things I've seen in DnD, homebrew or not (just look at the gibbering mouther)
