The Ethereal Plane is a misty, fogbound dimension. Its “shores,” called the Border Ethereal, overlap the Material Plane, the Feywild, the Shadowfell, and the Inner Planes, and every location on those planes has a corresponding location on the Ethereal Plane. Visibility in the Border Ethereal is usually limited to 60 feet. The plane’s depths comprise a region of swirling mist and fog called the…

Some magic functions differently in the Domains of Dread. Characters who receive spells from otherworldly forces or patrons do so as normal, but the magic noted here functions in distinct ways: Banishment. Aberrations, Celestials, Elementals, Fey, or Fiends aren’t transported to different planes after the Banishment spell ends. Rather, they appear in a random different domain. Escape. No spell…

The Ethereal Plane exists behind the veil of reality. It’s thought of as a river that encircles the Material Plane and is stepped through to reach all other planes of existence. It overlaps the mortal realm but cannot be perceived without the use of magic. There are no natural portals that exist to reach it, though the Ethereal Plane is commonly used by powerful mages to teleport or move unseen.…

A meld is formed from the faded souls of mortals—husks whose memories have been consumed by Dolurrh. These husks are typically harmless, but sometimes an aggressive nucleus gathers other husks, forming a deadly gestalt. In essence, a meld is a fusion of half-formed ghosts; it has an amorphous shape, with vague faces and limbs projecting from the mass, then being consumed once more. It makes no…

The Astral and Ethereal Planes are discussed in chapter 6 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide. The githyanki’s vast ships can be found in the Astral Plane, as discussed in the section on Kythri. It’s possible that adventurers on either of these transitive planes may discover portals that lead back to the Material Plane or to twelve of Eberron’s other planes; however, Dal Quor hasn’t been accessible…

Ghosts arise when living creatures die in a state of extreme emotion or having left an important task undone. These incorporeal spirits haunt locations that are meaningful to them, lingering until their business is complete or they’re put to rest. Ghosts typically appear as semitransparent versions of the creatures they were in life, though some bear evidence of the wounds that killed them or…

Traveling through the Deep Ethereal is unlike physical travel. Distance is meaningless, so although travelers feel as if they can move by a simple act of will, it’s impossible to measure speed and hard to track the passage of time. A trip through the Deep Ethereal takes 1d10 × 10 hours from one curtain to another, regardless of the origin and destination. In combat, creatures move at their normal…
