Description
Orcs are burly raiders with prominent lower canines that resemble tusks. They gather in tribes that satisfy their bloodlust by slaying any humanoids that stand against them.
I see D&D Orcs as the equivalent of Tolkien's Uruk-hai, with Tolkins Moria orcs being closer to D&D goblins. In fact in the Hobbit the orcs found in the mountains were called goblins so there is some basis for this assumption.
The term is thrown around in the Two Towers as well, (for the Orcs that followed them from Moria).
You have to buy it in Volo's Guide to Monsters.
I think DnD Beyond only allows you to take Half-orc for free and you have to buy "Orc" as a playable race. Hope that helps! :)
Well I ran a little test and my level 7 character can take on 20 orcs and it's a fair fight. Living in the King's Forest is fun.
you like jazz?
Maybe I do...
My party will have a session a few months from now that I got to plan with my DMs (yes, I have multiple) where one of our comedic relief character's get's kidnapped by an male orc while under a female disguise and the orc wants to marry him. We named him Earl the Evil. Harles/Harley's boyfriend in the campaign, Mordai, get's very heated. They end up beheading my character and his god, a nature deity, takes pity and brings him back as a simple spirit. He can't touch anything but if he can be healed by a cleric or paladin within a month then he'll come all the way back to life. But we're drawing a scene of this and it's really funny, just thought I'd share. If anyone wants to see the picture, just reply and if I see the reply I'll post the picture. "Heehoo wifey" is his catchphrase.
I think hostile target is defined as any target they're attacking. They can use the extra movement to charge the players, to run down a poor gnome farmer w/ a pumpkin whose trying to escape, or kick a puppy, but not to heal an ally or grab the McGuffin from across the room.
Orcs are honestly really cool.
They really are.
They’re just big, strong, and fast, without having any complicated gimmicks.
You can really see the appeal of Orc culture as well. No stress, just war.
Just let out all your inner anger, yes break that elf's head open. Don't you feel relieved of all your internal stress? Now breathe.
I can feel the tension melting away.
omg
How do we know if they can hit you or not? Do we have to roll dice? Or if you are in there hit range do they directly hit you?
There are rules in the “Mass Combat” section of the DMG for determining hits without throwing dice, but most of the time we use an Attack Roll.
Monsters make Attack Rolls like player characters do; roll a d20 and add the “to hit” modifier listed in the attack (+5 in the case of the orc’s Battle Axe), it hits if it’s greater than or equal to the target’s Armor Class.
Well said. I like the free attack after moving. Or maybe if they move at least 10' (a charge run) before contacting their target, they get bonus action attack.
You see the multiple slouched but tall humanoid figures have skin of a grey lust for blood, piggish faces that have a low hanging jaw. They wear frivolously put together leather, and tusks that shoot out of their faces. They growl in a deep voice, as they approach.
