I think it’s probably just because it’s easier to keep track of if it only has one main attack for its multiattack. Also it has a pretty fun spell list.
at will, charm monster (5th level) detect magic and 4th level dissonant whispers.
2day is an 8th level CloudKill and Geas.
then, 1day is modify memory and polymorph. DC 21.
I guess I'm also someone that likes thinking, "Okay got two attacks. Where shall the less damaging go and where shall the bigger one go?"
