Everyone but Verrynia: Just past midnight. Your Nineteenth day on the sea. For some of you this might be one of the most nauseating experiences of your life, for others it is a routine experience. It isn't hard to find a quiet corner on this ship. The Shimmercairns might be an exciting land of opportunities for some, but most people are content with staying back on the continent where it's relatively safe. For this reason most of the people on the ship are members of its crew. As a matter of fact everyone but you are crew members. The crew has left you alone, only fetching you from wherever you may have hung out or slept right as food was served. Thats it. The crew, lead by captain Bartholomew Tallmast (a pale and surprisingly muscular woodelf) and you. Oh, and the cormorants. Most of you have noticed the black bodied aquatic birds circling the main mast of the ship taking occasional breaks at the boom.
The occasional bird call and sloshing of waves against the bow of the ship are broken by shouting at the crows-nest. "About bloody time! Oy, cap! Land ho!" Half an hour later you can spot the flickering lights of torches and lanterns ahead. The craggy island looms like a dark shadow against the starlit sky behind it. The lights of the port city are only a small dot compared to the massive black shape that is the mountain that makes up a large part of the island. The crew starts rushing to and fro, preparing the ship for docking. You're instructed to pick up whatever luggage you have and get ready to walk ashore.
As you reach the pier, dock and walk down the gangplank onto the creaky wood you quickly realise that crew does not follow. The second the last of you set foot on the pier the gangplank is raised and the ship starts making its way to the main docks, closer to the city proper.
Verrynia It has been about an hour since your "captors" released you and you ended up here. They've instructed you to wait until the next ship comes before heading in to town. "It's better to wait and arrive with the rest of the fortune hunters. Less suspicious that way", was the last thing said to you before they basically tossed you off the ship onto a pier. The pier you've been waiting on for the past hour is wide and getting to town is easier said than done even if you didn't want to wait. 30 or so feet up the pier, closer to land there is a tall, thick wooden wall with barbed wire on top and small gate in the middle so you figured that you might as well wait. Luckily for you, your newfound friends weren't lying, 'cause lo and behold! A ship comes sailing and drops off four passengers before it sails towards the town. Just like the others.
EVERYONE: A growly voice shouts at you. "Ahoy there, welcome to New Oyjan mates. I'z Khrook Jaws n' will be axin sum questions, alright? Just wants to know why yur 'ere n' all that. Business or pleasure? State or private? Whaz your craft? You ansuz me questions three n' i'll let ya pass." A goliath. He gives you a toothy smile and you all notice his.. charming set of teeth. Each tooth is filed down to a sharp point and like the keys of a piano every other tooth is either a ivory white perfectly polished piece of tooth or a half-rotten excuse for a chewing implement. Behind him and the six guards that are accompanying him by the pier barricade, and a couple hundred feet behind that, the city.
The goliath pulls out a thick, leather wrapped book and finds an empty page in about the middle of the book. "So, what're ya waitin' for, who's first?" He pulls out a feathered pen and dips it in a small inkwell attached to his front pocket.
(WELCOME TO THE SHIMMERCAIRNS! Feel free to introduce/describe your characters and start roleplaying.)
Khurah pulls back her fur-lined hood as she steps onto the pier. Thank Soleivas she's finally off that boat. The nausea passed after the third day, or so, but who knew you could feel so confined in the middle of an ocean? Her olive green skin, short tusks, and sharp pointed ears mark her instantly as a half orc. She wears a woodsman's garb, though, and a small wooden shield is slung behind her back. Her stout staff clunks heavily upon the timbers as she walks.
The stars overhead are burning. She breathes in the cold, salt air gratefully as she stares up at them. Boats and rocks notwithstanding, she made the right decision coming here; it really did feel as though she would be swallowed up by that endless sky.
She glances at the goliath as he interrupts her reverie, then returns her gaze skyward. "Khurah. I have no craft to serve others. I will live away from," she waves dismissively at the nearby homes and businesses. "...all this. I was led to believe there are wild spaces beyond this island?"
Khrook lifts his pen and puts it down on the page, but doesn't write anything. "There's wild places ON this island, lady. You lookin' to get yourself a nice patch o' land n' build the dream house, huh?." He thumbs through the previous pages and gets back to the empty one. "Ya ain't the first. So you're not 'ere on business? And it's private?.. And you're not plannin' on contributin' to the fine little society we's havin' 'ere?" He puts the pen back on the page and writes down something.

The tiefling steps forward next, clutching her long coat closed. Smiling slightly, she states, "I am Verrynia, a sailor by trade. I'm looking for work on a ship in these parts, but I expect it will take some time doing odd jobs on shore before I find a good crew." Her brief introduction finished, she moves to stand out of sight behind the goliaths.
Appearance:
Verrynia is a pale red tiefling with dull orange eyes; shoulder-length, black hair in a low ponytail; and two small, deep red horns poking out the side of her cap. Her coat is simple and worn, but clearly well made, as are her boots. The last off the boat is a big, copper-scaled dragonborn. He's still laughing from the final joke he told the sailors as he was saying his good-byes. Dressed in somewhat shabby chain mail with a shield and war pick on his back, he saunters down the gang plank. Stepping onto the dock, he turns to say something else to the crew, but stops short as the plank is hurriedly retracted. He watches with surprise as the ship starts to move away. Finally, he shrugs and walks over to stand in line with the others. As he waits, he gazes around with interest and delight. "New Oyjan," he says to himself, though loudly enough for everyone around to hear and murdering the pronunciation. He greets passerby with a friendly, "Hi," or "Hello," as he waits, clearly not impatient.
Once it's his turn to talk to the goliath, the dragonborn steps forward, his steps strangely silent, and asks Khrook his name. "Well, Cook," he replies brazenly, "my name's Xarprax Skaarzborroosh — spelled just like it sounds, of course — and I'm a bounty hunter. I've tracked the illusive Phaendar Yinqen here to the island, where I will track him down and take him out. Using my amazing thinking, super-good eye, and best thinking, it should only be a matter of days before I find him." He leans forward, lowers his voice, and shields his mouth with the back of his hand. "But first, I need to find a job. I kinda got broke buying my ship ticket."
Khrook nods to Khurah and writes something down before looking at Krumdak with a "Sorry that I can't help you" look. "I'dunno. You could always check with the people at the mouse place. Or there's the Weaslery, those people hear all kinds of rumours." He seems to take note of what Krumdak says about manual labour, because he at least writes something down.
"Expe..ditionary work? Sure. We send off adventurers and explorers from time to time, when they get too much to handle.", he shrugs and once again writes something down in his book.
When Xarprax comes sauntering he can't help but smiling a little. "I'll write copper dragon man and tell the boss your name instead." He leans in with the same shields his mouth the same way that Xarprax did. "I can't spell that well." He leans back again. "I've never heard of a Phaendar. Check with the same places I told robesy here" he gestures towards Krumdak, "or the Scalecloaks, but be prepared to pay them for the info. They're greedy."
When everyone has given the necessary info he gestures back to the guards for them to open the gate. "They's good boys." He slams his book shut and puts it under his arm. "You're the last bunch o' confirmed arrivals today, so I'm off to drink at the Catnip. You guys should find a place to sleep though. The streets ain't that safe for camping." He starts walking down the pier, two guards following him, while the remaining four stay by you and the gate.

Khurah turns her head to the settlement, to the wild area, and then to the others she traveled here with. Frowning slightly, she rummages in her pack and pulls out a handful of glittering polished stones. She considers for a moment, then tosses them in the dirt (Augury).
Krumdak turns to Khurah noticing the stones and says, "that`s some nice stones you got there". Krumdak then takes out his own pouch and turns to Khurah saying, " these are mine, they`re nothing special, but fine nonetheless", showing his own stones in all different shapes and sizes. He then points at his necklace, also a stone, "this I got from Yelda Evenwood, a very fine woman, do you know her?"
Khurah shakes her head with a smile. "I know maybe ten people, Krumdak, present company included." She pats his shoulder (or his elbow? He's pretty tall even for the 6ft druid).
She addresses Xarprax. "Hey, dragon- what say we get a drink? With any luck, I won't see this many people in one place for the next year or so and I aim to celebrate."
