In my campaign, the race i'm playing as can't equip armor or any clothing. My DM is arguing that Backpacks count as armor, and that i can't have an inventory. What do you guys think?
Unless your race doesn't have a solid shape it doesn't make sense that you couldn't have a backpack or clothing. And a backpack isn't clothing or armor, it's just gear.

“It is a better world. A place where we are responsible for our actions, where we can be kind to one another because we want to and because it is the right thing to do instead of being frightened into behaving by the threat of divine punishment.” ― Oramis, Eldest by Christopher Paolini.
Can you make a deal? The DM lets you have the backpack and you promise not to count it toward your AC?

I think the real question here is what the heck kind of race are you playing? There are no official races unable to wear clothes - so you are already well into homebrew territory. We can't comment on the rules involved in such a situation, and it isn't helpful to come to us on this forum to try and win an argument with your DM.
You need to go back to the DM, discuss this race, clarify what equipment you can use or hold, decide whether the racial bonuses are worth the cost of never carrying anything except in your hands, then perhaps ask to choose a new race if you find the game unenjoyable in its current form - or come to some other compromise.

Your DM needs a talking to. How do they justify classifying a backpack as armor when it has zero impact on your Armor Class? Sorry, but that's just.... dumb.

In my opinion, that is kind of extreme. Backpacks counts neither as armour nor clothing.

I think a backpack would be an accessory like a belt, tie, hat, etc...
Armor is only the items mentioned in the armor section in the PHB.
For example, a barbarian could wear 100 backpacks and still not be considered armored for the purposes of getting their Constitution modifier to AC.

Backpacks counts neither as armour nor clothing. Backpack would be like a belt, tie, hat, etc. And armor is like sword, weapons'.
