Bizarre creatures with aberrant agendas inhabit the Underdark. Flumphs number among the few that are helpful to strangers. These tentacled, telepathic creatures jet through the air in short bursts, venting gases with a sound that gives them their name. Rather than speaking, flumphs communicate telepathically and by changing color to reflect their moods. Flumphs dwell in psychically charged…

A shrill screech pierces the air as a large, misshapen bat swoops overhead. Its outstretched wings resemble elongated human arms, with flesh pulled taut to its deformed body. Rows of hooked fangs fill its maw below bulging, red eyes and a sniveling snout. Once a common sight, bats in Drakkenheim have swelled in both number and form. Many are now as large as dogs with wingspans stretching almost…

Vampires exist. In modern times, they call themselves Kindred. They have survived in secret since biblical times, drinking blood to maintain their existence and sate the eternal hunger of the Beast that rages within. Boneflayers are cruel, vulture-like creatures that originated from a broken fey pact. The creatures aren’t content to wait for something to die and instead make their own carrion to gorge upon—they delight in snatching prey in their talons, carrying it into the air, and dropping it to its death. Boneflayers earn their name by using their sizeable, filth-riddled beaks to cleave flesh from bone and…

Vampires of the Court of the Night are patient predators, who strike when the situation lies in their favor. As the name implies, they are better suited to battles at night, or in the dark. They will seldom be foolish enough to fight outside during the day. Vampires are smart and have lived for centuries by not taking unneeded risks in battle. If they are discovered, and being hunted, they will…

Dream eaters are horrors that feed on the dreams, sense of identity, and—some say—the very souls of other creatures. Dream eaters have the bodies and wings of great owls, while their beaks are filled with blunt, humanlike teeth and hide long snaking tongues. Their feathers are drab colors on the exterior, but their wings display a dazzling cascade of rainbow hues on the undersides when unfurled.…

Alpengrendel are hulking creatures covered in bluish white fur, with great tusks and horns. Two Personalities Are Better than One Barbarians are defined by their rage, channeling it to unleash brief but potent destruction. Few are brave or unwise enough to study esoteric psychological techniques that split their rage from the rest of their psyche, dividing their identity into two parts: ego and id. When their ego is in control, the Fractured—as these Barbarians are known—possess…

Frost wyrms are Undead dragons created from the skeletal remains of adult dragons of the blue dragonflight. The first Lich King, Ner’zhul, animated the remains of long-dead dragons who fell during the War of the Ancients, and Arthas continued that practice when he raised Sindragosa to become the frost queen.
